Labor Day Weekend

The only thing I love more than a good relaxing weekend is a good relaxing weekend of good eats!

I actually have some eats from the week mixed in because good food is good food no matter when you eat it. Also, I think my brain is tired so forgive me if I say some off the wall things in this post πŸ™‚

On Tuesday I had this simple breakfast of egg frittata from Trader Joes, a waffle and some blackberries. The egg frittata has been compared to the Starbuck’s sous vide egg bites, but this was not my favorite on it’s own. I did put it in a tortilla later in the week with some cheese and enjoyed it MUCH more that way.

20190827_084231

For dinner that night we had some leftover ground beef so hubby whipped up some burgers and we are still on the carrot fries kick!

20190827_184341

Fast forward to Thursday night our Gobble box arrived. Since we both had work and hubs actually had to work late we made a dish from the box on Friday night: Souvlaki marinated salmon…I’ll do a whole post about this later on this week!

IMG-20190901-WA0001

Saturday morning included workouts and grocery shopping! I was starving and decided to pick up a turkey pesto sandwich from Sprout’s. Sometimes a sandwich and some potato chips just hits the spot and it deffo did…noms! I was only able to eat half the sammie and half the chips before I was full.

20190831_114837

We made an early dinner (linner, really) of the baked eggs in channa masala from Gobble before hubby had to head out to a work thing. I ended up hanging out and binging on all the reality TV on Hulu.

20190831_162944

It was a little past 10:30pm when he was heading home and I was feeling the hungers again and Blaze sounded like a great idea so we picked me up a simple pie. I ate the whole things minus 2 slices. The hubs ate one of those….

20190831_225522

I ate the last slice with some tomatoes the next day (banana for dessert)!

Sunday was our first full day off together so we made the most of it and headed to Santa Monica. I really wanted Sidecar Doughnuts and went for their yeast glazed doughnut. They are just so good! You can’t go wrong with this place.

20190901_144239

We were both pretty tired as we walked around so we decided to grab a snack. I’m normally not an energy drink person, but I just felt like the day called for it. I saw this Alani Nu in Hawaiian shaved ice and felt like it sounded so incredible. The hubs found some gummies.

20190901_152710

The energy drink was DELISH! LOVED IT! The gummies were not great, BUT hubby totally enjoyed them. He loved them so much he bought a few more the next day!

We picked up a few baked goods and headed home to make some burgers (we have a serious problem with burgers).

20190901_192127

Burgers-delicious! Sadly dessert did not go as well…we had stopped by Milk Bar and Alcove. The cookie and birthday cake truffles from Milk Bar were good, but for whatever reason the cakes from Alcove were not.

20190901_193451

Alcove has been our go to cake spot and we were a bit bummed, but what is a girl to do?

The next day we did some more grocery shopping for the week and made our last Gobble dinner. It was a honey harissa shrimp dish!

20190902_181937

We finished up any left over dessert and called it a weekend!

How was your LDW? Let me know in the comments what you guys did!

Life After NY

We woke up dark and early to catch a Lyft to JFK. Speaking of JFK, what a great airport! I don’t know if it was the time or day of the week that we were there or what, but it was so mellow and there was barely a line-very unLAX.

We grabbed some breakfast and headed to our gate. We could only find Dunkin’ Donuts so I got a egg white veggie sandwich and hash browns and hubs got an everything bagel and cream cheese. I don’t think he was quite ready to let go πŸ˜€ We also got a strawberry glazed donut with sprinkles to share!

We hopped on the plane and had a really lovely 5 hour trip back to LA. I really enjoyed the snack box they gave us that had Chobani vanilla yogurt, granola, apple slices and this flat blueberry muffin thing. I loved that muffin and wish I could figure out where they sold it!

We arrived in LA at 10:50am (nothing like gaining a few hours back) and had all the intentions of going to the beach, but we were exhausted! We instead went to see if we could get movie tickets to Avengers: Endgame and get Chick-fil-a to eat at the park.

We did both and were very pleased with ourselves. After we arrived at home we unpacked, threw in laundry, showered and who knows what else before heading out to Endgame.

It was a 3 hour movie and holy cow was it the movie of all movies! If you’re an Avengers fan…you’ve probably already seen it!

We went home and grabbed some TBell for babes and In n’ Out for me. We had also planned it out and grabbed cake and a cookie from Susie Cakes!

