What I Eat in a Day

Welcome to another What I Eat in a Day ๐Ÿ™‚ This is one from during the week. I tend to eat “cleaner” during the week and save my sweets and stuff for the weekend. I don’t do it on purpose and if I end up eating a cookie during the week it’s no biggie, but in my life it just works out that way and I’m pretty happy with it!

Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, potatoes, kale, tomatoes and a couple of pieces of smoked salmon. I’ve been hungrier recently so consciously adding a little extra protein here and there has been helping keep me fuller for a little longer!

20190319_103529

Lunch: Grilled chicken and cheese sammy on a protein bagel with kale and tomatoes, potatoes. I love to use up whatever veggies I make or have throughout the day. It saves me time and no waste!

20190319_133656

Dinner: Barilla protein pasta with sauce and cheese and roasted broccoli

20190319_181800

Dessert: Chocolate covered almonds. O.M.G are these so good and addictive! It’s great for that post dinner sweet tooth or if you need a chocolate fix.

V-Day Weekending

As much as I would have LOVED to get this post out on Monday life and work tend to get in the way of well intentioned plans soooo….here we are on Thursday talking about what the hubs and I got up to this past weekend!

I got a serious hankering for BJ’s buffalo chicken pizza on Friday so when B got home we compromised and got half buffalo chicken and half bbq chicken-we DEVOURED this pizza!

20190215_204533

Knowing how much I obsessed I am with food and how much I love dessert B had ordered some cookies for us from PDX Cookie Co. He ordered their variety pack which arrived just in time for our V-Day weekend! I am not kidding when I tell you these cookies were seriously packed with all the goodies and were super delicious…also, super incredible warmed up!

20190215_210328

Pizza and cookies=great start to any weekend? Amiright?

Saturday we woke up, had coffee, and headed to the gym! Post workout we had plans to head over to the mall and finally combine our phone plans to one carrier (we’ve been married for almost 3 years now-it was time). This is a task I had been dreading, but it went so smoothly that I kept talking about how easy and wonderful the process was.

After all this excitement we went home and I ate the lonely slice of BBQ chicken pizza that was left from Friday night ๐Ÿ™‚

The rest of the day was spend running errands, perusing through our favorite mall and figuring out what we should do for dinner. We had very well intentioned plans to have dinner at a Brazilian Steakhouse. I had made reservations in advance and we were really excited about the whole thing until we got to the day of the reservation. Suddenly, we wanted everything but steak…anybody else have this dilemma?

We went back and forth on a few options until deciding on Rosie’s BBQ. We ordered a beef rib each, their Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and a side of their baked fries. Sadly I got pictures of none of our dinner on Saturday night so I am very sorry about that ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Their was nothing Nashville hot about this chicken sandwich. It was a pretty sad chicken sandwich at that. It was this super thin chicken patty that had absolutely no spice. I turned to hubby and wondered if they had messed up our order…who knows?

The beef ribs were yummy per usual and the fries were the star of the show. They were fat wedge type fries which I normally do not like, but these were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They were seasoned so perfectly! LOVED these fries!

We had more cookies for dessert ๐Ÿ™‚

We woke up Sunday morning and did some grocery shopping for the week. We then took a brisk walk around our neighborhood since we were not planning on heading to the gym. Snacked a bit before heading out to a super late lunch/very early dinner situation with our friends.

Before meeting up with the friends we explored Olvera Street and Union Station. It was super cool to check out the vendors at Olvera Street. The sights and smells were incredible and overwhelming. I didn’t know where to look!

We made one last quick stop at Fugetsu Do for a couple of pieces of mochi. If you haven’t been here or tried their sweet creations you absolutely need to. Their mochi is so soft and incredible. We got a red bean and a blueberry ย mochi for dessert!

20190217_195215

I had been wanting to check out Bun Shop for a minute and figured this would be a good excuse to try out their baos. I had a spicy chicken bao and a beef bao. Hubs had the same and we shared some of their Yoshi fries.

20190217_164318

I definitely preferred the beef bao. It had a fried onion on top of it which added a nice crunchy texture to the soft meaty bun. I do wish the buns themselves held together a bit better-they were both split on the bottom which made it a little difficult to eat. The fries were really yummy with the addition of the furikake seasoning!

After spending a good amount of time catching up we all went our separate ways, but before the hubs and I went home we made one last stop at 85 Degrees. I think we both were craving the milk buns, but got a couple of other treats too ๐Ÿ™‚

20190217_185207

We made it home with time to watch some Netflix before bed! It wasn’t the most traditional V-Day weekend, but as long as we are spending time together we are pretty happy! I hope you all had a lovely V-Day weekend!!

