Back to SF

We woke up Sunday morning to a really gorgeous view of the sun rising outside of our AirBnB. We showered, packed up our things, and headed out for the second leg of our adventure to SF.

We stopped by a Safeway to grab some snacks for our drive to SF and I need a cup of coffee in the morning so we stopped by a local coffee shop to grab some and plan out our day.

20190106_093935

We started our drive and munched on some bluebs. We ended up driving to downtown SF to check out a mall and walk around. It was raining so we were wanting to stay warm and cozy…this thought didn’t last long 🙂

20190106_111912.jpg

Soon enough our hunger creeped in and we decided to hit up Limoncello for some sandwiches. If you’ve been to SF you know how hard it is to find parking so once you aren’t leaving. This sandwich spot was a 30 minute walk, but feeling adventurous we decided we were up for it.

You guys it was pouring down rain so hard that we had to stop in at a CVS to buy an umbrella. We finally made it completely soaked, but super excited for our sandwiches.

We got a turkey pesto and a pastrami sandwich. We added their spicy sauce for both and they were both fantastic. I can’t tell you which one to get because the hubby liked the pastrami better and I liked the turkey.

20190106_162129

By the way, they were massive sandwiches and totally shareable. We actually ate the turkey first and then had the pastrami later on. After the sandwich we decided to go and check out the Painted Ladies. I just love these houses and how cute they are!

20190106_151355

We headed to our next AirBnB so we can get freshened up and get our stuff unloaded. The house was so cute!

20190106_154155

The bedroom was done in a cheerful yellow and super cozy and clean! We rested for a little bit and listened to the rain spatter on the windows and roof.

20190106_155633

We headed out to the comedy show at Neck of the Woods. It was a pretty good lineup. There were definitely some that were funnier than others. After the show we discovered we were close to Burma Superstar.

20190106_190042

It’s a super highly rated restaurant on Yelp and our friends had recommended the spot to us as well.

20190106_204053

We started with a couple of apps-their well known Tea Leaf Salad. It’s seriously the most interesting salad I have ever had. It’s got all these different flavors and textures…SO MUCH crunch! I loved that they mix it up for you table side.

20190106_204510

We also ordered Platha Dip. It was this super flaky, layered “bread”-similar to an Indian version of paratha-that was served with a warm coconut curry. The curry was savory and perfectly spiced.

20190106_204515

Even though we had every intention of ordering an entree, after having the Platha Dip we had seriously no room. We were full and done! I hope we eventually get the chance to go back and check out an entree or two 🙂

We headed back to the AirBnB for a goodnights rest! We woke up Monday morning to a little bit of sunshine. We stopped by a Panera for a couple of yogurt parfait’s before heading home.

Have you guys been to Burma Superstar? What did you think?

More Eating (SF Part 4)

Thanks for coming back for Part 4 of our SF trip! This will be the last post…I promise 🙂 Grab some tea and lets get started!

After Alcatraz we took the ferry back and I was ready for some food! We went to Boudin which is famous for their sourdough bread.

They make all kinds of fun shaped sourdough bread, but we went for a turkey and havarti sandwich on sourdough (duh!) and tomato soup in a sourdough bread bowl.

20180518_154647

The sandwich tasted SO delicious to me, but the hubs said it may have been because I was SO hungry. I loved the soup too, but I don’t think I am a bread bowl gal which seems crazy since I LOVE bread.

We walked some more after lunch to find dessert and we hit up not one, but two spots!

The first being Trish’s Mini Donuts who has these mini donuts sprinkled with sugar-they were hot and fresh and yummy!

20180518_160349

The second was a cookie dough place called Doughp. We had been wanting to try out a cookie dough place and now seemed like the perfect time since it was in walking distance. We got the PB cookie dough and put sprinkles and PB sauce on it.

20180518_161647

It was also really good! If you love cookie dough then check it out!!

We kept walking and stumbled into these guys…

20180518_164421

After this we perused some of the stores on the Pier and then kept walking. We went to find other touristy things to do and ended up walking up a very steep hill to get to one particular tourist destination.

20180518_173332

Lombard Street!

20180518_174217

I know this isn’t the best pic of it, but it’s this cool super curvy street that also happens to be really beautiful.

You guys, we were plain worn out after all this walking. We walked back to our cars and decided to go to a comedy show so we could finally just chill!

Since we had some time to kill we did the rest of our sight seeing in the comfort of our car until it was showtime. I really enjoyed the comedy show and it was a really good break for our tired legs!

Dinner ended up being late and I had been feeling kind of sick so we went for ramen at Marufuku. We ended up getting takoyaki for our app and two bowls of chicken ramen.

