Hello Fresh

Hello friends! Happy Monday!!

20170811_171322_1502633313857

I know it probably sounds crazy, but we decided to try yet another meal subscription plan. I don’t know if we just had high expectations, but Blue Apron just didn’t blow us away so we opted out and went on the hunt for another box.

We saw many good reviews for this one and decided to go for it. Right off the bat during the ordering process we weren’t super excited about any of the meal options, but decided to go ahead and give them a fair chance.

We picked a chicken dish, pizza, and burger and it all came to our house in a nice little box. Everything was packaged, insulated, and iced appropriately.

I liked that they had all the ingredients for each dish in it’s own bag so you didn’t have to even take time to sort out what went with what.

20170811_171520_1502633277819

There were recipe cards for each dish and a completely different card for the nutrition facts. They included nutrition facts for ALL the meals that were available that week-not just the ones that we ordered.

I’m planning on posting reviews for all the dishes like I did with Blue Apron so I hope you’ll come along for our food journey!

We’re total newbs to the whole meal subscription thing so let us know if you have a favorite or if you have any thoughts about Hello Fresh.

Day In the Life+Full Day of Eating

I know that I tend to write about trips, adventures, and eating out, but, friends, that is not a full picture of my day to day. Both the hubs and I work full time so there are days where we are at work all day and then, sadly enough, days when we’re off by ourselves.

Today, I thought I would bring you along on a day where I am home alone! Usually these types of days go depending on what errands need to be run and what tasks absolutely need to get done that day.

20170809_094745

The Island Coconut by Green Mountain is the current fave

I always start my morning off with coffee and catch up on emails while sipping up all the goodness 🙂 I think my favorite part has been picking out my daily cup. I also like to spend this time figuring out what I want/need to do and having a general idea of when/how I should go about doing the things.

If you know me you know that I wake up hungry so an hour into scheduling and emailing and I am VERY ready for breakfast!

20170801_094633

Seasoned with turmeric, black pep, Himalayan pink, and chili flakes for some heat 😉

I actually mixed up some cruciferous mix (Trader Joe’s) and ended up scrambling this beautiful egg and throwing it all into a tortilla with shredded cheddar. This has been a great way to get in some extra veg and start my morning off strong

After breakfast is when I will start writing blog posts, looking through pics for post inspiration, and reading all of your lovely blogs 🙂

Lunch time rolls around and on this day I wasn’t feeling too hungry so I sautéed tofu and threw it over some spinach topped with this new feta dill dressing. It was delicious, light, and just what I needed.

20170801_142557

I did end up having a few of these pita chips with it because they just taste so good…

20170801_142648

I’ve been on a watermelon kick so that ended up being “dessert”

20170809_094643

On this day it was a fun surprise because the hubs had an early day and got to come home so we ended up running some errands together (grocery stores and a bakery).

We had a fun impromptu date night and went to see Baby Driver and grab dinner out. The movie was good, but not what I was expecting. If you’ve seen it let me know what you thought!

20170801_192306_1502303134632

It’s a bit hard to see, but check out this double rainbow we saw after the movies…so pretty!

Dinner was at Urban Plates. It was like a cafeteria type set up-we got the “plates” which includes a protein, two sides, and a piece of bread.

I went with salmon, mashed potatoes (so good!), and broccolini

20170801_184511

The hubs had chicken, cucumber/tomato/mozz salad, and squash in tomato sauce. The squash was seriously amazing. Perfectly cooked and so savory!

20170801_184532

The bakery I mentioned earlier on our errand run was Nothing Bundt Cakes. They had a new confetti cake flavor and I had to try it! It ended up being so. so. good. and the perfect  sweet treat to end the day.

We always like to end our days with a sitcom of some kind-Big Bang and Happy Endings are two that we’ve been really enjoying!

I know it wasn’t the most exciting day in the life post, but I wanted to share a more typical type day in my life. I hope you guys enjoyed and please let me know what you thought about the post!

Guest Post: FDOE with the Hubs

Hey again!

The hubs here, back for another guest post! Jess is letting me write about aaanything I want so here’s what I chose:

Food 🙂

Was that too obvious? Probably. But what about food specifically?

I always find these “full days of eating” pretty tasteful (pun intended) and sometimes even inspiring, so that’s what I’m going to do. Come along and join me for a few meals today!

Breakfast. 8:00 AM.. “The most important meal of the day.” Or as I like to think of it, “the meal I skip so I can eat more later.”

Don’t get me wrong, breakfast food is DELICIOUS. Pancakes. Eggs. Syrup. Biscuits. Gravy. Aka, noms-town. But. I feel much more awake and alert when I have an empty stomach in the morning. So instead of food, I drink a tall glass of agua followed by either a cup of iced coffee or another caffeinated beverage.

Nutrients:

Agua – hydration

Beverage – 120 mg caffeine

Lunch. 12:30 PM. Thanks coffee, you’ve done your job. Food can take over from here.

I approach lunch with the same mindset as breakfast: keep it light. Too much food causes me to be tired, too little is going to leave me hungry.

We have a cafeteria at work that stocks these delicious little chicken hummus wraps. They weigh in at only 300 calories. Dip that in some sriracha and MMM. Taste buds are happy. In addition to that, I grab some greens from the salad bar to fill me up. And for dessert, either a protein bar or some fruit.

Pre-workout meal. 4:30 PM. A little high carb snack at the end of my work day to fuel my workout.

Usually a good apple or piece of citrus fruit does the job here. Quick, portable, minimal mess, and tasty. My favorite – Fuji or Honeycrisp apple.

Post-workout meal. 6:30 PM. Something to hold me over before dinner.

I used to believe in something called the “anabolic window,” which was a period of time after a workout when you had to eat a meal high in protein to avoid letting your workout go to waste. It has since been proven false, but I’ll be the first to admit that I followed that advice religiously. Now, I just drink a protein shake before I jump in the shower to give me a bit of energy and help meet my protein needs for the day.

My go-to protein = Physique Enhancing Science (PES) Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. A couple scoops of this with 8 ounces of almond milk and 8 ounces of cold water is the perfect consistency.

Dinner. 8:30 PM. Time to EAT.

This is obviously my favorite meal of the day. I get to relax at home with Jess, talk, and maybe watch a couple shows. What I choose to eat totally depends on my mood but I have a few staples I usually choose from. These include a Mexican-style burrito, Mediterranean-style wrap, teriyaki bowl, and a few others. Here’s one of my favorites. A teriyaki chicken plate from a hole in the wall that Jess and I found one night while desperately searching for a teriyaki joint.

– 5 grams of fiber

– 70 grams of protein

Dessert. 9:00 PM. Okay, I lied. THIS is my favorite meal.

Where were Ben & Jerry when Galileo and Newton were writing the laws of physics? I bet if they were around, B&J would demand a law that went something like this: “One may eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream every night without gaining an ounce of fat.” Now that’s my kind of physics.

Instead, I’ve found a brand that gets the job done pretty well. It’s called Halo Top and you can get any flavor for under 400 calories. My favorites include the Red Velvet, Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter, and Birthday Cake. I throw a dollop of Cool Whip on top and I’m set.

Thanks for joining me for a day of eating! I hope you were able to garner some inspiration from these meals.

Until next time!
