Mini LA Food Crawl

We had been meaning to go around the city and try out some pizza places so we ended up doing just that along with a couple of pit stops for a fish taco and another for pies ๐Ÿ˜€

This is maybe more of a mini food crawl, but it was still tasty and fun! At each of these places except the pie place we shared one item so we weren’t super stuffed and sick.

Our first stop was Mulberry Street Pizzeria.

20190112_125954

The pizza was SUPER thin, but maintained it’s crispiness. I did some serious damage to my mouth because it was SUPER hot, but it was so worth it.

20190112_130143

Ricky’s Tacos was another place we had heard so much about.ย They are known for their fish tacos. The truck lists their many taco accolades including being one of the top fish tacos in the nation!

20190112_133127

The fish in this taco was light and had a really great crunch from the batter, the cabbage added some much needed freshness to the fried fish. The tortilla did a great job of holding everything together. We topped it with the spicy salsa and their special mix of mayo and mustard and it was simply delicious!

20190112_134033

Pizzanista was our next stop!

20190112_140333

This place had the most interesting pies and the great thing is they have vegan pizza with vegan cheese and “meat.” Since we were comparing pizzas we had to get a slice of cheese. They were kind and split it for us.

20190112_141020

There was a lot more cheese on this slice and the crust was thicker. It was a good slice of pizza, but not my favorite compared to other spots!

We walked to our next and final place-The Pie Hole. Pie Hole has sweet and savory pies to please the whole crowd. We got two of their more popular pies-The Earl Grey and the Cereal Pie.

20190112_144642

The Earl Grey was very light and smooth. I tasted more chocolate then tea. The filling was nice and fluffy, but contrasted with pistachios sprinkled throughout.

20190112_144805

The Cereal Pie was denser. The filling was similar to cheesecake in texture and had fruity pebbles mixed in. It was topped with a few different cereals you may remember from your childhood (or last night) like Fruit Loops and Lucky Charms.

20190112_144757

They were both very different and very delicious!

The two places we would go back to are probably Mulberry Street and Pie Hole! It’s not that Pizzanista and Ricky’s didn’t taste yummy and in fact I recommend you try all four of these places if you get the chance!

Have you ever done a food crawl where you live? What’s your favorite spot?

A perfect meal

Well, this would definitely be ONE of my perfect meal ideas amongst many (I can’t pick a favorite of anything), but this one just will not get out of my head so I had to share.

One night for dinner through a series of events we decided on pizza, ice-cream, and brownies for dinner/dessert.

We had some cheese pizza which you know by this point is a favorite of mine ๐Ÿ™‚

20180619_194312

And we made a boxed brownie which we added chocolate chips to so it would be extra fudgey, chocolatey and rich.

20180619_195649

We decided to make those brownies because we bought this ice-cream.

20180619_195642

Lemme tell ya friends. This combination was incredible. The warm brownie, the incredibly rich and creamy ice-cream-I die!

Major drools over here…

Now that I have shared one of my favorite meals I wanna know what your perfect meal would be. Talk to me in the comments!

Till next time!

Superheros and Pasta

We decided to turn a random Thursday into a fun little date night!

We decided to catch up with the rest of the world and finally watch Black Panther. This movie gave me all the feels-I was stressed, teary, and I had chills every other scene. It was ridiculous, but I loved it and so did the hubs. We could not stop talking about it!

Another thing we had been talking about wanting to do for a while was eat at Eataly. Eataly is located inside of a mall and is known for having all things Italian. Breads, cheeses, meats, pastas, sweets and to top it off they have quite a few restaurants.

20180503_190558

We wanted to go to La Pizza and La Pasta. The plan was initially pizza (we love our pizza), but after getting there we decided we HAD to try a pasta dish.

We aren’t big pasta people. I love carbs, but I don’t usually crave a pasta dish. My carb of choice is usually bread based :D. BUT seeing the wafting bowls of pasta go by we couldn’t resist!