Friday morning we woke up and headed out to our first gym session since Philly. It felt good to be in the gym! I was so hungry after this session and we came up with a breakfast plan.

Yogurt with granola and honey plus a shared PB and banana sandwich!

20190426_114720

We had reserved tickets for The Broad for when we got back from our trip and so we showered up and headed out. The Broad was incredibly cool and saw some really interesting pieces.

20190426_143319

I guess neither of us were ready to let go of NY quite yet because we headed to Langer’s for pastrami sandwiches. We shared a sandwich which was great because each half could have been one sandwich.

20190426_15285920190426_153727

This was a really great sandwich! It was meaty and vinegary from the kraut and mustard…all the good things!

Having not been to Century City in a minute we headed over to check out some stores and grab a little sweet treat from Shake Shack- their strawberry shake.

20190426_173538

After wandering around and finding a skirt we headed off to a free comedy night at a pizza shop we had also been wanting to check out #notreadytoletgoofNY

20190426_195139

We shared a pie and enjoyed some comedy! Can you tell how much we really enjoy comedy?

We picked up some cake on the way home, but by the time we got home we were too exhausted to even bother. Sleep really took the cake πŸ˜‰

Saturday morning was for all the tidying up and touch ups. Since we’re moving, we’re going to be putting our house on sale so we had some decluttering to do before pictures. We spend most of the morning doing this, but before that we had to gather supplies and give ourselves some fuel.

That fuel came in the form of Pascal Patisserie. We got the breakfast burrito (my fave) and the carne asada sandwich (B’s fave). When we got home we had some cake! We finished up our tasks and cleaned up for yet another comedy show…we have a problem…

20190427_16145020190427_161456

20190427_163412

We were planning on going out for dinner, but neither of us were feeling like it so we picked up some Panang curry from Jasmine Thai. We had our second piece of cake after and called it a night!

Sunday was our last vacay day and we made the most of it by finishing up our stuff and going grocery shopping πŸ˜€ We also skipped the gym this morning and got breakfast from Pascal. We got a bagel (there’s that NY thing popping up again) and an omelet sandwich.

We also picked up a pistachio croissant and an almond chocolate croissant. We split the pistachio one and saved the almond chocolate.

20190428_102426

We went home after this and prepped for the week and finished tidying up. I started getting hungry later into the evening and so we figured we’d better grab dinner.

Which brings me to another thing we did again was pick upΒ Thai food from another place called Box Thai.

20190428_174039

We got dumplings, chicken satay, and an order of pad kee mao. It was SO good! We will definitely be back here for more Thai!

We ate the almond chocolate croissant for dessert and chilled out for the rest of the night! That concludes our vacation-definitely had some vacation blues, but we were both ready to get back to some normal eating!

Happy Monday everybody!! Here’s to a great week!

What do you do after vacation when you get home?

Long Weekend Recap

I love a good long weekend…who doesn’t? We took full advantage of this one and did (and ate quite a bit). Go ahead and settle in for what may end up being a long post!

Friday we ended up making some dinner at home. I don’t like to waste things and we had some potato buns that needed to be used up so we got some Boar’s Head pastrami and made sammies.

20190405_194506

We also tried a couple of more slices of cake from Susie Cakes-one was raspberry and the other was red velvet. I loved the red velvet whereas the hubs preferred the denser raspberry.

Saturday, we started out with a workout, breakfast snack and then a hike. The hike ended up being somewhat of a fail because we were hoping for ocean views and super blooms, but instead got very hot and a few creeks. It’s not a complete fail because any activity is good activity πŸ™‚

We made it home for showers and naps before heading out to Magicopolis for a magic show. It was from 8 to 10pm and ended up being hilarious and magical!

20190406_191823_001

After much pondering we decided to try Cheesecake Factory out again for late night dinner.

We started with their bread (noms) and Asian lettuce wraps (double noms)

20190406_230737

For our main we got the Tuscan chicken from their skinnylicious menu

20190406_232556

And we had to get dessert so we got their chocolate truffle tower cake. This was pretty fantastic. Our server said this was the “lightest” of the 3 chocolate cakes they offer. I was happy with our choice of the chocolate tower πŸ™‚

20190406_233526

Sunday morning included a workout and a fun little brunch at Claudine Kitchen and Bakeshop. This time I got a salmon sandwich and the hubs got a create your own omelette.

