Cookies and Closings

The week of October 13th was an exciting one to say the least! It was a busy and odd week that kinda ran together and felt super long at the same time. To sum it up there were cookies and we (finally!) closed on selling our house!!

We tried a new make your own pizza place on Wednesday called Pizza Press. It was delicious, but I would pick Blaze any day of the week!

On Thursday came some cookies we ordered! We had to try out some of Bang Cookies new flavors (and some oldies, but goodies). We waited till the weekend to try them, but they were delicious none the less. We wanted to try all the flavors so we only ate half each and froze the other half.

Thursday is also the day we got the text confirming that we had finished the process of selling our house! It was a very bittersweet moment. We obviously had loved our little home in the Valley and put a lot of effort into making it go from house to home, but we were very happy and relieved to have finished the selling process.

This was the first home we bought together and boy did we learn so much! It was quite the journey ❀️

I was also working Thursday and Friday so it was a bit of a blur!

Our weekend was kicked off on Saturday with a workout and breakfast at Denny’s. We both ordered the same veggie sizzlin’ skillets. and shared half of a pumpkin crackle cookie.

We walked around and enjoyed the gorgeous weather and walked into a Barnes and Noble. I headed into my favorite section which happened to have some really interesting and funny finds.

20191019_112309

I also noted this book that I want to buy at some point!

20191019_113108

We also did some grocery shopping so our Sunday selves would thank us πŸ™‚

20191019_121729

After dropping off groceries and dropping in some laundry we headed out for a nice walk and some caffeine.

20191019_140813

When we came back we went to TJ Maxx and got this gorgeous, fluffy blanket from TJ Maxx and some fun wrapping paper from Target!

20191019_192319

By the time we came back we were in much need of a snack so I had some TJ’s Harvest Chili and sourdough toast. We may or may not have had half of this cinnamon whiskey crackle…by “we may” I mean we definitely did.

20191019_125352

I finished up laundry while hubs wrapped up a present and we enjoyed some In n’ Out and more cookies for dinner!

I don’t know about you, but that is a pretty productive week for us! I hope you guys are having a great start to your weeks and I would love to know what you’ve been up to-let’s talk in the comments!

Roasted Veggies and Cookies

I feel like this title pretty much sums up my life-I love veggies and I love cookies and in order to be a fully functioning me I need both.

We just can’t seem to get enough of roasted veggies. Spring has sprung, but cooler evening temps has me still wanting warm foods so instead of having a salad or steaming my vegetables we’ve been roasting them into golden brown (slightly charred…okay a lot charred) perfection!

Burgers and fries? Nahhhh roasted carrots, broccoli, and brussels will do just fine πŸ™‚

20190324_174857

Nothing goes better with salmon then some perfectly roasted vegetables! This is the pretty plate hubs made me so I could take a pic! He is the sweetest ❀️

20190322_204824

This is the plate I ate!

20190322_205136

Is morning too early to have roasted brussels? I didn’t think so either πŸ˜‰

20190323_110237

Leaving the nutriently dense part of this post and entering cookie land now πŸ™‚ Hubs heard about how good these Dunkers from Trader Joe’s were. I spotted them while getting groceries the other day and impulsively added them to the cart.

20190322_210835

I’m not a crispy cookie person, but there’s something oddly enjoyable about these for me. I think I may prefer the mini chocolate chip Nantucket cookies from Pepperidge Farm over these, but I can’t say I regret buying these. I will be attempting to finish the package…not all at once!

Now for a cookie type I do enjoy-chewy, melty, and filled with chocolate chips.

We made this recipe and used these incredible Guittard baking wafers. These are some expensive chocolate chips, but we tried a few while baking and LORDYY were they the best chocolate “chips” I’ve ever had.

20190324_170326

They are not chocolate chip shaped instead they are rounder and flatter. They do great at layering that chocolatey goodness into your cookie.

These cookies turned out incredible! We still have cookie dough in the fridge and it’s killing me to not pick up a spoon and just dig in to it.

20190324_170137

Are you guys cookie dough people or cookie people? I LOVE a good cookie and have always enjoyed cookie dough, but after this I can see why people could enjoy the dough more than the cookie. Let’s talk in the comments about your current food loves/obsessions!

Cookie Jar

Okay, so we don’t have a cookie jar, but if we did it would be overflowing. Unintentionally, we went on a cookie adventure of sorts these past couple of months. It was all kicked off by hubby ordering cookies from PDX Cookie Co.

It was Valentine’s, he knows I (we) love cookies so it was super sweet and so were the cookies πŸ˜‰

After ordering cookies from 4 different companies I thought it would be fun to come and share with your our favorites and lesser favorites.

PDX cookies were incredible-straight from the tupperware container they were send in they were super good. Warmed up even better! honestly could not tell you which flavors we had because hubby ordered them. There were 12 cookies, 2 of each flavor and was about $47 after tax and shipping. Despite being filled with candies, cookies, and other goodies the cookie base was still delicious. The texture had crunchy edges and a soft and chewy interior. I know I preferred the chocolatey and peanut buttery ones, but the hubby did love the pink ones filled with frosted animal cookies and other deliciousness.