What did you guys do this past weekend?

Meals Lately

I’ve been so busy posting about our trip, but that doesn’t mean that I have forgotten to take snaps of food we’ve been eating since being back home.

I won’t lie most of it is home food and I don’t know if that’s interesting to you guys, but that’s what I’ve been eating so that’s what I’ve taken pictures of ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s jump in!

This first meal was made in a hungry rush! I made a bean and cheese quesadilla and added an egg on top to make it “breakfast.” I feel like you could make anything “breakfast” if you add an egg to it-anyone else?

20181123_114607

Donuts for dessert are always highly appreciated in this household. We adore SK Donuts! They have such soft, fluffy yeast donuts and they have a good variety of cronuts too!

20181124_194457

This next meal was homemade burgers and fries! Such a simple meal, but so yummy ๐Ÿ˜‹

20181122_194649

We happened to be at Century City and I could feel my blood sugar crashing so we stopped by Eataly and I had half of this for a snack. It was a cacio e pepe pizza and it was E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

20181123_164751

Quick meals are the theme of this post because to me nothing cooks quicker then eggs and peppers…noms! 20181127_123856

This next meal is the same as the last except I used a tortilla as much delicious carb source ๐Ÿ˜…

20181201_102117

These apple chips were breakfast dessert one particularly ravenous day. I really enjoyed them! I don’t remember ever having apple chips other than in the Fuji apple chicken salad from Panera and I can say I am a fan!

20181123_120045

That’s all I have for today! What have you been eating lately?

Full Day of Eating on a Saturday

I am so excited to bring you guys along for a FDOE! This particular Saturday was especially delicious and filled with a lot of yummy treats ๐Ÿ˜!

IMG-20181006-WA0001

We started our day with a late brunch from Wake and Late. I got a carne asada, egg, cheese, avocado, pickled jalapeรฑo and potato burrito while the hubby got a egg white, spinach, pickled jalapeรฑo, onions, avocado, and red pepper burrito. They also grill the burrito after to make it nice and crunchy!

We both enjoyed our very filling burritos and needed something sweet ๐Ÿ™‚ we ended up sharing this nutella macaron from a random French bakery.

20181006_123548

We ended up going to Century City Mall to find a suit for hubby and while there we noticed that 85ยฐ Bakery was open. I could not not check it out you guys. That would have been a major food blogger sin, right?

I knew you would understand!

We got the honey cake, coconut roll, and milk bun. Nothing was super sweet, but everything was delicious! If you have one of these around I would definitely recommend checking it out.

20181006_143326

We didn’t eat it all and saved some for dinner dessert ๐Ÿ˜‰

We walked around the mall for a little while longer and then left. I was super tired and the hubs was too, I think, so we both napped. I honestly have no idea how long we were out for, but it wasn’t more than an hour?!

For dinner we had decided on wings from Big Al’s Pizzeria. We headed on over because it’s a little over an hour from where we live. I’m definitely glad we went when we did because it was packed in there, it took about an hour to get our food, and another hour to get back home with it.

We ended up getting the buffalo, the dragon, and the Jamaican. The dragon was the spiciest and the most flavorful. The Jamaican was sweet and sticky. The buffalo was a really rounded buffalo flavor-not too vinegary or too spicy.

20181006_205106

We really enjoyed the wings, but as always needed dessert. We snacked on chocolates, the rest of our 85ยฐ Bakery, and some grapes because #health.

20181006_213033

I hope you guys enjoyed this somewhat long post. Thanks for sticking around to read it all! I hope you’re having a great start to the week!!

Hollywood Bowl with John Williams

We have some pretty spectacular friends who offered us tickets to see John Williams conduct and how could we say no?!

We were trying to figure out dinner plans and we ended up deciding on dinner there. Dinner was a pleasant surprise and our musical evening was pretty spectacular.

20180906_134928

It was so cool to hear the music we hear on Star Wars and other movies played live. Steven Spielberg came around and showed us what a difference having music in a scene makes. It’s something I don’t think about often, but after this experience I will paying closer attention to how music in a scene makes me feel.

But before all of that, there was dinner ๐Ÿ™‚

We had salads…it was fresh and bright. The quinoa and lentils brought in some heartiness.

IMG-20180903-WA0001

B had short ribs which were fall off the bone tender. Seriously. You didn’t need a knife.