We did get the margherita pizza and the pasta dish we picked was the tagliatelle that was tomato based and had brisket.

The margherita was amazing-the crust was fluffy and chewy and beautiful.

20180503_191109

The pasta was perfectly sauced and the brisket was fall apart tender. It came together so perfectly-it was our favorite of the two!

20180503_19152120180503_191538

If you haven’t been you gotta go and you have to have the tagliatelle with brisket! It is seriously a dish fit for a superhero ๐Ÿ˜‰

Let me know in the comments below if you are a bread person, a pasta person or if I made you choose you could possibly combust from having to decide…

Hole Foods

I thought it would be fun to share snaps from this weekend of eating! If you’re about that clean eating life donut worry because we ate so many colors ๐Ÿ˜…

Workout and breakfast at the gym! This breakfast burrito had scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, cheddar cheese, and potatoes. So, so good.

20180421_091800

After showers we headed out to Colorado Donuts and indulged in these babies:

20180421_123716

Later on we split some tacos from our favorite vegan joint-Organix. It was so good I ๐Ÿฉ have the words to ๐ŸŒฎ about it!

20180421_160048

I ended up having some unpictured T-Bell and we shared some macarons and ‘buch for dessert #health

We did some grocery shopping Sunday and found these delicious honey mangos at Sprout’s and bought some. They were so sweet and yummy!

20180422_121543

We ended up going to the Grove and I had my first beignet…

This beautiful, doughy, pillowy glazed creation ๐Ÿ˜

And some treats from Dominque Ansel bakery. We got the DKA which is a flaky, caramelized croissant creation. The green and white thing is this matcha and passion fruit mousse thing which was amazing in all it’s flavors and textures. They were passing out madeleines to sample so we had one of those too!

20180422_162215

Donut judge ๐Ÿ˜‚, but we kept the hole food eating going by swinging through California Donuts

20180422_171302

We ended up holding on to the donuts until after dinner…we had Vito’s pizza which was incredible as always!

Erewhon Haul

Hello sweet, sweet friends! Today I come to you with a mini-haul and brunch (lunch) from Erewhon.ย We had some groceries to get so we figured we would start with a fun stop at Erewhon market!

I won’t lie I kinda love this place. It has the usual groceries along with a cafe area, cold and hot food bar, sushi, pizza, bakery, etc. Basically, if you love yummy, whole foods you will probably love it here ๐Ÿ™‚

We grabbed snagged these organic edamame puffs which were crunchy and pretty delicious. I believe they were supposed to be a cheesy flavor, but I didn’t get a lot of that. They had a nice satisfying crunch! What made them better was alternating them with the next snack we found…

20180415_152552

These cauliflower puffs which were vegan and apparently had probiotics. These were super light and pretty similar to Cheetos puffs (not in flavor, just in texture). Honestly, they may even be lighter than the Cheetos. These were great and as I mentioned if you made your own snack mix with the edamame puffs and cauli puffs you basically get a delicious supersnack ๐Ÿ˜‰

20180415_152540

We would not be us if we did not get ice-cream and when we found this PB marshmallow crunch we couldn’t resist. The ice-cream is good, but not great. It had great peanut butter flavor, but no marshmallowiness at all ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

IMG-20180418-WA0021

20180415_124128

After all this shopping we worked up a good appetite and decided to share a slice of bbq chicken pizza, some cauliflower wings, and watermelon kombucha. The ‘buch was delicious! I loved this watermelon flavor (side note: the mango flavor is great too). I thought the pizza was okay, but the hubs really loved it. The cauli wings were so yummy and crispy and pretty flavorful. I was impressed!

Pre-Hawaii

I probably should have done this post before the Hawaii posts, but who cares about chronological order? AmIright??

We had a couple of days off together before our trip and we decided to make the most of it by doing some exploring and some eating. I thought I would share some of those pics with you just for the fun of it!

