Meals and snacks

Happy Thursday my friends!

I mentioned a few posts ago that I’ve been in a more snacky mood recently which has been fun, but I’ve also had to reign it in to make sure I get my colors and protein.

To be completely honest I probably do a pretty okay job at getting in my protein, but I do what I can and don’t stress too much about it. I’m great at eating veggies and fruit so the colors part is a little easier for me πŸ™‚

This was a yummy breakfast one day when I wanted something simple. I did eat half a plate of spinach before this while deciding on what to make for breakfast! Eggs, sourdough toast, and tomatoes noms!

Boom Chicka Pop has my heart with this sweet and salty kettle corn. I LOVE this stuff and have gone through more bags then I can count. If you haven’t tried it, you absolutely need to! It is crack!

We had lunch out one day and I got Panera’s pick two while the hubby got a bowl from Cava. I picked the chicken frontega and cobb salad and both were yummy. I definitely did not finish everything and had leftover salad later that day as a snack πŸ™‚

Okay, so I constantly hear about these Mary’s crackers and I always go back and forth about trying them because to be completely honest I don’t know how I feel about paying $5 for a box of crackers! Recently, though I have been huge into cheese and crackers (going back to the snacking) and have been loving trying new ones out. These were on sale for $3 so I figured I would give them a shot and boy am I glad I did! They are nutty and crunchy and so good!

I’ve been eating them with guac, cheddar, brie, hummus, and just straight outta the box. They are so yummy!

20181220_131101

Speaking of brie (and cheese and crackers), I’ve been loving these little individual brie bites from TJ’s. I like that they are portioned out and easy to eat. They are super creamy and delicious!

20181221_114739

This meal is a perfect example of my recent snacky meals. I could eat this and then have grapes for dessert and be perfectly content. I want to say I would be content forever, but we all know that, that would be a BIG lie and I will be onto something else right after this post comes out πŸ˜…

This next item could be a snack or a dessert or your snacky dessert? I don’t know, but it is pretty darn good! These are a Costco find-Greek yogurt bars coated in dark chocolate. The chocolate is actually really creamy and not bitter like in most dark chocolate. The yogurt part inside is like the texture of soft ice-cream, but thicker. It is a little tart, but enjoyable. They go in your fridge so the texture stays consistent!

Both hubs and I have both been enjoying these. They are pretty small, but I am good with half of one usually. Right now, I prefer the vanilla over the strawberry, but that will probably change soon!

20181220_110133

This post has been long enough I think so I will cut it off there! I will see you lovelies Monday with another post, but meanwhile let me know what your favorite snacks are and if you’re eating has changed in the New Β Year. Till next time!

Recent Eats

Hey sweet people!

I am excited to share with you some meals I have on my phone that I haven’t shared in any of the other blog posts. These are meals I probably captured with the intention of having a full day of eating, but it didn’t happen #badfoodblogger

We had some delicious sushi at Sushi Enya with some friends. Sadly, we only got pics of a couple of rolls and these were actually captured by hubby I think. After this we were so busy eating and talking that few pictures were taken. Oops!

One Sunday after a mediocre brunch we decided to cook at home. We thought about it and decided on steak and cauli. The hubs made a gorgeous steak and I roasted up the cauliflower for a pretty simple but tasty dish!

20180916_170958

I usually prefer a savory breakfast, but always need something sweet after–usually fruit. I decided to skip breakfast dessert and just have something sweet for breakfast by way of these gluten free banana pancakes. I know I’ve posted about these and they are quick, yummy, and filling.

20180917_100258

This delicious looking salmon was our dinner one weeknight that I was off. It was a fun dish to create and lovely to look at too!

20180918_180848

We did go back to Malibu Farm Pier Cafe and get some brunch which was a little underwhelming compared to their lunch, but I was too hungry to go anywhere else. I got this salmon hash dish and hubby got an open brussels sprout omelette.

20180916_114654

Those are all the random dishes I have for today! I’m sure I will have more in the coming weeks πŸ™‚ Have a fantastic Thursday!

Meals with Friends: Sage

This is a little mini series I am currently doing that has to do with some fun eating we’ve been doing with friends. Here is post one and post two.

20180715_140534

Out of the three restaurants that we had been to this one may have been my favorite! It was all vegan errything and it was amazing.

