What we did this weekend

Any weekend with the hubs is a great weekend, but this weekend we had some fun plans! We kicked off the weekend by having an early lunch with our friends and their sweet two babies (basically, our favorite peeps).

We met at a sandwich shop, Fiore, they had been hyping up and it ended up being everything and more. They make their own bread and ohmy were these sammies incredible.

We split a short rib and a chicken pesto-loved both, would recommend both. I’m so hungry as I write this and so jealous of my past weekend self I can’t even handle it!

Since we were so close by we had to get Colorado Donuts for dessert later. We wanted to try them out again and see how they compared to our favorite SK Donuts.

20190223_111818

We did a Costco run after lunch and had very good intentions of taking a quick nap and working out, but sadly the workout never happened. We did take a long nap and wake up with a donut hankering.

Lucky for us we had some waiting downstairs for us!

After trying out the donuts we went for a walk around the neighborhood before getting ready and heading out for a show at Upright Citizens Brigade.

20190223_190206

This is something we had been wanting to do since we both love comedy/improv shows so much and we were incredibly excited to finally go. It was a great show and a lot of fun to watch and I know we will be heading back for more laughs!

After all the laughs we (I) was hungry and ready for dinner so we found ourselves at Katsu-ya for sushi. I don’t know what happened but my phone camera started acting up and so the next couple of pictures are the only ones I have of our dinner.

Sunday started off strong with a workout and this yummy breakfast that B made us. Egg and cheese sandwiches!

20190224_120937

We prepped meals for the week and watched Netflix until dinner where we picked up sushi. We also picked up a cookie from Bristol Farm’s and this slice of banana chocolate chip cake from Susie Cake.

It was quite the decadent dinner and a wonderful end to our weekend! What did you guys do this past weekend?

Hollywood Bowl with John Williams

We have some pretty spectacular friends who offered us tickets to see John Williams conduct and how could we say no?!

We were trying to figure out dinner plans and we ended up deciding on dinner there. Dinner was a pleasant surprise and our musical evening was pretty spectacular.

20180906_134928

It was so cool to hear the music we hear on Star Wars and other movies played live. Steven Spielberg came around and showed us what a difference having music in a scene makes. It’s something I don’t think about often, but after this experience I will paying closer attention to how music in a scene makes me feel.

But before all of that, there was dinner πŸ™‚

We had salads…it was fresh and bright. The quinoa and lentils brought in some heartiness.

IMG-20180903-WA0001

B had short ribs which were fall off the bone tender. Seriously. You didn’t need a knife.

IMG-20180903-WA0004

I had chicken that had some seriously crispy skin. It was also massive!

IMG-20180903-WA0005

We shared some dessert. A chocolate torte and lemon bar. The torte was rich and deep in chocolatey flavor while the lemon bar was bright and fresh.

20180902_182644

Between the company, the food, and John Williams it was a pretty incredible evening. It was a great way to spend a Sunday night!

I hope you are all having a lovely week and I will see you Friday!

The time we went to Kansas City, Missouri

A few weeks ago hubs had a conference he needed to go to so I tagged along and we made it a little adventure πŸ™‚

We had to be on the plane by 7am so we woke up before the sun was even shining to make it on the plane. This meant I had time for coffee, but no food. Don’t worry friends before I could get hangry our plane landed in Denver and we had enough time to grab some breakfast.

This is where I had my first Einstein Bros bagel. I ordered an everything bagel with lox but got a plain bagel instead. I was a bit devastated, but I will say it was still pretty yummy! Bae had some greek yogurt with berries…

20180802_104501

We got back on the plane and headed to our final destination-Kansas City, Missouri. It was hot and a little humid when we got off the plane, but we decided to check in to our hotel and find some lunch.

We went to this little market close to the hotel and the hub and I shared a couple of sandwiches. We got a spicy turkey of some sort and I think the reuben.

IMG-20180807-WA0002

Both were yummy, but we both liked the turkey the best!

After this it was time for some conference stuff so we split up and I went to the hotel to get us kind of unpacked and organized for the weekend. I also had a chance to chill, hydrate, and freshen up for the night!

We had started asking everybody we saw including our Uber and Lyft drivers what their favorite bbq spot was. We got a few different answers, but a lot of it was between Gates’s, Q39, Joe’s, and Jack Stack. We knew there was no way we were going to be able to eat that much bbq in the 3 short days we were there, but we all decided to give it our all.

In that spirit we made Gate’s our first BBQ stop.

We were hungry and the employees at Gate’s got us super excited and we got the presidential platter which may have been a mistake.

It’s SO. MUCH. FOOD. Definitely, way too much food to split between 5 people-you need at least 10. It came with turkey, chicken, brisket, ribs, sausage and we got beans, coleslaw, and bread too.

I think the beef sausage was our favorite that night…it had a really great spice that I really enjoyed!

It was all delicious and so we ate and ate and I don’t think we even made a dent in that platter. We did we could and packed up the rest and gave it out to whoever was in need of some bbq!

IMG-20180804-WA0035

We ended up at Insomnia Cookie for dessert and it was pretty spectacular. We shared an ice-cream sandwich. We paired a white chocolate macadamia cookie and a chocolate chunk cookie along with birthday cake ice-cream to make a sweet, melty treat!