We’ve really been loving Mendocino so we came back for the Study of Heat and Veggie burger

We never can resist a good frozen treat and these were…well bae ๐Ÿ˜‰

We discovered JJ’s bakery before this trip and if you get ANYTHING from this place check out their mochi cake cream creations. I don’t even know what they’re called other than amazing!

Maui Day 3

I hope you guys are really loving the inventive titles for the Maui Series—it took a lot of thinking to come up with them ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anywhooo welcome to Day 3! Day 3 was one of my favorites, but I won’t lie it wasn’t the best for food. We decided to do the road to Hana this day and it was such a fun adventure. I highly recommend this if you ever come to Maui!

IMG-20180114-WA0018

We (by we I mean hubs) had read spots (mile markers) that were worth stopping at and that guided us through our drive.

It was a rainy day so it kept raining on and off so we would put the top on the car down and then a few minutes later be putting it up. The road in general was windy so if you are prone to getting car sick/motion sick just be aware!

Our morning started with a trip to get gas (fill up before you get going so you don’t get stuck), the ATM (you need cash for the road to Hana-nobody takes credit) and coffee (we needed fuel too)

Our first stop was pretty soon after where we went on a mini hike to discover the beautiful Twin Falls. It wasn’t super crowded yet-maybe due to it being early still or the rain. Either way it was so peaceful! On our way out we picked up some pineapple to munch on from the fruit stand.

IMG-20180114-WA0015

IMG-20180114-WA0016

After this we missed a couple of stops intentionally because of the rain…

We drove on and made another stop at the Half Way to Hana stand that is supposed to be famous for their banana bread. I can honestly see why because it was some of the best banana bread I have had. It was even still warm!

IMG-20180114-WA0019

The sun came out for a little bit in perfect timing for our next stop and mini hike. This waterfall was also beautiful, but there was quite a bit more people here than the first.

We stopped at Nahiku Marketplace for lunch and got some fish tacos and coconut shrimp and chips. I will not lie this was really just okay. I would definitely not make this stop if we did this again!

IMG-20180114-WA0021

We couldn’t resist checking out the Hana Lava Tube at mile marker 31. I think we paid $12 per person to go check it out. They give you flashlights so you can see in the pitch black cave. It was a cool experience. They have it set up with handrails to guide you and little blurbs along the way about the cave.

IMG-20180114-WA0023

Bit of light peaking through a hole in the roof of the cave

If you are interested they have a garden maze which we didn’t stick around for because it was raining!

Our next stop was at Wai’anapanapa State Park (mile marker 32). We came here for black sand beach, but there’s so much more than that. It’s a state park and if you have a permit you can camp out.

IMG-20180114-WA0024

We did not camp out but we did some hiking to and around black sand beach. It rained the whole time, but the views and experience were worth getting completely soaked. Wai’anapanapa was our absolute favorite part of the whole trip!

IMG-20180114-WA0025

After this we took the road to Hana all the way around (we wanted the whole experience) till we got home. I would recommend doing this instead of turning back around. The views are breath taking!

20180107_163411

20180107_163914

This road-trip took the whole day and by the time we got back to Paia we were tired and ready for some food! We found a pizza place on Yelp, Flatbread Company, and decided to give it a go. We got their organic salad plus a pizza to share. Half Jay’s Heart (cheese pizza) and half Pele Pesto (pesto made with macadamia, cheese, veggies).

IMG-20180114-WA0027

IMG-20180114-WA0052

We also felt after a day full of hiking and activity we should try out Paia Gelato. This was an absolute dream! The gelato was creamy and each flavor was so true to what it was supposed to be! I’m drooling thinking about it…

IMG-20180114-WA0057

Look at this cute little light switch cover!

IMG-20180114-WA0058

We ended up going in Kahului and checking out some stores after this, but other than that we called it a night!

Oh the food we will eat…Vito’s

If you have read my blogs or know me or the hubs at all you will know we have a serious love for NY style pizza. In fact, when we finally get to go to NY and have a slice tears may be shed from sheer excitement.