20190407_12373420190407_123744

We had ordered their special cookie butter coffee cake of the day, but they ended up refunding us because they were out 😦

Luckily for us, it was a warm day and we thought açaí bowls sounded pretty tasty. We found Ubatuba Acai at a different location that you can have as many toppings as you want!

20190407_134204

They also had a lot of different bases like chia pudding, açaí, pitaya, etc. We ended up ordering one to share and got açaí, chia pudding, and pitaya. I believe we topped it with sweet and condensed milk, honey, mangoes, and two types of granola.

It was refreshing, sweet, and oh so tasty!

We ran some errands and then headed to a couple’s massage. Hubs had gotten this Groupon a while ago and we never had a chance to use it, but nothing gets us more motivated to use something other then it being close to expiring. Anybody else?Β I have never had a massage (crazy! I know) and so I was a tad nervous, but it ended up being a really great experience.

Sunday night means burgers so that is what we had for dinner and we used up all our potato buns so yay for no waste!

After Claudine’s we had walked around and found Sweet Lady Jane Bakery so we stopped in and saw so many delicious sweets. We picked up a slice of triple berry for dessert later and ended up having it after dinner!

This caps our weekend! We definitely had a lot of cake this weekend, but recently it’s been our go-to dessert πŸ™‚ Thanks for reading!

Anniversary Weekend

This post is a little late, but with work and all I didn’t have the time to get this post up until now! Better late than never? πŸ˜€

We actually started our weekend off Friday evening with Panera, CAVA, and Go Greek for dessert.

20190329_181514

After that we headed to the movies to watch Us.Β We love Jordan Peele and his movies, but LORD did this one scare the living bejeezus outta me! I think I cursed more while watching this 2 hour movie than I ever have in my whole life and TMI, but stress sweated like it was my job!

That being said I don’t enjoy scary movies in general, the previews featured before the movie were mostly all other scary movies, and I did burrow my face into hubby’s arms more times than I would like to admit!

After watching the movie we went home and watched some light hearted Netflix shows until we were sleepy.

Saturday, after running some errands we headed to Unheard LA. It’s this show where locals come and tell local stories. It’s put on by a radio station and it was pretty good-some were funny, some were tear-jerkers. The best part? It was totally free!

20190330_171141

Hubs had made reservations at Running Goose. We have run across this restaurant many times on Yelp when searching for places to eat, but brushed it aside. It’s a tapas restaurant and this being our first tapas experience we were not sure what to expect!

20190330_192652

I don’t know why we were so hesitant about trying this place out. I mean, I’ve talked repeatedly about how much I love trying a few bites of a bunch of different dishes. How did I not put two and two together and see how obsessed I would be with tapas??

I’m done lecturing myself…on to the food!

We basically ordered all their popular things starting with the corn tostada. I was surprised that it was a cold dish, but thoroughly enjoyed it. It was light, fresh, and crispy!

20190330_193509

The cod churros were described by our lovely server as “adult fish sticks” and that is exactly what they were! Crispy outside, fluffy inside. Impossible to hold up because they broke apart, but delicious!

20190330_193811

Brie which came with apricot compote, roasted garlic, roasted pepitas. It was served with these crunchy pieces of toast. It was sweet and savory and gooey!

20190330_193750

Our last savory item was the salmon belly sandwich. Even though we were warned it was spicy and it had a good chance of being spicy with the kimchi and jalapeΓ±os it was not spicy! It was really delicious and savory!

20190330_194949

Lucky for us our server stopped us here (we ordered all this at once) and told us that was probably the perfect amount of food for 2 people and we could always order more later. She was absolutely correct-it was the perfect amount of food and left enough space for dessert πŸ™‚

Coconut white chocolate bread pudding with salted caramel ice-cream caught my eye and I couldn’t unsee it so that is what we got! The crunchy outsides and soft insides, the hot and cold-it was all glorious and I need one now!

20190330_201523

After dinner, we walked around the area and explored before heading to Target for a few things and then home. We stayed up a little bit watching shows before I fell asleep and we headed to bed!

We didn’t have plans for the next day so we worked out and went to try a new brunch spot-Claudine Kitchen and Bakeshop.