IMG-20180520-WA0046

The hubs and I got the same thing, but he got the fancier version with a whole piece of chicken on the side!

20180518_222442

I don’t know if you can guess what we had after dinner? If you guessed Fenton’s you would be so right. I got the same blueberry cheesecake flavor that I fell in love with that first night.

20180518_225657

We went back to our AirBNB and crashed so hard that night!

We had so much fun in SF and I hope you guys get to visit if you haven’t had the chance! Let me know if you have been to any of these places and what you thought or if there are any places we missed that we should check out or our next trip.

See you Friday!

To Prison We Went (SF Part 3)

If you’ve stuck along this far on my SF posts I appreciate it! There will be a SF Part 4 on Wednesday because after typing up this post I noticed how long it was and decided to make it two smaller posts. Let’s jump into it!

We started our morning pretty early and went to grab coffee and split some sort of breakfast. We came to a spot pretty close to our AirBNB and had a couple of almond milk lattes. These were yummy!

20180518_092556

Upon perusing the menu we decided to split an egg and cheese sammich which ended up being a little dry, but made the hunger bug go away so I can’t complain…

20180518_092637

The reason we were having small breakfasts was so we could go and check out Donut Savant. We had read many good things and wanted to eat all of the donuts (per usu).

We ended up with half a dozen: 1 regular glazed cronut, 1 cinnamon sugar cronut, 1 mini chocolate glaze cronut, 1 mini maple cronut, 1 mini maple pecan cake donut, and 1 coconut cake donut.

20180518_100102

They were simple and delicious!

After this we drove to our next adventure, but since we had some time before it we parked and perused the pier and Ghirardelli Square. We did end up getting some chocolates for munching on later…how could we not?

20180518_193647

After all this walking we walked some more to get to our ferry that was going to be taking us to Alcatraz!

IMG-20180520-WA0002

If you ever go to SF I think this is something touristy and fun that I would recommend. Wear comfortable shoes because there are stairs and some up hill and down hill walking.

20180518_131841

We got headphones that led us through the tour which was great because you learned some things and since everyone started it at different times you had time to look at all the things.

20180518_133902

The tour was really interesting and really brought the place to life. I seriously couldn’t recommend it enough!

20180518_140248

We enjoyed it so much we end up getting this cup as a souvenir so we could remember our time at Alcatraz!

20180602_135727

That’s where I will be ending this post, but stay tuned for the next one to find out what happens after Alcatraz 🙂

See you lovelies Wednesday!

The Day Continues (SF Part 2)

If you haven’t read SF Part 1 feel free to click the link and read it now and we will wait while you catch up!

All caught up? Great! While we roamed through Golden Gate Park we made some plans for the evening. We decided to finally leave the park and head to see some other sights.

The Sutro Baths were another thing we missed last time so we went to find them and find them we did!

20180517_175646

Don’t let this picture fool you…it may look calm and serene, but it was windy AF. We did walk those ledges and the wind kept trying to blow us off, but the views were worth it!

After the bath ruins we were pretty tuckered out since we had hiked and walked and nearly died at the hand of the winds. We got in the car and headed to see the Golden Gate Bridge!

IMG-20180520-WA0016

I can’t even describe the bridge to you, but it’s a pretty cool experience. It’s touristy, but it’s an experience that I am glad to have had.

20180517_184552

After all the miles we had on our feet we decided to go and grab some dinner. Our friends had recommended this place to us because they wanted us to try Chicago style pizza and Zachary’s is the place to get it in North Cal.

20180517_201346

I couldn’t agree more!

The restaurant itself is really cool with fun art pieces all centered around their pizza and when we got there it was filled with people and the delicious smell only pizza can have!

IMG-20180520-WA0036

We ordered a small mushroom and spinach pizza and I thought we could finish it easily. HAH! I got through barely a slice and maybe a quarter before calling it quits.

20180517_203916

The crust is really crispy, but I guess it needs to be to hold up to all the layers. The sauce was the star here! It was really savory and sweet and flavorful. There was a ton of cheese  that was super stringy and could build you a bridge from LA to SF if needed. The mushrooms and spinach added a nice textural difference.

20180517_203924

When you put that first forkful into your pizza hole you get one hot, delicious bite. That being said I love NY style pizza and even after having this I would choose the NY stuff. I liked this a lot, but it felt more like a pizza lasagna situation than pizza?!

I’m still planning on having Chicago style pizza in Chicago before I make any rash decisions 😉

If you know us you know that dessert ensued shortly after! We hit up Fenton’s for some ice-cream. I went for the blueberry cheesecake while the hubs got a chocolate peanut butter something or other. The blueberry cheesecake was a dream! The ice-cream itself was so super duper creamy and the bites of blueberry broke up the creaminess and gave a fresh fruity flavor.