IMG-20171125-WA0127

Yes, in this house we do fan-girl over pizza-don’t judge!

During a recent excursion we were looking for a pizza by the slice spot and found Vito’s. It had to have been divine intervention because we almost missed it on Yelp, but thankfully we caught ourselves.

IMG-20171122-WA0002

When you walk in you just smell pizza-the dough, the sauce. Then you see the display case filled with these huge NYC pies and you just know it’s going to be everything you dreamed of and more.

The first time (yes first) we got a slice of margh and a cheese. They warmed it up and we gobbled it down. We burned our mouths, but it was worth it.

IMG-20171125-WA0128

The crust was crispy and slightly charred, but still remained chewy. The sauce and cheese ratio was amazing. The bubbly cheese was stringy, salty, and flavorful.

IMG-20171125-WA0131

I know I tell you all the time that you know we love (and I mean LOVE) a place when we go back. Well, we went back the next day. It was that good. We just couldn’t stop thinking about it.

IMG-20171125-WA0046

This time we got a box of cheese and scarfed down 2 (or was it 3?) in the car because we couldn’t wait to get home. I think that says a lot about Vito’s pizzas. If you love NY style pizza and live in LA let me know if you’ve tried Vito’s and if you haven’t try it and let me know what you think.

Are you NY pizza person or do you prefer something else? Let me know!

Midici and Paradise Ice-Cream

I know you guys have heard me rave more than once about how delicious Midici is and that hasn’t changed. We decided to grab dinner there and ended up getting a smoked salmon salad and our usual margarita pizza.

20170909_190613_1505018669412

The smoked salmon salad was amazing! It had avocado, olives, greens, and feta and it honestly could have been a meal in itself.

20170909_195147_1505018668356

The pizza…delicious as always!

20170909_200910_1505018635733

Now on to the part that I am very excited about ๐Ÿ˜€ On our way to Midic I spotted this little ice-cream shop. We had a bit of wait at Midici and the whole time I was plotting to go and check out aforementioned ice-cream shop…

Lord Almighty! This place was amazing!! They make their flavors everyday and the store owners are as sweet as the ice-cream they sell. I ended up getting chocolate hazelnut and the hubs got cookies and cream and stracciatella. It was so creamy and the flavor was on point!

20170909_202930_1505018634489

I feel like this is going to become a regular thing now…Midici and Paradise Ice-Cream, but it’s all balanced out by that salad we had so it’s okay ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hello Fresh: Chicken Sausage Pizza

Welcome back to another meal ๐Ÿ™‚ Today I am reviewing the pizza that we got through Hello Fresh.

20170812_151320

In the process of washing the produce and prepping the ingredients…

I was not super excited about this one because I am not a sausage fan in general, but our last meal was super delicious so I came into it with an open mind.

This dish had a pre-made crust, zucchini (to be roasted), sausage (obviously), shredded mozz, and crushed tomatoes. It also had some fresh oregano which was so deliciously fragrant!

Prep was even more minimal with this meal than the bbq chicken dish so that was a plus. I do find chopping veggies to be soothing, but some days I’m starving and don’t have the time (or patience) to do all that work.

20170812_183830_1502633206185

Zucchini roasted and pizza about to be topped and baked!

We also ended up making a side salad to go with this dish since it had only the pizza for your meal. Besides that, we do try to have a side of veggies with whatever meal we have so making a salad was a great way to boost our veggie intake ๐Ÿ™‚

The pizza (which was actually more of a flat bread) was good. The roasted zucchini, tomatoes, and sausage paired very nicely to create variance in texture and flavor.

20170812_185822_1502633205853

The final product (we didn’t even slice the flatbread) ๐Ÿ™‚

I would give this pizza a 4 out of 5 flatbreads. It was good and I would recommend, but I wouldn’t get this particular recipe again.

That’s it for this post! Stay tuned for the final meal we got next Monday ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a lovely week!
