Saturday Shenanigans

I just love the word shenanigans! I try to not overuse it, but every time I say it, it just makes me so happy! Anyywho, I am having to split this weekend post into two so it’s not super long. You’ll see what we got up to on Sunday on Thursday’s blog ๐Ÿ™‚

We started Saturday off a little slow. We had a late Friday and didn’t get up till 9am on Saturday. This is actually super late for us, but it was fine since we didn’t have anything planned for early in the day.

We’ve had this tickets to Magic Mountain for a while so we headed over there and checked out the park. It was a surprisingly warm day and we tuckered out pretty quickly and decided to head to “brunch.”

Sandwiches seemed like a great option so we went to Mendocino and ordered our favorite Peruvian Steak Sandwich and their Pesto Turkey Tartine.

20181222_133238

Neither of use realized that the turkey was a tartine till it came to our table. It was super messy, but pretty delicious. Honestly this did not need to be a tartine, it really needed another slice of bread!

20181222_133627

The steak sandwich was delicious as always-a little spice, a lot of savory.

20181222_133614

We headed to the Grove after this to check out the sights and Christmas decor. When we got there we realized we needed something sweet and ran into this crepe shop.

20181222_145405

We created our own with strawberries, banana, and nutella. Holy cow was this so yummy! We finished this super quick!

20181222_145523

We walked around a little more and then headed back to the car for another little bakery adventure. I’ve talked about Porto’s on the blog before and we LOVE it. It’s a really great bakery and the prices are fantastic.

If you ever have a chance to visit Porto’s I highly recommend it. Depending on when you go the lines look crazy, but they go by super quickly. It also gives you a chance to figure out what you want!

We headed home with our goodies and relaxed for a while until our tummies started to tell us it was dinner time. We found a new sushi place on Yelp, Raku Teriyaki, and decided to give it a go. They had 4.5 stars and 233 reviews so we figured it was a safe bet.

20181222_193806

20181222_193811

We got a few rolls and two orders of nigiri. The nigiri was $6 to add on to a roll so we thought why not?

20181222_193803

20181222_193814

The hubs and I both thought they were good…I may have enjoyed them more then he did ๐Ÿ™‚ The fish was fresh and tasty and I always love it when the flavors on the fish complement the fish and not overpower it. Raku did that pretty well!

We had some watermelon kombucha to wash it all down! This is one of my favorite kombucha flavors from this brand.

20181222_194004

We decided to get a “few” items to have for dessert that night and may have gone just a tad overboard. We got their cheese roll, guava and cheese pastry, tres leches cake, flan, chocolate cake, mango mousse, and a hazelnut chocolate cookie. All of this was under $20 and all of it was delicious!

20181222_170355

Don’t be alarmed we definitely sampled all of the things, but did not finish all of it. We ended up warming up the cheese roll the next day in the toaster oven and it was just as good!

It was pretty fantastic foodie Saturday all in all ๐Ÿ™‚

What’s your favorite bakery? What do you get from there?

Full Day of Eating

Happy Monday Friends! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and I wanted to share with you another full day of eats.

I don’t know what the deal with was this day, but I wasn’t super hungry. Normally I’m ravenous once I wake up and especially after my workout, but my body was not about the food this morning. So I kept it basic and started my morning off with a multi grain waffle with almond butter and some bluebs.

20180721_144853

Some friends and I had made plans for lunch at noon! We went to Joey and I felt my appetite kind of crawling up so I was excited ๐Ÿ™‚

I ended up going for the rotisserie chicken sandwich. It had rotisserie chicken, cheese, tomato and lettuce. It came with these thin, crispy, perfect fries so I definitely ate some of those.

20180721_124631

I ate half of the sandwich and had half the fries and took the rest of the sandwich home to hubby.

Hubby and I ran around after he got home from work and after all the running around I was getting hungry again so we had a pretty early dinner at Tomoya.

To start we got some miso soup. I love miso soup and it totally hit the spot-so warm and soothing!

20180721_181708

We also nibbled on edamame while we figured out which rolls we wanted.

20180721_181930

We ended up picking 2 rolls: a spicy tuna without rice and a rainbow roll with blue crab. Both were good, but I definitely preferred the spicy tuna!

20180721_182945

We had made plans to go see Hotel Transylvania 3 after dinner, but we made in time to find dessert first. We went to Jeni’s. Honestly some of the best ice-cream I have had to date.

