Lubbock and Houston

During this whole trip we didn’t stay at a single place for more than a night. Even if we spend a couple of days in the same city we were hopping houses, hotels, and air bNb’s. It was crazy!

20181111_105116

Because of that I didn’t get too much from Lubbock. We made it there around evening time from Austin and had enough time to shower and get ready for a dinner.

We went to a Cajun restaurant called Razoos, I think. I got a po’ boy with tilapia and the hubby got a salad. I didn’t take any pics since it was a part of B’s interview process.Β

You guys by the time we left the restaurant it was SO cold! We stopped by Target to grab a few things and rushed home. The next day we could see snow flurries! We were not prepared for the cold!

The hubs dropped me off at Starbucks and he went to his interview. I ordered a tea and a little while later got their egg sous vide and an everything bagel.Β

It was my first time trying the “egg bites” and it was pretty good! They were soft and fluffy on the inside (almost souflee like?) and the outside was a little crispy which I loved. Besides eating I was able to schedule some blog posts and catch up on reading some of your posts…it was quite productive!

Once the hubby got done we had a very long drive ahead of us to Houston. We drove and drove and ended up stopping for some Taco Bell. We finally made it to our air bNb and it was so cute!

20181112_220713

The couple that greeted us were so friendly and I loved our room! It was beach themed and cozy.Β We knocked out as soon as our head hit the pillow πŸ™‚

20181112_220720

The next morning we packed up and headed out to meet up with some family. I was starving so we stopped to grab a Banh Mi for me. I know it’s a weird thing to have for breakfast, but nothing else sounded good. Honestly I would have had the pho, but it is not great car food.

20181113_104341

We met up with fam at a place they suggested called, Snooze! Can you believe it? I didn’t realize Snooze was a chain, but it’s also in Houston! I was still full from my sandwich so I ordered the OMG french toast, fruit, and coffee. I only had a piece of the french toast and shared it with everyone else!

20181113_115356

The hubby got a protein packed bowl which looked and tasted amaze! I tried a couple of bites πŸ™‚

20181113_125044

We visited some more family before heading out again to check into our hotel. We got stuck in some traffic, but made it safe and sound.

20181113_203615

I went and worked out a bit and then we got Chipotle for dinner. How pretty is that tree that was around Chipotle! They had a bunch decorated and it looked so beautiful and festive!

20181113_204428

We both got bowls and it was warm and delicious and totally filling. Noms! We packed up as much as we could since we needed to head out after hubby’s interview the next morning.

20181113_204636

While hubs headed to his interview I decided to workout again in the hotel gym. Afterwards I headed to breakfast at the hotel lobby/restaurant area. I didn’t get a pic before I started eating, but I had a piece of veggie frittata, lots of servings of fruit, and some potatoes.Β

I decided to check out the waffle maker and made my own waffle. It was so fluffy and crispy and absolute perfection. I also have some fruit hidden under there πŸ˜€

Once the interview was over we drove over to the airport to return our car and head back to LA.

I hadn’t had lunch and hubby needed a snack so I got a sandwich from Which Wich and he got a spinach feta egg white wrap from Starbucks. The sammy was wheat with turkey, cheddar, ‘cado, onion, lettuce, and tomato.

20181114_151119

20181114_151204

It was YUM! We had some time before our flight so we wandered around the airport looking at the stores and our options for dinner. When it was almost time to head on we grabbed some dinner from Panda Express for our flight.

It was delicious and the only pic I have is terrible since it was so dark! We made it back home pretty late and ended up sleeping within an hour of arriving. We were both beat!Β

It was a really great trip! Till next time!

Austin

Our drive from OKC to San Antonio was a long one, but lucky for us Austin is pretty close to San Antonio so it was a quick trip!

We made it to our adorable airBnB and settled in while waiting for B’s brother to arrive from OKC.

We had made plans to hang out with him while we were in Austin. Once he got there we (I) decided tacos were much needed.

We headed to Juan in a Million. We were all starving, but once seated we were greeted with tortilla chips and salsa. The hubs ordered some guac too! We annihilated one basket and she came back with another.

I had to stop eating the chips because our tacos started coming out. I was expecting smaller sizes of tacos, but these were pretty big. Eyes>stomach πŸ˜…

I don’t remember which ones we got, but they were all pretty good!