I ordered the Smoked Salmon Lox on Toast Bowl (yes, I know I was confused as well) and hubby did a create your own omelette. We ordered a malted milk pancake to share because #breakfastdessert

My bowl had a LOT of lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled shallots radishes, capers, a boiled egg, and whipped lemon cream cheese. It came with a piece of multigrain toast. It was honestly so good! I was unable to finish the lox so hubs helped me out πŸ™‚

20190331_172434

I did not try the omelette, but it came with salad and hash browns and you know I tried the hash browns. I couldn’t resist! SO good!

20190331_110021

The pancake was the star of the show in my opinion, but hubs did not think it was as amazing as I did. It was a little cakier and more flavorful than a regular pancake. It drank up all the syrup and LORDY was it just the most amazing pancake I have ever had!

20190331_105909

After breakfast we walked around and spotted a Home Goods/Marshalls combo and went in. We looked around trying to find a bread proofing basket to no luck and then tried to find a dutch oven. We did find a dutch oven, but didn’t know it was a dutch oven which lead to more stores until realizing our mistake and returning to ANOTHER Home Goods to buy it.

After all the running around we were pretty beat! We chilled around for a while and by that I mean doing some meal prep for the week which included making our current favorite Green Goddess Dip.

20190331_160416

After all of that we finally got around to our new Sunday tradition. Burger night! I feel like every Sunday for a while now we’ve been making burgers and roasted veggies. I’m kinda loving it!

20190331_183033

I honestly cannot remember what we had for dessert, but we had an early night since we both had work the next day. I know it was a long post so if you made it this far all the high-fives to you!

birthday week

Hello all!

Thanks for stopping by for another post! Last week was my birthday and it was a fun week with treats and sweets and lots of love ❀️

Hubs got me some gorgeous flowers and my perfect card…I mean c’mon!

20190305_073509

After working out I made myself some breakfast #health

20190305_105240

And then I got more flowers from my in-laws. It was so sweet! I love me some flowers and it’s been so great having these beautiful pops of color everywhere in the house.

20190305_120351

I had to go in for a meeting at work my co-workers Β did a sweet potluck and got me this beautiful and delicious chocolate cake!

20190305_135535

I started my Friday off like any other with a workout, cleanup, and shower. I had a slice of bread with some PB for breakfast.

I kept things pretty chill during the day and when B got home from work we ventured out to do a few errands and grab some dinner. We decided on Poquito Mas-he got a burrito and I got tacos.

We also had some cookies for dessert…more to come on this later πŸ˜‰

20190308_081146

Saturday morning was met with a workout and Chick-fil-a breakfast. We showered quickly to headed out to a painting class. This is B’s painting…he always does such a great job at these things!

20190312_110840

After class we went to find some late lunch. Our initial idea was to head to Fiore for sandwiches, but they were out of bread. I was devastated, but pulled it together to find Monte 52!

We ordered a Red Dragon which we added turkey. It was so yummy with tomato, avocado, red onion, lettuce and lots of mustard and red dragon cheese. I had never heard of it, but it’s cheese with mustard and it definitely brought a punch!

20190309_154720

The other sandwich was a roast beef with horseradish aioli, cheddar cheese, and fried onions. This one had a nice spicy kick, but not too spicy. It was so yummy!

20190309_154735

We headed closer to home and wandered around the mall thinking about our evening plans. We decided to head to a Redbox and finally rent Instant Family. It was such a cute movie-funny and emotional all at the same time.

After such a late lunch it was around 9pm when we decided to head out to dinner. Il Fornaio seemed like a great option. It was close by and open and I had never been!

20190309_210608

Upon being seated we immediately were served warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread was fluffy on the inside and crusty on the outside. Bread. Heaven.

20190309_210614

We spotted the Antipasto Di Pesce which was seared ahi tuna, spicy grilled calamari, scallops and shrimp. My favorite was the spicy grilled calamari, but honestly everything on this plate was delicious! It was well cooked and so flavorful!

20190309_212542

For our main we split a dish off their seasonal menu, Trenette all Riminese. It was housemade spinach and egg pasta with shrimp, scallops, crab, tomatoes, shallots, and arugula. I’m usually a tomato based pasta girl, but this was delicious!

20190309_214932

Our sweet server brought us a tiramisu for dessert on her! This is hands down one of the best tiramisu I have ever had. It was light and creamy and oh so dreamy!