IMG-20180807-WA0000

We took a short walk around to check out the night life and stayed up well past any of our bedtimes. I think the hubs and I were in bed by 2am and we woke up around 6am the next day to workout, but that’s a story for next time πŸ™‚

See you then!

Meals with Friends: Sage

This is a little mini series I am currently doing that has to do with some fun eating we’ve been doing with friends. Here is post one and post two.

20180715_140534

Out of the three restaurants that we had been to this one may have been my favorite! It was all vegan errything and it was amazing.

This restaurant was picked by the friends we went to lunch with and hats off to them because Sage was everything I wanted/needed and more.

They had kombucha on tap so we got a glass to share between the hubs and I.

20180715_140337

We also ordered some nachos for the table so we could munch over the menu. These nachos were made with delicious, fresh tortilla chips, jackfruit (as the meat), pickled veggies, guac, and cashew cheese. Everything about this was incredible and delicious and so satisfying.

20180715_140332

It was crunchy, creamy, spicy-ugh I want another plate now!

For our main we shared the breakfast burrito which came with beans, rice, tofu scramble, avocado, and potatoes. This was seriously so hearty and filling and perfect.

20180715_140529

Again, we did not have dessert here…this seems to be a common theme with us! But due to the heat we had a cone and Mcflurry from Mickey D’s! Also somehow didn’t get a pic of this…bad blogger!

What are some of your favorite vegan spots?

Meals with Friends: Badmaash

This is post 2 in my mini series of Meals with Friends. If you want to read the first one then feel free to go here.

The hubs and I heard about Badmaash a LONG time ago. We’ve been wanting to come since then, but timing would never work out or we weren’t feeling Indian.

20180714_184856

When a friend hit me up to go to Badmaash specifically we knew this was the perfect time to make the leap and go for it. Badmaash is Indian with a modern twist. The restaurant is small, but well designed.

It was pretty warm in there when we went, but we had food and a friend so we were content.

We started with both types of samosas-butter chicken and veggie. They were known for the butter chicken and it was the favorite of the two, but I think it would be impossible to Β go wrong with either.

20180714_183003

One is fried dough with curried chicken stuffed in it and the other is stuffed with spice filled vegetables-that’s winning in my book.

We also got the tandoor chicken which came with these beautiful pickled radishes and onions. The chicken was charred to perfection-savory and juicy.

20180714_184844

We also got the butter chicken curry and naan to go with it. It was slightly sweet, savory, and had a lot warming spices. The naan was fresh and hot and I love that slight burnt taste too πŸ™‚

20180714_184816

Even though all the desserts were enticing we had dessert planned prior to this and decided to go to SK Donuts and try their new Creme BrΓ»lΓ©e donut.

20180714_195800

Obviously we had to get some of our usual favorite as well…

If you live in SoCal have you tried Badmaash? What did you think??

Meals with Friends-Joey

How are things in your neck of the woods? Also, how did “neck of the woods” become a thing?

Over here we’ve been little social butterflies and having all the meals with some peeps we just love. Because of that we’ve been eating at some new, some old, but all delicious places so I thought it would be fun to share in a mini-series called Meals with Friends.

Super orig. I know…let’s just get on with the socializing and eating, yeah?

You know how much I love Joey so it seemed like a good place to gather some friends to eat some good food and hang out.

We app’d it up with some wings (freaking crunchy, savory goodness)Β and some lettuce wraps (fresh and sweet). Sadly no pictures of it…oops!

I won’t lie I felt super torn about what to get for dinner, but ended up ordering this bbq salmon bowl. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The bbq sauce wasn’t over bearing and super sweet which I liked. It came with some steamed (?) veggies and brown rice.

20180713_200613

The hubs also had some difficult food choices, but he settled on the Farmer’s Chopped Chicken salad. We shared both things and I really enjoyed the salad. It was fresh and the chicken added heartiness to make it feel like a meal.

20180713_200625

We were too full for dessert, but later that night the hubs and I did try out some new ice-creams πŸ˜€

20180713_115910

T’was a lovely night and any meal shared with loved ones is a great meal πŸ™‚ What are your favorite go-to places for dinner with friends? Do you have a usual spot or do you like to try new places?

Let me know in the comments below! See you next time!!

Brunch at Ingo’s

My belief is that if you want to catch up with a friend it is best to do it with food and if it can be at brunch time that would be optimal πŸ˜€

Needless to say that this moment came to fruition so off to brunch we went at Ingo’s.

Our friend got a scramble and we shared the eggs benny and shakshuka.

We opted for crab with our eggs benny and it was rich, creamy and delicious.

20180506_115049

Shakshuka is a tomato based egg dish and was bright and flavorful.

20180506_115038

Post brunch we were needing something sweet to balance all those savory flavors so we decided to go to Sidecar.

I love Sidecar and I think they have some of the most delicious donuts ever.

We ended up with a box of 4: original glazed, old fashioned, Mexican hot chocolate, and a churro donut.

20180506_124448

The original glazed was fluffy and soft and melt in your mouth, the old fashioned had a good nutmeg flavor, but my favorite was the churro. The hubs loved the Mexican hot chocolate!