20180721_192114

We ended up getting a flight of minis so we got to pick 3 flavors. We picked peanut butter with chocolate flakes, gooey butter cake, and brown butter almond brittle. The hubs loved the PBC and gooey butter cake the best. I loved the gooey butter cake and brown butter almond brittle the most.

We watched the movie-super cute by the way and then headed home! That concludes my FDOE which kinda turned into a bit of a full day of living too.

What did you eat today? Let me know in the comments below!

A true brunch

I feel like I’ve posted on here about Leo & Lily’s a few times, but it’s definitely one of our favorite go to spots for any meal, but especially brunch.

We came one Saturday for brunch and then I made a rash decision to have a sandwich from their lunch section. Major shocker! But isn’t that what brunch is about? Combining lunch and breakfast and making it one beautiful delicious meal?

I ended up getting the pastrami sandwich and it was amazing, but I could only finish half of it along with all of my side salad. ย We did end up eating the rest late night though so that was a nice treat ๐Ÿ™‚

20180714_123516

To keep up with the breakfast side of things the hubs stuck with the breakfast section and got his usual egg white frittata that he loves!

20180714_123536

I love that there is something for everyone here! It’s seriously great food-I’ve never had anything bad here and it’s such a super cute spot to bring friends, family, a date ๐Ÿ˜‰

What is your go-to brunch place?

Hello San Francisco or SF Part 1

We had been to SF before and were a bit overwhelmed and underwhelmed all at the same time. When talking to friends we discovered we had missed a LOT and so we knew we had to return. With somewhat of an itinerary in mind this time we planned out our trip (hubby planned our trip and I nodded a lot)!

We left home bleary eyed and bushy tailed as the sun was beginning to rise! I need coffee so I had taken the time to have a cup before leaving, but did not have breakfast. Seeing as how I need to be eating all the time we made a stop and got some breakfast from McDonald’s ๐Ÿ˜€

We both got the egg white and turkey sausage bowl which comes with parmesan cheese, a wilted kale/spinach mix, and some fresh chopped tomatoes. Again, not big into egg whites, but I really enjoyed this bowl.

20180517_074822

The turkey sausage had a good savory bite to it which went well with the mellowness of the egg white. The tomatoes and parmesan added some flavor and bite to the dish while the spinach and kale added some moisture. All of it came to create a TASTY bowl that had macros AND micros which is always a win for me!

Just in case we didn’t have enough micros we had packed some carrots to munch on so we had these with our breakfast bowls ๐Ÿ™‚

20180517_074827

We also shared this delicious fruit and yogurt parfait because who doesn’t like dessert with every meal? Besides #roadtrip.

20180517_074835

Our first stop was Redwood Forest for some light hiking. After being in the car for 5.5 hours it felt AMAZING to stretch our legs and breathe in the woodsy scent of all the trees. ย There was a park and lots of picnicking areas-very family friendly!

IMG-20180520-WA0021.jpg

After getting our circulation flowing we decided to head to our AirBNB. We’ve stayed at many AirBNB’s and this one was a real winner! Everything was clean and fresh and looked super comfy (it was!).

IMG-20180520-WA0023

We checked in, freshened up, put our stuff away and headed out to our next adventure. We headed to Lou’s Cafe to grab some sandwiches and picnic at a park. We got the Hot Pastrami and Pesto Chicken. All the gourmet sandwiches are dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onions and jalapeรฑo spread besides having their own special ingredients.

The Pesto Chicken was simple, but tasty with avocado, American cheese, pesto aioli, and chicken breast on a roll. This didn’t taste super pesto-y to me, but the flavors worked well together. The bread was kinda crusty on the outside and chewy inside so it made a good vessel.

20180517_153404

The Hot Pastrami was the favorite out of the 2. It had pastrami (duh), cheddar cheese, Lou’s sauce (Idk what this is), on a Dutch Crunch roll. The meat was super tender and there was creaminess from the sauce and cheese and freshness from the lettuce, tomato, etc. The bread added on another layer of texture by being crustier than the bread for the Pesto Chicken. It was SO. SO. GOOD.

20180517_153328

We ate our sandwiches at Golden Gate Park near the Conservatory of Flowers building and had apples we had brought from home for our dessert!

After our lunch we perused our way through the park and saw some beautiful roses in the rose garden. I honestly couldn’t help, but take some pictures of these roses. In person they were much larger and fluffier and more vibrant and as much as I knew a picture couldn’t do it justice I couldn’t help myself-they were that beautiful.