20190309_220233

Sunday morning we woke up and I decided against the gym and instead we “hiked” through a hilly neighborhood. A few up and down hills later we found a couple of more sandwiches to eat at The Carving Board.

We had their turkey dinner sandwich. This was a take on a left over Thanksgiving sandwich with stuffing, turkey, gravy, and cranberries. I really enjoyed this and the whole time I was eating it I kept thinking about FRIENDS and that scene with Ross and his turkey sandwich with the moistmaker. Anybody else?

20190310_124209

Surprising for us our other sandwich was also turkey based. It was a cold sandwich with onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, and mayo. This also had cranberries. It was fresh and crunchy and had all the ingredients to a good sandwich!

20190310_124219

We had some grocery shopping to do, but we needed something sweet. From the sandwich shop we walked to Whole Foods and on our way their we spotted Uba Tuba. We had never tried it so we got the super mini dessert portion of their acai bowl. It was the perfect little sweet treat.

We could pick two toppings so hubby got strawbs and nanas. I got bananas and sweet and condensed milk. It came with honey as well! It was light and refreshing and I could totally go for another one right now…

While at WF we spotted these individual yogurt bars. If it looks familiar it’s because we’ve been getting the strawberry and vanilla version of these from Costco. I quite badly wanted to try the hazelnut flavor so we did πŸ™‚

20190310_134415

After roaming around WF and finishing up groceries at Trader Joes we came home and unloaded our goods. We went for another walk and it started raining!

Thankfully it was a short walk and we had thought ahead to wearing hooded jackets so it was okay. We did some Yelping to figure out what we should have for dinner and decided we needed to check out Johnny Pacific again.

We ordered 4 empanadas-2 chicken al pastor and 2 beef tingas and got the chicken skewers which came with rice and salad.

20190310_183722

The beef tingas were our favorite out of the 2 and we really loved the whole meal. The flavors were really great and we will definitely be going back!

20190310_183737

Dessert was leftover cookies! What’s new??

That wraps up my birthday week! If you’ve stuck it out this far…thank you! I usually don’t write blog posts this long, but this one just needed to be done!

I hope you all are having a great week! See you Monday!

What we did this weekend

Any weekend with the hubs is a great weekend, but this weekend we had some fun plans! We kicked off the weekend by having an early lunch with our friends and their sweet two babies (basically, our favorite peeps).

We met at a sandwich shop, Fiore, they had been hyping up and it ended up being everything and more. They make their own bread and ohmy were these sammies incredible.

We split a short rib and a chicken pesto-loved both, would recommend both. I’m so hungry as I write this and so jealous of my past weekend self I can’t even handle it!

20190223_115042

20190223_115231

Since we were so close by we had to get Colorado Donuts for dessert later. We wanted to try them out again and see how they compared to our favorite SK Donuts.

20190223_111818

We did a Costco run after lunch and had very good intentions of taking a quick nap and working out, but sadly the workout never happened. We did take a long nap and wake up with a donut hankering.

Lucky for us we had some waiting downstairs for us!

20190223_111825

After trying out the donuts we went for a walk around the neighborhood before getting ready and heading out for a show at Upright Citizens Brigade.

20190223_190206

This is something we had been wanting to do since we both love comedy/improv shows so much and we were incredibly excited to finally go. It was a great show and a lot of fun to watch and I know we will be heading back for more laughs!

After all the laughs we (I) was hungry and ready for dinner so we found ourselves at Katsu-ya for sushi. I don’t know what happened but my phone camera started acting up and so the next couple of pictures are the only ones I have of our dinner.

20190223_213532

IMG-20190225-WA0003

Sunday started off strong with a workout and this yummy breakfast that B made us. Egg and cheese sandwiches!

20190224_120937

We prepped meals for the week and watched Netflix until dinner where we picked up sushi. We also picked up a cookie from Bristol Farm’s and this slice of banana chocolate chip cake from Susie Cake.

20190224_180748

20190224_181352

It was quite the decadent dinner and a wonderful end to our weekend! What did you guys do this past weekend?

Smorgasburg Sundays

This is part two of a pretty food filled weekend! Read about part 1 here.

On Sunday we headed to Smorgasburg to try out some yummy food! If you’re new to the blog and don’t know what Smorgasburg is, it is a food truck/vendor gathering that happens every Sunday. A lot of the places don’t have brick and mortar stores or they normally only do catering. It’s really fun to check out and try a bunch of new things.