We ended up walking around the area for a bit. They had a lot of little art galleries set up so it was really cool!

We were pretty ready for dessert by this point. I wanted to check out Shipley’s so we went. It was really late in the day so they didn’t have much. I ended up grabbing a glazed to try and it was simply okay.

We were told that they do hot glazed in the morning and I imagine that is way better!

We dropped into Amy’s for some ice-cream. Their Mexican vanilla is very popular and I can see why. It’s so flavorful!

I ended up getting the Oreo which is their Mexican Vanilla with crushed up Oreo. It was fantastic!

We left and walked around a mall until our improv show. We also checked out downtown and some other popular areas.

Austin is so beautiful! I love the neon signs and string lights that are at every restaurant and bar!

After the improv show we grabbed pizza at Homeslice! This place was so cute, but dimly lit.

Each of the menus had a different meme on the front. I thought they were fun!

You guys, it was a cold night and hot pizza definitely hit the spot.

I don’t think any of us could imagine walking out again to find dessert so we had chocolate chip cookies and milk at Homeslice too πŸ˜‹

These cookies were fat and chewy, but would have been over the top if they had been just a little warm.

I fell asleep in the car on our way back to the airBnB. We crashed so hard once our head hit the pillows.

Our next stop was Lubbock so we got up and grabbed some gas, coffee, and Torchy’s for me before heading out.

I got the breakfast one with brisket in it…the Wrangler I think. I promise this tasted better than it looked!

I will see you guys Thursday with the next leg of our trip!

Have you been to Austin? What did you think?

Roadtrip: OKC and San Antonio

Good morning lovely people!

We recently did a little roadtrip around Texas for some interviews for hubby.

I thought it would be fun to share our memories here and bring you guys along.

Both hubby and I had to be at work the morning of our trip. I had a class to attend and he had actual work.

I grabbed a quick breakfast from our cafeteria and it really hit the spot! Simple scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and hot sauce all over errythang…

Once we got to the airport that afternoon we grabbed a sandwich to eat.

Later on we grabbed a hummus chicken wrap for dinner since we wouldn’t arrive in OKC until midnight.

We were in Oklahoma for a couple of days. B did his interview in OKC and then we hung out with our families for a couple of days!

November is a very busy month for our family since it’s filled with birthdays and other celebrations. I’m not kidding! We literally have 1 to 2 birthdays a week in November. Since we happened to be in town we just celebrated everything for everyone at one time 😁

I didn’t record much of our time in OKC, but I did get some pics of our cupcakes.

We left OKC for San Antonio very early on a Friday morning. The hubby had rented a Jeep and I can honestly say that it was a great vehicle for this trip. It had navigation, heated seats, heated steering wheel, bluetooth, and so many more things to make many hours of driving bearable!

It’s been pretty gray everywhere since it’s fall. This was our view from our hotel room:

I worked out while hubs did his interview dinner the first night. He brought me home some chick-fil-a #besthusbandever.

I watched a lot of HGTV and Say Yes to the Dress during our 1 night 2 day stay.

The next morning B went back for more interview stuff and I worked out and grabbed some free breakfast from the hotel. I showered and started packing us up for our next leg of the trip!

Once he got back he worked out, ate breakfast, showered and we headed out to Austin.

I’m going to leave it at that! See you guys in Austin πŸ˜‰

Do you like to roadtrip? Tell me about your favorite roadtrip in the comments!

Things I Do Before Traveling

We are going to be heading out for a week long trip and that had me thinking about all the things I do to prep. I like to do things to help me get ready for the trip (obvi!) and have me thanking myself when arriving home so let’s jump in!

If we’re planning on flying I make sure that we have all our travel size necessities (toothpaste, lotion, etc). If we use something up by the end of the trip I will add it to my shopping list to pick up so I’m not running around before our next trip.

20180608_145848

We usually do a weekly grocery trip since most things we buy are fresh fruits and veggies and they are perishable. For the week leading up to any trip I try to use up what we have in the fridge and avoid buying or opening anything I can’t use up. I don’t think anyone likes coming home to rotting produce πŸ˜–

20180810_135035

As close as I can to our departure date I will do a nice deep clean of the house. Coming home after vacations can be sad and I don’t like to make it worse by coming home to a dirty house!