This restaurant was picked by the friends we went to lunch with and hats off to them because Sage was everything I wanted/needed and more.

They had kombucha on tap so we got a glass to share between the hubs and I.

20180715_140337

We also ordered some nachos for the table so we could munch over the menu. These nachos were made with delicious, fresh tortilla chips, jackfruit (as the meat), pickled veggies, guac, and cashew cheese. Everything about this was incredible and delicious and so satisfying.

20180715_140332

It was crunchy, creamy, spicy-ugh I want another plate now!

For our main we shared the breakfast burrito which came with beans, rice, tofu scramble, avocado, and potatoes. This was seriously so hearty and filling and perfect.

20180715_140529

Again, we did not have dessert here…this seems to be a common theme with us! But due to the heat we had a cone and Mcflurry from Mickey D’s! Also somehow didn’t get a pic of this…bad blogger!

What are some of your favorite vegan spots?

Meals with Friends: Badmaash

This is post 2 in my mini series of Meals with Friends. If you want to read the first one then feel free to go here.

The hubs and I heard about Badmaash a LONG time ago. We’ve been wanting to come since then, but timing would never work out or we weren’t feeling Indian.

20180714_184856

When a friend hit me up to go to Badmaash specifically we knew this was the perfect time to make the leap and go for it. Badmaash is Indian with a modern twist. The restaurant is small, but well designed.

It was pretty warm in there when we went, but we had food and a friend so we were content.

We started with both types of samosas-butter chicken and veggie. They were known for the butter chicken and it was the favorite of the two, but I think it would be impossible to Β go wrong with either.

20180714_183003

One is fried dough with curried chicken stuffed in it and the other is stuffed with spice filled vegetables-that’s winning in my book.

We also got the tandoor chicken which came with these beautiful pickled radishes and onions. The chicken was charred to perfection-savory and juicy.

20180714_184844

We also got the butter chicken curry and naan to go with it. It was slightly sweet, savory, and had a lot warming spices. The naan was fresh and hot and I love that slight burnt taste too πŸ™‚

20180714_184816

Even though all the desserts were enticing we had dessert planned prior to this and decided to go to SK Donuts and try their new Creme BrΓ»lΓ©e donut.

20180714_195800

Obviously we had to get some of our usual favorite as well…

If you live in SoCal have you tried Badmaash? What did you think??

Random Foods I’m Loving

I’ve been loving a lot lately and I know from this blog you know how much I love food so here are some foods I’ve been really enjoying!

These snap pea crisps are light, crunchy and delicious. I like that they have a little bit of protein in them and they really satisfy my crunch tooth πŸ˜‰

20180717_150326

Speaking of crunchy things these plantain chips are not filled with protein, but they are savory and delicious. These have been my favorite flavor recently!

20180717_150303

This jackfruit curry from Trader Joe’s has been hitting the spot when I need a meal I don’t need to think about. It is spicy and flavorful!

20180717_150400

I just can’t seem to get enough of s’mores this summer and so I keep eating them and eating them…

20180717_150554

Last, but not least the roasted potatoes from TJ’s has been my go to for breakfasts. I’ve been making breakfast burritos every morning and these are the perfect addition to them!

20180717_150438

Obviously this isn’t all the food I’ve been eating or enjoying, but these are some of my more recent favorite finds (minus the s’mores) so I wanted to share! I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know what foods you’ve been enjoying this summer!

Meals with Friends-Joey

How are things in your neck of the woods? Also, how did “neck of the woods” become a thing?

Over here we’ve been little social butterflies and having all the meals with some peeps we just love. Because of that we’ve been eating at some new, some old, but all delicious places so I thought it would be fun to share in a mini-series called Meals with Friends.

Super orig. I know…let’s just get on with the socializing and eating, yeah?

You know how much I love Joey so it seemed like a good place to gather some friends to eat some good food and hang out.

We app’d it up with some wings (freaking crunchy, savory goodness)Β and some lettuce wraps (fresh and sweet). Sadly no pictures of it…oops!

I won’t lie I felt super torn about what to get for dinner, but ended up ordering this bbq salmon bowl. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The bbq sauce wasn’t over bearing and super sweet which I liked. It came with some steamed (?) veggies and brown rice.

