Random eats and a fruit haul

I really enjoy doing a recap of our meals because it takes me back to those days and gives me all the mems.

Like this turkey and hummus pita with shrettuce and pickles. I remember being so hungry and eating quite a few carrots while making this.

We visited Mendocino for lunch one day and shared a couple of sandwiches with these amazing spicy chips.

Once a week salmon saga continues with baked salmon and roasted carrots…

My favorite thing at Denny’s used to be the Fit Fare Sizzlin’ Egg Skillet, but it is now this veggie omelet. I got it without cheese and a side of steamed brocc.

The hashbrowns that it came with were so crispy and went perfectly with the soft eggs. Side of turkey bacon…all of the proteins!

One particular night we had a little bit of leftover ground beef so we made burgers and had chips on the side.

I was super proud of us this night because we used up our last two potato buns and leftover shrettuce. It is so satisfying to use things up!

I don’t know if it could be considered a fruit “haul” but we have been eating a lot of fruit lately.

It started from a walk to our Farmer’s Market where we got three pints of strawberries and some mandarins.

I don’t think it’s berry season, but these were the most yummy strawberries. The mandarins were juicy and sweet. Omg I could have just eaten pints and pints of those strawberries!

We visited Sprout’s and found these golden kiwis. I had been wanting to try them and I am so glad we did! These kiwis were so sweet and as promised golden on the inside. Love, love, love!

Mangoes were another fruit that I was certain would not be good right now, but ended up being delectable. It was so sweet and reminded me why I don’t need any other dessert when I have a good mango.

Do you guys feel this way about fruit? If the fruit is good enough and sweet enough I don’t need anything else to curb my sweet tooth.

Thanks for reading friends! See you next time!

Mangoes Galore

I mentioned mango on my favorites list Monday, but I realized I didn’t know too much more about them other than the fact they are delicious!

20190802_103124

A quick google search though taught me a few things about the fruit I absolutely adore…like did you know that mangoes are a good source of antioxidants? I didn’t, but now that I do…well it doesn’t change much to be honest because I would have eaten them regardless of their antioxidant benefits 😉

They are also great at helping you digest food and keeping you regular from all the yummy fiber. Mangoes are pretty juicy too so between the fiber and hydration constipation should not be an issue (sorrynotsorry the nurse in me always comes out)

It is high in vitamin C which is great for your skin and I am a huge fan of eating my way into good health and good skin! Apparently while the fruit is young, green, and growing it is high in vitamin C and when it is fully ripe it is higher in vitamin A…

Something that tastes like dessert and is good for you? Sign me up! Are you mango lovers? Let me know in the comments!

Snacks I’ve been loving

The snacks I love change a lot, not because I stop loving something but because I find something else or my cravings change.

During the summer I love fresh fruits and cold, crisp veggies while fall and winter I prefer warmer more comforting things like hot cocoa or a small bowl of soup.

Recently my snacks have been leaning more towards the sweet side since my cravings have been more on the sweet side.

I’ve been eating fruits like grapes, berries, and these yummy figs. I love the crunch of the seeds that are inside and the beautiful mild sweet flavor.

Dark chocolate almonds help satiate my sweet tooth and keep me full a little longer with a little protein punch.

This last item is more of a dessert snack (whatever that means). I found these wafer cookies at Eataly and they were on sale. I got a vanilla and hazelnut flavor-LOVE both. They are light not overly sweet.

Are you a snacker? What’s your favorite thing to munch on?

When in Hollywood…

Do the Hollywood Hike?!?!? Or maybe it was when in Hollywood eat some Japanese pancakes? No? Just me?!

We woke up bright and early to do the Hollywood Hike which despite lack of motivation at the beginning ended up being quite rewarding. It’s a steady up hill climb, but nothing crazy.

20180504_093009

After having hiked we build up a nice appetite and found a sweet little brunch spot at WKNDR.

20180504_120941

We ordered the chicken sandwich, like we do.

20180504_120922

Then we ordered the Japanese pancakes and my life was changed.

20180504_120916

The chicken sandwich was a good chicken sandwich-crispy chicken, soft bread, etc. But the pancakes were literally like eating cake. It was moist and once drizzled with syrup they were sweet and amazing!

Post brunch dessert ended up being a walk with some fruit cart fruit. It was tangy and salty and sweet-a perfect little ending to a sweet little brunch 🙂

Have you tried Japanese pancakes? What did you think??

Fruit Favorites

I LOVE fruit, I love everything about it. The sweetness, the different textures, even the smell…hi, I’m Jess, the crazy fruit lady.

And when it’s summer time I crave watermelons and mangoes and grapes. To me, summer is not complete until I have eaten a store full of watermelon!

20161103_111345

That being said, I have had no good mangoes this season and it’s slightly heartbreaking so I’ve been burying my sadness into bowls of grapes.

If you haven’t already guessed watermelon ranks pretty high on this list of favorites. It’s juicy and sweet and it has a lot of health benefits. It is high in vitamin C, it’s shown to improve eye health, decrease inflammation, hydrating so on and so forth, but I eat it because it’s delicious!

Bananas are a year-round fruit for me-they are great toppers for toast, waffles, yogurt, overnight oats. They stand alone or go wonderfully with some nut butter. Whatever way you slice them they are a tasty treat (I sound like a commercial, but I promise this is not a #spons 😉 )

20170806_134158

I love grapes, especially (mostly) red ones, but I saw these champagne grapes and wanted to try them after reading this post on Become Betty. Mine were green and a little tart, but still cute and yummy!

Lychee is a totally new fruit for me, but I am super happy I spotted them at a grocery store. They are sweet and mildly flavored, unusually addictive. The only way I can describe it is if you have ever peeled the skin off of a grape and eaten it-it’s that texture, but smoother…Does that make sense?!

All my lychee eaters and experts let me know if my description sounds right. I hope you lovelies have a wonderful Friday 🙂