20180920_121306

This goes along with the cleaning but I wash all our last minute laundry, blankets, sheets and such. I like fresh sheets and we will probably be coming home with a load of laundry Β anyways so this minimizes the loads we have to do.

20180920_121442

I check the weather and overpack. I’ve come to realize over the years and after a few trips that 72 degrees in California is not the same as 72 in Hawaii. I tend to pack layers since I get cold very easily and I like choices so I do overpack…I know I need to work on this, but it’s so hard. Lucky for me I have a wonderful husband who has no problem packing whatever I decide to bring πŸ˜€

20180423_132646

That last one wasn’t helpful so much as it was me being super honest! It helps me in the sense that it gives me peace of mind, but I can’t help but feel jealous of those that can pack 1 pair of pants and 3 tops for a 3 weeks. Meanwhile I’m over here packing my whole house for a week long trip…send help!

Thanks for stopping by friends and I hope you enjoyed the post! Leave me a comment letting me know what kind of packer/traveler you are. Do you clean the house? Are you a professional light packer?

Favorite moments in October

You guys, this post is more for me than anything else. This past month has been so crazy and filled with ups and downs and I just wanted to take a minute to talk about all my favorite moments before diving into another busy month!

Hubby had to be in Fontana for 2 weeks plus traveling for interviews so any time he came home was a highlight moment! The 2 week stent we were only apart for one of those weeks, but that’s the longest we had been apart since getting married. It was rough, but it made him being home all the sweeter!

Having a super quick trip to Vegas is 2nd only to hubby coming home. This was super fast, super delicious, and super fun! I also loved being able to have that experience with B and enjoy that time together!

20181016_091802

We had the annual retreat with B’s work this month! It was amazing being able to relax and hang out with some good friends especially since this will be our last retreat. We did ice-breakers, danced, and ate lots of snacks!

20181026_164718

Being at home with hubby and doing absolutely nothing! I think being away from home so much in October has made me really appreciate being at home with nothing to do. Sometimes routines can get boring, but right now I am craving some regularity to my weeks. I am still trying to enjoy and appreciate every moment!

The adventure continues this month with a flight and road trip and possibly some home renovations! I am planning on bringing you guys along and trying to keep posting as regularly as possible. Thanks for coming on this journey with me!

Our last day in Kansas City, Missouri

Our last day in Missouri was pretty fantastic since we started our day with brunch. Since the hubs and friend didn’t have to get to conference till later we all went to Homesteader Cafe to start our day.

I went with the breakfast burrito which came with a side of beans. I loved this burrito because it had potato and eggs and more veggies, but I was not a fan of having salsa poured on top. It just made the burrito soggy and I had to eat it with a knife and fork…why would I want to do that??

IMG-20180804-WA0041.jpg

Despite being salty at my salsa soaked burrito I really enjoyed it…I ate some of the tortilla, but mostly consumed the filling πŸ™‚

We walked back to the hotel so they could head to conference while we watched some HGTV-basically my favorite thing to do at a hotel! LOL

Once they got back we sat around talking and looking at all the random stuff they collected while at conference and then we decided to head to Q39 as our last bbq stop of the trip.

This experience was a little different since we didn’t get a bunch of meat to share but instead got burgers and sandwiches with a couple of apps.

We started with their famous wings and got some spiced onion straws. The onions straws were thin, long onion rings, but not in a ring. Does that make sense?

IMG-20180804-WA0029

Everyone LOVED the wings including our friend who isn’t a wing person. The onion straws were good, but I was hoping they would be crispier!

The hubs and I shared the burnt end burger. We thought the meat would the burnt end, but instead it was a burger patty topped with burnt end…uh what?! It was a bit too much for me so I picked at it and the hubs ended up eating what I couldn’t. Thank God for him!

IMG-20180804-WA0027

We were full, but all needed something sweet so we shared their cheesecake which had chocolate ganache, caramel and nuts. It was really light and sweet!

IMG-20180804-WA0024

We headed back to the hotel to grab our things and head to the airport. We made it back to LA around 9:45pm. Our friends stayed in MO for another night and send us pics of pizza and it got us craving Vito’s.

20180804_224125

So after we landed we headed out to Vito’s and got our usual cheese pizza and since we were so close we stopped by SK Donuts to try their cookie butter donut.

20180804_231344

Such a delicious weekend and now I am craving green juice and kale salads!