IMG-20180903-WA0004

I had chicken that had some seriously crispy skin. It was also massive!

IMG-20180903-WA0005

We shared some dessert. A chocolate torte and lemon bar. The torte was rich and deep in chocolatey flavor while the lemon bar was bright and fresh.

20180902_182644

Between the company, the food, and John Williams it was a pretty incredible evening. It was a great way to spend a Sunday night!

I hope you are all having a lovely week and I will see you Friday!

Kickin KAsian

I’ve never thought about doing or going to a crab boil and I have no idea why! The other week the idea struck me and it seemed like a fun little experience so we looked up some places.

20180824_172936

We decided on Kickin KAsian! Honestly, I am a bad, bad foodie because I’ve never opened crab and had no idea what to expect.

We got seated and got our bibs and ordered…

We got shrimp with mushroom and quail eggs (also never had quail eggs)

20180824_174627And king crab with corn, potatoes, and brussel sprouts

20180824_174622

We seasoned them medium spicy (not that spicy, would go spicy next time) and got their KAsian seasoning on one (cajun spice mix) and Garlic KAsian (cajun with garlic) on the other.

They brought us scissors and a cracking device. The shrimp was easy enough to peel, but the crab was sometimes a stickler.

We would have been okay with spicier seasoning, but otherwise the shrimp and crab were both delicious choices.

The quail eggs were like miniature versions of chicken eggs. Be cautious of the mushrooms though because they get super juicy and will squirt if you bite into it…definitely a one mouthful and be done kind of thing.

This was a very interesting experience all together…it gets pretty messy, but at the end of all the work you get some yummy chunks of seafood so I can’t complain!

We ended our night with SomiSomi! Ube flavored soft serve with nutella coated taiyaki and oreo crumble…NOMS!

20180824_202911

Have you guys ever been to a crab boil type place? What did you think?

Lunch with an Ocean View

Lunch with a view? Yes please!

20180829_100812

I don’t know why, but I’m a little skeptical of ocean side eateries. The views are gorgeous, but I never feel like the food would be spectacular. Malibu Farm Pier Cafe changed all of that for me.

20180829_100751

They have gorgeous ocean views and pretty amazing food…sadly I didn’t get a proper pic of the views, but I got plenty of the food ๐Ÿ˜‰

We were both pretty tired and hungry by the time we got to Malibu and we were ready to eat. We were a little worried when we saw the line, but we got seated pretty quickly since it was just the hubs and I.

We immediately skimmed the menu and placed our orders. Everything sounded delicious, but we went for the nicoise salad and a steak sandwich.

We had never had a nicoise salad and loved all the components. The fresh salad greens were coated in the perfect amount of creamy dressing. The green beans were crisp and sweet while the potatoes were soft and added a nice carby-ness to the dish. The tomatoes were juicy and the eggs added an extra layer of creaminess. The olives balanced everything out by adding a pop of brininess. The salmon was perfectly cooked-crispy outside and tender, flaky inside.

20180825_140129

This was possibly THE best salad I had ever had. I love having little samplings of things (as you may all know) and this was just that. That being said, it was a pretty humongous salad with a pretty hefty piece of salmon.

The steak in the sandwich was cooked beautifully, the slaw added some freshness and a little bit of sweetness, and the bread did a great job of holding everything together and not getting soggy.

20180829_101153

We wanted to try their ice-cream for dessert, but a lot of the flavors we wanted to try were out so we decided to go for some chia pudding instead. It was made with coconut milk and topped with slices of banana and powdered sugar.

20180825_142557

It was cool, creamy, and sweet way to end our gorgeous meal!

If you’re ever in Malibu I would highly recommend Malibu Farm Pier Cafe for a sweet lunch spot and if you’re not tell me about some of your favorite hidden lunch gems in the comments below!

Industry Cafe and Jazz

As much as we love revisiting our favorite food spots we also love finding new food to experience. Living in LA makes it pretty easy to have those foodie experiences. I feel so spoiled to live in a city where you can find pretty much whatever type of food you are looking for with a simple visit to Yelp.

That being said, I have no idea why it took us this long to try Ethiopian food. I feel like we’ve been meaning to for years now, but it just never happened. One Friday night we found a spot and made the leap.

20180818_200441

Industry Cafe and Jazz seemed like a great idea-the reviews were great, the food looked delish, AND there was jazz! What more could you want?

When we got there the band was getting ready and we got seated immediately. It’s a small space, but it was filled with talking and laughter. It would be a great place to bring a group of friends.