20180517_212049

This was a pretty hefty scoop, but I had already taken some bites.

The evening plans I alluded to earlier were to watch Deadpool 2. We love watching movies and what better time than after a long day of traveling and sight-seeing? We picked a random theater and when we walked into our movie this is what we saw.

20180517_213730

This is seriously one of the prettiest theaters I have ever watched a movie in! I loved all the architectural details and even the curtains were so beautifully beaded. After the movie I can tell you that we went back to the AirBNB and crashed hard!

We were beat!

On Monday I will be back with another SF post so I will see you lovelies then! Have a great weekend!!

SaveSave

Hello San Francisco or SF Part 1

We had been to SF before and were a bit overwhelmed and underwhelmed all at the same time. When talking to friends we discovered we had missed a LOT and so we knew we had to return. With somewhat of an itinerary in mind this time we planned out our trip (hubby planned our trip and I nodded a lot)!

We left home bleary eyed and bushy tailed as the sun was beginning to rise! I need coffee so I had taken the time to have a cup before leaving, but did not have breakfast. Seeing as how I need to be eating all the time we made a stop and got some breakfast from McDonald’s 😀

We both got the egg white and turkey sausage bowl which comes with parmesan cheese, a wilted kale/spinach mix, and some fresh chopped tomatoes. Again, not big into egg whites, but I really enjoyed this bowl.

20180517_074822

The turkey sausage had a good savory bite to it which went well with the mellowness of the egg white. The tomatoes and parmesan added some flavor and bite to the dish while the spinach and kale added some moisture. All of it came to create a TASTY bowl that had macros AND micros which is always a win for me!

Just in case we didn’t have enough micros we had packed some carrots to munch on so we had these with our breakfast bowls 🙂

20180517_074827

We also shared this delicious fruit and yogurt parfait because who doesn’t like dessert with every meal? Besides #roadtrip.

20180517_074835

Our first stop was Redwood Forest for some light hiking. After being in the car for 5.5 hours it felt AMAZING to stretch our legs and breathe in the woodsy scent of all the trees.  There was a park and lots of picnicking areas-very family friendly!

IMG-20180520-WA0021.jpg

After getting our circulation flowing we decided to head to our AirBNB. We’ve stayed at many AirBNB’s and this one was a real winner! Everything was clean and fresh and looked super comfy (it was!).

IMG-20180520-WA0023

We checked in, freshened up, put our stuff away and headed out to our next adventure. We headed to Lou’s Cafe to grab some sandwiches and picnic at a park. We got the Hot Pastrami and Pesto Chicken. All the gourmet sandwiches are dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onions and jalapeño spread besides having their own special ingredients.

The Pesto Chicken was simple, but tasty with avocado, American cheese, pesto aioli, and chicken breast on a roll. This didn’t taste super pesto-y to me, but the flavors worked well together. The bread was kinda crusty on the outside and chewy inside so it made a good vessel.

20180517_153404

The Hot Pastrami was the favorite out of the 2. It had pastrami (duh), cheddar cheese, Lou’s sauce (Idk what this is), on a Dutch Crunch roll. The meat was super tender and there was creaminess from the sauce and cheese and freshness from the lettuce, tomato, etc. The bread added on another layer of texture by being crustier than the bread for the Pesto Chicken. It was SO. SO. GOOD.

20180517_153328

We ate our sandwiches at Golden Gate Park near the Conservatory of Flowers building and had apples we had brought from home for our dessert!

After our lunch we perused our way through the park and saw some beautiful roses in the rose garden. I honestly couldn’t help, but take some pictures of these roses. In person they were much larger and fluffier and more vibrant and as much as I knew a picture couldn’t do it justice I couldn’t help myself-they were that beautiful.

20180517_161637

We continued to walk through the park and came across a lake (we love any walk involving a water scene) and ended up spending a very long time walking around it. To be fair it was a pretty massive lake and there was a lot to see.

This waterfall being one of those things. It was so cool because there were stairs leading all the way up the waterfall so you could actually see each part of the waterfall!

20180517_171439

These duckies were the other thing I couldn’t help gushing over. I mean, how cute are they??!!

IMG-20180520-WA0030

Okay, friends my initial plan was to make this post into 2 parts, but seeing as how long this has already been I may have to make into 3 (possibly 4) posts. Stay tuned for the next post to read about what we did after our long walk in the park!

Have you guys been to SF? What are your favorite spots??