P.S. Cookie butter donut? Delicious. Glazed donut+layer of cookie butter+cookie crumbs=heaven.

Do you have a favorite bbq spot?

Missouri Day 2

This was our first full day in Kansas City and boy did we really get after it. We woke up at 6am (running on 4 hours of sleep) and worked out before heading out to breakfast.

We walked to this Australian style cafe, Banksia, that had coffee and pastries and all the goodies. I got a breakfast burrito to go and we picked up a cinnamon roll as well!

20180803_090659

Cinnamon roll all packaged up

20180803_093629

The hubs went to conference and I caught up on HGTV, blogs, emails, and even some work stuff. They had a lunch break so we all went to Jack Stack BBQ to check it out! The vibe was different than Gate’s-it was a lot more reserved let’s say.

We got the smoked salmon dip to share…

IMG-20180804-WA0036

For our entree we ordered a Kansas City Combo and got the chicken and lamb ribs. We also got Jack’s best which came with the crown prime beef rib (crowd fave), baby back ribs, and beef burnt ends.

IMG-20180804-WA0038

IMG-20180804-WA0032

Our sides were coleslaw, beans, and a cheesy corn bake.

IMG-20180804-WA0033

IMG-20180804-WA0037

I think the crown prime beef rib was my favorite piece of bbq all weekend. It was super tender and delicious.

We ended up getting dessert too-carrot cake. It was served warm and the cream cheese frosting was more like melted icing on top of the cake. It was seriously good!

IMG-20180804-WA0031

Needless to say we were all pretty full!

After another round of conferences for them and finishing up work stuff for the significant others we all met up to nosh on some bites and mingle. I don’t think any of us were super hungry after lunch so this seemed like a great idea.

They had shrimp cocktails, all types off little toasts, sliders, and a ton of other little dishes. They had these little grilled cheese squares with little cups of tomato soup which were my fave.

IMG-20180804-WA0039

They also had some yummy desserts-little cheesecakes, brownie bites, chocolate dipped strawberries, macarons, etc.

IMG-20180804-WA0040

There may have been a second plate of dessert…

IMG-20180804-WA0030

We tried to go out, but ended up walking around until we ended back where we had at the beginning of the night. There was live jazz that was just ending much to our dismay, but we stayed and chatted till we could chat no more.

The friends came over to our room to watch some random tele and munch on some snacks. Remember the cinnamon roll? Yeah we kinda demolished that. Plus some those Sprout’s Picante flavored plantain chips that I raved about and some pretzels from the airplane…it was quite the snacky night!

They left and we packed a little before crashing into deep, deep sleep.

The time we went to Kansas City, Missouri

A few weeks ago hubs had a conference he needed to go to so I tagged along and we made it a little adventure πŸ™‚

We had to be on the plane by 7am so we woke up before the sun was even shining to make it on the plane. This meant I had time for coffee, but no food. Don’t worry friends before I could get hangry our plane landed in Denver and we had enough time to grab some breakfast.

This is where I had my first Einstein Bros bagel. I ordered an everything bagel with lox but got a plain bagel instead. I was a bit devastated, but I will say it was still pretty yummy! Bae had some greek yogurt with berries…

20180802_104501

We got back on the plane and headed to our final destination-Kansas City, Missouri. It was hot and a little humid when we got off the plane, but we decided to check in to our hotel and find some lunch.

We went to this little market close to the hotel and the hub and I shared a couple of sandwiches. We got a spicy turkey of some sort and I think the reuben.

IMG-20180807-WA0002

Both were yummy, but we both liked the turkey the best!

After this it was time for some conference stuff so we split up and I went to the hotel to get us kind of unpacked and organized for the weekend. I also had a chance to chill, hydrate, and freshen up for the night!

We had started asking everybody we saw including our Uber and Lyft drivers what their favorite bbq spot was. We got a few different answers, but a lot of it was between Gates’s, Q39, Joe’s, and Jack Stack. We knew there was no way we were going to be able to eat that much bbq in the 3 short days we were there, but we all decided to give it our all.

In that spirit we made Gate’s our first BBQ stop.

We were hungry and the employees at Gate’s got us super excited and we got the presidential platter which may have been a mistake.