They have everything you can imagine from Mexican to Thai to all kinds of fusion.

We love Smorgasburg, but it can get kinda crazy with the lines and figuring out what you want.

You definitely should not come hangry because there is a certain amount of patience needed at these food truck things, but we always have a good time!

We walked around trying to figure out what we wanted, what sounded good, looked good-all the requirements to set yourself up for a good food truck day πŸ™‚

We ended up getting some burritos and I cannot for the life of me remember the truck. We got a chicken and a beef. They were super simple, but tasty and did the trick of holding us over till our next stop.

20181223_130227

Little Llama Peruvian Tacos was that next stop and man was it a LONG one. It took 30 minutes from the time we got into line to getting our food and it was pretty painful 30 minutes if I’m honest.

20181223_135136

We got a couple of their chicken tacos and one beef. The chicken was our favorite of the two! I think it was worth the wait though. The flavors were good and look at how beautiful this presentation is-so colorful. A feast for your eyes and tummy! Gotta love that!

While eating our hard earned tacos we spotted Wanderlust. Wanderlust happened to their usual ice-cream place and another station that was selling these ice-cream bars.

20181223_140603

They looked small and like the perfect ending to our little Smorgasburg adventure. I got the mango flavor and hubby got the ube I believe. They coat the ice cream bars right there at the station with their white chocolate coating and toppings. I don’t know how they got the shell to harden so quickly! They were both very good πŸ˜‹

It was a great day at Smorgasburg!

Do you guys have anything like Smorgasburg where you live?

Saturday Shenanigans

I just love the word shenanigans! I try to not overuse it, but every time I say it, it just makes me so happy! Anyywho, I am having to split this weekend post into two so it’s not super long. You’ll see what we got up to on Sunday on Thursday’s blog πŸ™‚

We started Saturday off a little slow. We had a late Friday and didn’t get up till 9am on Saturday. This is actually super late for us, but it was fine since we didn’t have anything planned for early in the day.

We’ve had this tickets to Magic Mountain for a while so we headed over there and checked out the park. It was a surprisingly warm day and we tuckered out pretty quickly and decided to head to “brunch.”

Sandwiches seemed like a great option so we went to Mendocino and ordered our favorite Peruvian Steak Sandwich and their Pesto Turkey Tartine.

20181222_133238

Neither of use realized that the turkey was a tartine till it came to our table. It was super messy, but pretty delicious. Honestly this did not need to be a tartine, it really needed another slice of bread!

20181222_133627

The steak sandwich was delicious as always-a little spice, a lot of savory.

20181222_133614

We headed to the Grove after this to check out the sights and Christmas decor. When we got there we realized we needed something sweet and ran into this crepe shop.

20181222_145405

We created our own with strawberries, banana, and nutella. Holy cow was this so yummy! We finished this super quick!

20181222_145523

We walked around a little more and then headed back to the car for another little bakery adventure. I’ve talked about Porto’s on the blog before and we LOVE it. It’s a really great bakery and the prices are fantastic.

If you ever have a chance to visit Porto’s I highly recommend it. Depending on when you go the lines look crazy, but they go by super quickly. It also gives you a chance to figure out what you want!

We headed home with our goodies and relaxed for a while until our tummies started to tell us it was dinner time. We found a new sushi place on Yelp, Raku Teriyaki, and decided to give it a go. They had 4.5 stars and 233 reviews so we figured it was a safe bet.

20181222_193806

20181222_193811

We got a few rolls and two orders of nigiri. The nigiri was $6 to add on to a roll so we thought why not?

20181222_193803

20181222_193814

The hubs and I both thought they were good…I may have enjoyed them more then he did πŸ™‚ The fish was fresh and tasty and I always love it when the flavors on the fish complement the fish and not overpower it. Raku did that pretty well!

We had some watermelon kombucha to wash it all down! This is one of my favorite kombucha flavors from this brand.

We decided to get a “few” items to have for dessert that night and may have gone just a tad overboard. We got their cheese roll, guava and cheese pastry, tres leches cake, flan, chocolate cake, mango mousse, and a hazelnut chocolate cookie. All of this was under $20 and all of it was delicious!

Don’t be alarmed we definitely sampled all of the things, but did not finish all of it. We ended up warming up the cheese roll the next day in the toaster oven and it was just as good!