20180517_161637

We continued to walk through the park and came across a lake (we love any walk involving a water scene) and ended up spending a very long time walking around it. To be fair it was a pretty massive lake and there was a lot to see.

This waterfall being one of those things. It was so cool because there were stairs leading all the way up the waterfall so you could actually see each part of the waterfall!

20180517_171439

These duckies were the other thing I couldn’t help gushing over. I mean, how cute are they??!!

IMG-20180520-WA0030

Okay, friends my initial plan was to make this post into 2 parts, but seeing as how long this has already been I may have to make into 3 (possibly 4) posts. Stay tuned for the next post to read about what we did after our long walk in the park!

Have you guys been to SF? What are your favorite spots??

The Tale of Bay Cities

I don’t know how, but we had somehow managed to not visit the Getty Villa in our nearly two years of living in LA.

IMG-20180506-WA0024

We finally made it!

It is so beautiful-the architecture, the art, the garden. It’s seriously worth the visit if you are in LA.

We walked around taking in the art and the sunshine until we were tired and hungry. This is where Bay Cities came to save the day!

Bay Cities is an Italian deli and grocery store. We were here for the sandwiches!

We got the reuben with corned beef and the tri tip.ย The sandwiches were delicious (messy, but delicious) and the baguette holding it all together was dreamy.

IMG-20180506-WA0004

We also had to get chips on the side because #childhood

And these rainbow cookies because it was bae’s childhood

IMG-20180506-WA0006

Since we were so close we stopped by the Grove and had a donut. A sprinkled chocolate glazed donut to be exact.

IMG-20180506-WA0008

How could we not?

IMG-20180506-WA0009

Do you have a favorite local sandwich place?

Picnic on the Beach

We visited Redondo Beach (my first time) and we decided to do a little picnic so we stopped and picked up some sandwiches on the way there.

IMG-20180503-WA0007

We went to Yo-Way. This place has 5 stars with over 500 reviews…um, yes please! We ended up getting the Blazin’ Cajun (turkey) and Poppin’ Pastrami.

IMG-20180503-WA0008

Here is a close up of Blazin’ Cajun

IMG-20180503-WA0015

Now the Poppin’ Pastrami

IMG-20180503-WA0011

Both were AMAZING, but humongous. We also had some chips and iced-tea ๐Ÿ™‚

20180428_152256

On our way back to the car we stopped and couldn’t resist getting a churro! Sweet ending to a sweet day!

Fishing around

It’s no secret we love food in this house and if we can combine that with being active-even better! We woke up in the morning and went to the gym before having a quick breakfast and heading back out for a hike with some friends.

IMG-20180418-WA0013

Post-hike we all decided to grab food so we went to Carving Board for sandwiches. Since the hubs and I had just eaten we split a side salad and the Big Kahuna which is ahi tuna seared rare, cucumbers, seaweed, tomatoes, red onions, and their spread on a yummy brioche bun.

20180414_142140

I loved the flavors of this and how well everything melded together. The side salad was really great too and perfectly dressed!

Post lunch our sweet tooths were coming out pretty ferociously and it was hot so of course, it was the ideal day for something cold and creamy! Our friends had just told us about SomiSomi and how good the taiyaki was so we couldn’t resist.

20180414_153347

The taiyaki was chewy and crunchy and it was a perfect shell for the creamy soft serve. I ended up going with the ube flavor and the hubs got the milk flavor. Both were delicious!

20180414_153438

Don’t kill me for this, but I think I may prefer taiyaki over a waffle cone now…

Have you ever had taiyaki with soft serve? Do you prefer it over the waffle cone?? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Lunch date

When you’re busy and missing bae a lunch date can cheer up your day ๐Ÿ™‚ Am I cheesy or what?

Let’s just pretend that didn’t happen and move on, shall we? We’ve been busy people and so we found some time to catch up and grab some yummy sandwiches on a random Wednesday.

20171129_121748

Sandwich Study of Heat

We recently stumbled into a Mendocino Farms and so we’ve been trying to find something new to try every time we go. This time we went with The Sandwich Study of Heat and K-Town BBQ Steak Sandwich.

2017-12-02 12.57.12

K-Town BBQ Steak

I’m a little addicted to sandwiches-what can I say?

We obviously had to end our date on a sweet note and we decided on some frozen yogurt. It really hit the spot!

IMG-20171202-WA0038

What are some of your favorite ways to have a date day?