It’s SO. MUCH. FOOD. Definitely, way too much food to split between 5 people-you need at least 10. It came with turkey, chicken, brisket, ribs, sausage and we got beans, coleslaw, and bread too.

I think the beef sausage was our favorite that night…it had a really great spice that I really enjoyed!

It was all delicious and so we ate and ate and I don’t think we even made a dent in that platter. We did we could and packed up the rest and gave it out to whoever was in need of some bbq!

IMG-20180804-WA0035

We ended up at Insomnia Cookie for dessert and it was pretty spectacular. We shared an ice-cream sandwich. We paired a white chocolate macadamia cookie and a chocolate chunk cookie along with birthday cake ice-cream to make a sweet, melty treat!

IMG-20180807-WA0000

We took a short walk around to check out the night life and stayed up well past any of our bedtimes. I think the hubs and I were in bed by 2am and we woke up around 6am the next day to workout, but that’s a story for next time πŸ™‚

See you then!

Back to Cali

Our trip back from Oklahoma was pretty uneventful, but we had some delicious pho and bahn mi from SFO.

We had a couple of hours at SFO so we walked around and found our way in the international terminal. We were hungry and when we spotted Mum Fresh we were hit with delicious smells and couldn’t resist.

We got the chicken pho and added in some sriracha for that spicy brothy goodness. The noodles were light and chewy. Before the sriracha the broth had this slight sweet flavor from the thinly sliced white onions I think. The chicken was tender and when you bring everything together it was comfort in a bowl.

20180619_103601

The bahn mi was also chicken and it had all things that make a bahn mi a bahn mi-jalapenos, cilantro, carrots, etc. The bread was crusty yet chewy and didn’t cut up your mouth. The spicy savory flavor went really well with the pho…

After we had this I couldn’t stop talking about how delicious it was!

If you ever find yourself in SFO with some time to kill I suggest you hit up Mum Fresh!

More Eating (SF Part 4)

Thanks for coming back for Part 4 of our SF trip! This will be the last post…I promise πŸ™‚ Grab some tea and lets get started!

After Alcatraz we took the ferry back and I was ready for some food! We went to Boudin which is famous for their sourdough bread.

They make all kinds of fun shaped sourdough bread, but we went for a turkey and havarti sandwich on sourdough (duh!) and tomato soup in a sourdough bread bowl.

20180518_154647

The sandwich tasted SO delicious to me, but the hubs said it may have been because I was SO hungry. I loved the soup too, but I don’t think I am a bread bowl gal which seems crazy since I LOVE bread.

We walked some more after lunch to find dessert and we hit up not one, but two spots!

The first being Trish’s Mini Donuts who has these mini donuts sprinkled with sugar-they were hot and fresh and yummy!

20180518_160349

The second was a cookie dough place called Doughp. We had been wanting to try out a cookie dough place and now seemed like the perfect time since it was in walking distance. We got the PB cookie dough and put sprinkles and PB sauce on it.

20180518_161647

It was also really good! If you love cookie dough then check it out!!

We kept walking and stumbled into these guys…

20180518_164421

After this we perused some of the stores on the Pier and then kept walking. We went to find other touristy things to do and ended up walking up a very steep hill to get to one particular tourist destination.

20180518_173332

Lombard Street!

20180518_174217

I know this isn’t the best pic of it, but it’s this cool super curvy street that also happens to be really beautiful.

You guys, we were plain worn out after all this walking. We walked back to our cars and decided to go to a comedy show so we could finally just chill!

Since we had some time to kill we did the rest of our sight seeing in the comfort of our car until it was showtime. I really enjoyed the comedy show and it was a really good break for our tired legs!

Dinner ended up being late and I had been feeling kind of sick so we went for ramen at Marufuku. We ended up getting takoyaki for our app and two bowls of chicken ramen.

IMG-20180520-WA0046

The hubs and I got the same thing, but he got the fancier version with a whole piece of chicken on the side!

20180518_222442

I don’t know if you can guess what we had after dinner? If you guessed Fenton’s you would be so right. I got the same blueberry cheesecake flavor that I fell in love with that first night.

20180518_225657

We went back to our AirBNB and crashed so hard that night!

We had so much fun in SF and I hope you guys get to visit if you haven’t had the chance! Let me know if you have been to any of these places and what you thought or if there are any places we missed that we should check out or our next trip.

See you Friday!