20180713_200613

The hubs also had some difficult food choices, but he settled on the Farmer’s Chopped Chicken salad. We shared both things and I really enjoyed the salad. It was fresh and the chicken added heartiness to make it feel like a meal.

20180713_200625

We were too full for dessert, but later that night the hubs and I did try out some new ice-creams πŸ˜€

20180713_115910

T’was a lovely night and any meal shared with loved ones is a great meal πŸ™‚ What are your favorite go-to places for dinner with friends? Do you have a usual spot or do you like to try new places?

Let me know in the comments below! See you next time!!

A true brunch

I feel like I’ve posted on here about Leo & Lily’s a few times, but it’s definitely one of our favorite go to spots for any meal, but especially brunch.

We came one Saturday for brunch and then I made a rash decision to have a sandwich from their lunch section. Major shocker! But isn’t that what brunch is about? Combining lunch and breakfast and making it one beautiful delicious meal?

I ended up getting the pastrami sandwich and it was amazing, but I could only finish half of it along with all of my side salad. Β We did end up eating the rest late night though so that was a nice treat πŸ™‚

20180714_123516

To keep up with the breakfast side of things the hubs stuck with the breakfast section and got his usual egg white frittata that he loves!

20180714_123536

I love that there is something for everyone here! It’s seriously great food-I’ve never had anything bad here and it’s such a super cute spot to bring friends, family, a date πŸ˜‰

What is your go-to brunch place?

Vegetarian FDOE

I may have said this before but I love reading/watching full day of eating blogs/vlogs. They are just fun and it always gives me ideas for meals!

I had no idea that this was going to be a vegetarian post to be completely honest, but this is a pretty typical day of eating for me when I am at home.

For breakfast I made some yummy tacos with roasted potatoes, eggs, and salsa. Side spinach always!

20171203_105512

Lunch was this nommy grilled cheese on sourdough. I actually ended up eating spinach straight outta the bag while this was cooking because I was so hungry so don’t be alarmed by the lack of green πŸ™‚

20171203_143354

When it’s winter you will find us snacking on cuties because they are in fact cute and also delicious!

20171220_121434

Dinner was most delicious with this mashup of Gardein multigrain ‘chicken’ strips, Brazilian cheese bread, baby carrots, and of course spinach! I had some guac on the side for dipping…

20171219_134229

Dessert was this flan that the hubs surprised me with! It was from a local Mexican grocery store and man was it good.

20171207_144719-1

I love reading FDOE, but what do you guys enjoy reading? Let me know!

Eats in a Bowl

We bought some bowls recently and I can’t help but keep using them for every. single. thing. They are the perfect size for my meals and they keep everything contained. Not to mention that I love (like LOVE) bowl food πŸ™‚

I’ve been pretty basic with this bowl breakfast: a simple avo toast topped with an over-easy egg!

20171106_092511

This meal was left over Fuji apple chicken salad from Panera. My husband got me hooked on this many years ago and it’s just freaking amazing…the apples are sweet and crunchy and perfection πŸ™‚

20171109_130950

Here is a delicious bowl of pasta and greens:

20171022_171134

Last, but not least this meal in a bowl ended up being this blurry pic of a bean and cheese quesadilla with roasted potatoes and spinach. Mostly it was just random bits of things I needed to use up!

20171117_154943

Do you have a favorite plate/bowl/dish to eat in? How do you feel about bowl food? Let me know in the comments!

Blackened Salmon Sandwich

The first dish we decided to make from Plated was the (you guessed it) the blackened salmon sandwich. This dish combines my love of delicious carb (the bread) with anything blackened and seafood.

20170831_120821

I really loved the fact that this sandwich came with a salad (they call it a slaw) so no extra prep was needed for a side…in fact, I believe that most of the dishes we got comes with a side built in…already winning!

20170831_180727

The sandwich contained the salmon, remoulade made of capers, pickles, and mayo, and topped with dinosaur kale and fennel slaw for a fresh kick.

20170831_181206

It was definitely one of my favorite dishes we have made at home to date. It was savory and fresh and super filling. I enjoyed how well the flavors melded together and the buns held together nicely.

20170831_181337

This was a 5 star dish in my opinion and I would definitely pick this dish to make again!