20190215_210328

After reading a cookie box review online I ordered Bang Cookies. The writer of that review said that the salted chocolate chip cookies at Bang were better than Levain’s. I ordered 2 salted chocolate chip, PBJ, kitchen sink, white chocolate mac, and double chocolate. This was definitely the best in terms of pricing. At the time if you got 6 cookies you got free shipping. I paid the least for Bang Cookies out of the companies we tried-I believe the total was $27 or $28. In terms of taste, I have not had Levain yet, but these salted chocolate chip cookies were incredible. They were chewy and melty (we warmed them in the microwave) and incredible! All the cookies were amazing, but the chocolate chip were my hands down winner!

20190308_081304

I ordered Big Fat Cookie after reading the same review page. These were the #1 best cookies on her page. Price wise these were around $32 after shipping and tax. These cookies were big and fat and filled with all the goods. I ordered Nuckin’ Futz which all had peanut butter of some sorts whether through reeses or pb chips. There were 4 cookies in a pack and they were heavy 6oz cookies. These were good, but I don’t think these were the best. It’s a cookie (good) filled with delicious candies and chocolates (good), but I didn’t have that eye roll to the back of my head moment with these. Maybe I’m crazy?

20190308_081202

The last cookie company we tried was Fat and Weird Cookie Co. These may have been the most expensive per cookie, but we were intrigued. If you’re curious they were around $25 for 3 cookies. I know hubby had a hard time even being able to order because they would sell out so quickly! Needless to say we felt pretty accomplished when we finally placed an order!

When the cookies came I will not lie we were a little disappointed by the size. I’m not sure if you can tell, but these were the smallest cookies of the four. In terms of taste they were subpar even if you don’t take price into consideration. When you do consider price these were a fail!

20190312_165100

If you were to try any of these cookie companies I would recommend PDX and/or Bang. I thought they were equally delicious in different ways. PDX had interesting mix-ins and were a nice chewy, fat cookie. Bang cookies felt like a classic cookie in terms of appearance (still chewy and thick) and taste. In terms of pricing I do think it’s an experience situation and not every week/month type thing. I also think these would be great gifts if you know a cookie lover!

Let me know if you guys have ever tried any of these cookies and what you thought OR if you’ve had other cookies shipped to you which ones you love.

The Tale of Bay Cities

I don’t know how, but we had somehow managed to not visit the Getty Villa in our nearly two years of living in LA.

IMG-20180506-WA0024

We finally made it!

It is so beautiful-the architecture, the art, the garden. It’s seriously worth the visit if you are in LA.

We walked around taking in the art and the sunshine until we were tired and hungry. This is where Bay Cities came to save the day!

Bay Cities is an Italian deli and grocery store. We were here for the sandwiches!

We got the reuben with corned beef and the tri tip.Β The sandwiches were delicious (messy, but delicious) and the baguette holding it all together was dreamy.

IMG-20180506-WA0004

We also had to get chips on the side because #childhood

And these rainbow cookies because it was bae’s childhood

IMG-20180506-WA0006

Since we were so close we stopped by the Grove and had a donut. A sprinkled chocolate glazed donut to be exact.

IMG-20180506-WA0008

How could we not?

IMG-20180506-WA0009

Do you have a favorite local sandwich place?

Sweet Endings

The weekend is here and I really wanted to end on a sweet note πŸ™‚ I decided to do a picture ode from a recent visit to Paderia Bakery.

We got more than our fair share of sweet treats, but we restrained ourselves from buying the entire bakery display of goodies (pat on the back for us)!

They have cookies, cheesecakes, and malasadas of all different flavors…

Feeling the blues and eating cookies

It’s been a minute since I have brought a true favorites post to you and so here we are today discussing some of the things I have been loving!

We have a blue, light grey, white situation happening with our home so anytime I see anything blue/white I get super excited and decide I must have it. These kitchen towels were no exception!

20170812_133332

Sticking with the blue theme we were in Target when I spotted this throw. There was no price on it, but it was just so pretty and a nice, large size so I figured I would keep it unless it was some insane price. Guys! Guess how much? $5.98. Seriously. I couldn’t find another one anywhere in the store, but I am so glad that I found this one!

20170812_133452

I have a couple of movie favorites (finally catching up with all the movies)! The first being Wonder Woman…I just loved this movie so much. The other being Atomic Blonde. I love me a good superhero movie and it was all the sweeter to see some strong female leads. They both had a good story line and there was plenty of action (and gore in Atomic Blonde). I would totally recommend both of these if you haven’t seen them!

Now for the moment we have all been waiting for (ahem, I have been waiting for)-the cookies. You guys. These cookies are so freaking good. I have no idea how I have been so blind the them for so long. These are the cookie butter cookies from Trader Joe’s. The cookies are rich, buttery butter cookies and the filling is the famous cookie butter. Where have these been my whole life??

20170813_110545

That concludes my favorites post! If you need me you can find me on the couch drinking green juice and eating these cookies #balance