The menu was small which I liked because it makes it a bit easier to choose. We went with the Lamb Tibsi and Doro Wat. For our sides we got collard greens and red lentils.

The Lamb Tibsi was spicy and filled with chunks of lamb, while the Doro Wat was slightly sweet from the cooked down onions. The chicken leg in the Doro Wat was tender and flavorful and the hard boiled egg had taken in some flavor from the rich onion sauce.

IMG-20180819-WA0000

I believe the collard greens were steamed or sautรฉed, but still had a nice bite which was a good contrast to the lentils. Speaking of, the lentils were soft and almost creamy in texture. It was warm and had a slight sweetness which balanced the spicy lamb.

It was all served on a big piece of Injira that soaked up all the flavors. The Injira was very interesting and unlike any other bread/pancake/carb I have ever had. It was spongy and soft. It had this sour flavor that was definitely not unpleasant. I had a friend describe the taste as similar to sourdough bread.

20180818_200446

We were also brought a small basket filled with more Injira to eat our food with. You do eat with your hands and I will say that despite washing my hands multiple times they smelled like the spices from the food. Being Indian, my hands smelling like food doesn’t bother me, but I wanted to put it out there just in case…

Everyone was so friendly and helpful in navigating through the menu. The food and the music really made for a lovely night and it’s an experience I am glad to have had.

Obviously dessert is always on our list of plans and after all the flavorful spices I needed something cool, creamy, and mild (cool and creamy-what’s new?).

20180818_210132

Magnolia Bakery was pretty close so we dropped in so I could get a fix of their banana pudding. I know they have other flavors of their banana pudding, but my go to is the original. I had a few bites and saved the rest for later.

Hubby ended up getting frozen yogurt and we wrapped up our night by walking around WeHo while he ate his dessert. It was a pretty great ending to a fun little date night ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you guys had Ethiopian food? What did you think?? Let me know in the comments below!

Random Foods I’m Loving

I’ve been loving a lot lately and I know from this blog you know how much I love food so here are some foods I’ve been really enjoying!

These snap pea crisps are light, crunchy and delicious. I like that they have a little bit of protein in them and they really satisfy my crunch tooth ๐Ÿ˜‰

20180717_150326

Speaking of crunchy things these plantain chips are not filled with protein, but they are savory and delicious. These have been my favorite flavor recently!

20180717_150303

This jackfruit curry from Trader Joe’s has been hitting the spot when I need a meal I don’t need to think about. It is spicy and flavorful!

20180717_150400

I just can’t seem to get enough of s’mores this summer and so I keep eating them and eating them…

20180717_150554

Last, but not least the roasted potatoes from TJ’s has been my go to for breakfasts. I’ve been making breakfast burritos every morning and these are the perfect addition to them!

20180717_150438

Obviously this isn’t all the food I’ve been eating or enjoying, but these are some of my more recent favorite finds (minus the s’mores) so I wanted to share! I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know what foods you’ve been enjoying this summer!

Recent Dessert Faves

Let me make this super duper clear people these are not all of my favorite desserts. THAT would take a book and nobody got time for that…

IMG-20180629-WA0000

While recently drooling over some food porn on my phone I couldn’t get dessert outta my head and now that I am typing this I am panicking thinking about all the delicious desserts I am about to miss because I have no recent pics….let’s take some deeeeeeeeep breaths iin and ouut phewwww

Okay let’s get on with the yumminess

This matcha soft serve from Tea Master is everything. The creamy texture and the potent matcha flavor combine to create this cool, light, and irresistible creation.

IMG-20180629-WA0010

Donuts from SK Donuts make me super happy. Donuts from Sidecar also make me happy, but I have no recent pictures. Major takeaway? I love donuts.

20180622_224953.jpg

This next one might not be technically a dessert, BUT it is sweet. I love pan fried plantains especially the perfectly ripened ones because they tend to be sweeter. It’s slightly crisp on the outside and sweet and soft on the inside. I would eat these all day!

20180623_170305

We’ve already talked about Somi Somi in a previous post so I won’t bore you with details, but if you haven’t tried this then what are you doing??

20180624_124057

Happy Days Cafe makes a mean churro, but did you know they make churro donuts coated in chocolate and sprinkles and you can add cookies n’ cream ice-cream to the side? Also, whipped cream.

20180623_232829

Tell me about your favorite desserts or if you’re like me and change your mind every minute what is/are your current favorite dessert(s)! Pleeeeaseeee and thank you ๐Ÿ™‚