It was pretty fantastic foodie Saturday all in all πŸ™‚

What’s your favorite bakery? What do you get from there?

Our last day in Kansas City, Missouri

Our last day in Missouri was pretty fantastic since we started our day with brunch. Since the hubs and friend didn’t have to get to conference till later we all went to Homesteader Cafe to start our day.

I went with the breakfast burrito which came with a side of beans. I loved this burrito because it had potato and eggs and more veggies, but I was not a fan of having salsa poured on top. It just made the burrito soggy and I had to eat it with a knife and fork…why would I want to do that??

Despite being salty at my salsa soaked burrito I really enjoyed it…I ate some of the tortilla, but mostly consumed the filling πŸ™‚

We walked back to the hotel so they could head to conference while we watched some HGTV-basically my favorite thing to do at a hotel! LOL

Once they got back we sat around talking and looking at all the random stuff they collected while at conference and then we decided to head to Q39 as our last bbq stop of the trip.

This experience was a little different since we didn’t get a bunch of meat to share but instead got burgers and sandwiches with a couple of apps.

We started with their famous wings and got some spiced onion straws. The onions straws were thin, long onion rings, but not in a ring. Does that make sense?

Everyone LOVED the wings including our friend who isn’t a wing person. The onion straws were good, but I was hoping they would be crispier!

The hubs and I shared the burnt end burger. We thought the meat would the burnt end, but instead it was a burger patty topped with burnt end…uh what?! It was a bit too much for me so I picked at it and the hubs ended up eating what I couldn’t. Thank God for him!

We were full, but all needed something sweet so we shared their cheesecake which had chocolate ganache, caramel and nuts. It was really light and sweet!

We headed back to the hotel to grab our things and head to the airport. We made it back to LA around 9:45pm. Our friends stayed in MO for another night and send us pics of pizza and it got us craving Vito’s.

So after we landed we headed out to Vito’s and got our usual cheese pizza and since we were so close we stopped by SK Donuts to try their cookie butter donut.

Such a delicious weekend and now I am craving green juice and kale salads!

P.S. Cookie butter donut? Delicious. Glazed donut+layer of cookie butter+cookie crumbs=heaven.

Do you have a favorite bbq spot?

Missouri Day 2

This was our first full day in Kansas City and boy did we really get after it. We woke up at 6am (running on 4 hours of sleep) and worked out before heading out to breakfast.

We walked to this Australian style cafe, Banksia, that had coffee and pastries and all the goodies. I got a breakfast burrito to go and we picked up a cinnamon roll as well!

The hubs went to conference and I caught up on HGTV, blogs, emails, and even some work stuff. They had a lunch break so we all went to Jack Stack BBQ to check it out! The vibe was different than Gate’s-it was a lot more reserved let’s say.

We got the smoked salmon dip to share…

For our entree we ordered a Kansas City Combo and got the chicken and lamb ribs. We also got Jack’s best which came with the crown prime beef rib (crowd fave), baby back ribs, and beef burnt ends.

Our sides were coleslaw, beans, and a cheesy corn bake.

I think the crown prime beef rib was my favorite piece of bbq all weekend. It was super tender and delicious.

We ended up getting dessert too-carrot cake. It was served warm and the cream cheese frosting was more like melted icing on top of the cake. It was seriously good!

IMG-20180804-WA0031

Needless to say we were all pretty full!

After another round of conferences for them and finishing up work stuff for the significant others we all met up to nosh on some bites and mingle. I don’t think any of us were super hungry after lunch so this seemed like a great idea.

They had shrimp cocktails, all types off little toasts, sliders, and a ton of other little dishes. They had these little grilled cheese squares with little cups of tomato soup which were my fave.

They also had some yummy desserts-little cheesecakes, brownie bites, chocolate dipped strawberries, macarons, etc.

IMG-20180804-WA0040

There may have been a second plate of dessert…

We tried to go out, but ended up walking around until we ended back where we had at the beginning of the night. There was live jazz that was just ending much to our dismay, but we stayed and chatted till we could chat no more.

The friends came over to our room to watch some random tele and munch on some snacks. Remember the cinnamon roll? Yeah we kinda demolished that. Plus some those Sprout’s Picante flavored plantain chips that I raved about and some pretzels from the airplane…it was quite the snacky night!

They left and we packed a little before crashing into deep, deep sleep.
