Good food, great company

Happy Monday lovely people!

I hope you’re all kicking the week off strong! We’ve been enjoying some yummy food the past week or so and I thought it would be fun to share ๐Ÿ™‚

We kicked the weekend off with a little date night at Paul Martin’s. We looked through the menu, but finally settled on getting a couple of mains. We had to get the short rib since it was so good last time and we got a blackened ribeye. We shared and loved both dishes!

A little flash back to the week though would give us this homemade dinner of salmon and veggies. I found this mustardy cajun sauce recipe to use and I’m a little obsessed with it. I can almost taste it!

We had been on a burger kick that got interrupted by some busy schedules, but we finally jumped back on the wagon Sunday and were not disappointed. These burgers were so good-caramelized onions, garlicky cheddar cheese, pickles, lettuce, and In n’ Out spread. Also, carrot fries!

I think we temporarily went crazy and decided to buy a Costco cake-the only reason this is a little wild is because we are TWO people…but we had bought this cake before and knew we loved it. The chocolate tuxedo cake is so good! I love the layers of texture and flavor! Highly recommend-even if you are only two people ๐Ÿ™‚

I love yummy food, but I have to say that good food is made a million times better by great company. I love being married to my foodie partner in crime and each day (food related or not) is a wonderful adventure with you.

Oh the food we will eat…The State

During our move in week in order to get some sanity we decided to do a little date night. We went and saw a movie and happened to make in time for the happy hour menu (which is apparently all day on Monday).

It was such a beautiful day we decided to sit outside and take in the weather. After perusing the menu we decided on the Brussels sprouts, short rib tacos, and a burger.

I really loved the Brussels-the crispy, crunchy, charred pieces are always my favorite and that dollop of goat cheese on top rounded it all out and added that much needed creamy tang.

The husband really loved the short rib tacos. Besides looking beautiful (those colors!) these were meaty and fresh and crunchy and wonderful!

The burger was a wonderful cheeseburger of sorts and it did end up falling apart towards the end, but it was worth the mess. The salad on the side was really pretty and a good standard salad-nothing to write home about!

We headed out for frozen yogurt after this, but really enjoyed our experience at The State. Since our whole order was off the happy hour menu the whole thing ended up being under $30? That’s a pretty cheap date night ๐Ÿ™‚

Weekend (Foodie) Adventures

Hey loves! Hope your Friday is going well. I thought to kick off our mornings I would do a little recap of what the hubs and I got up to last weekend!

To be completely honest we had been planning this weekend for a little while and knew that there were some stops we really wanted to make. We woke up for an early workout and headed out on a mission: Crafted Donuts in Koreatown ๐Ÿ˜€

We ended up with 3 donuts: creme brรปlรฉe, Homer, and a blueberry with lemon glaze. They were all tasty, but our winners were creme brรปlรฉe and the Homer for sure! The dough was soft and pillowy the icings and fillings were sweet and delicious.

We drove from there to Century City mall and stumbledย into a Shake Shack. We accidentally found ourselves in line and decided it was time for a “snack.” We shared a cheeseburger, fries, and a peanut butter shake.

A seriously incredible “snack.” Everything was so good! We weren’t even that hungry to say that hunger added to how good our meal was. I’m kinda sad we don’t have one closer TBH.

We walked around the mall to let our food settle and window shopped our way around the whole place!

Post mall we headed to the beach and felt a little mid-day slump. We decided to fix this with some cold brews at Two Guns Espresso. We brought our cold brews along for a walk ย and walked into Blue Star Donuts.

We ended up getting the blueberry basil bourbon I believe and continued on walking. We ended up making one more stop at a taco place for another snack for me (fish tacos) and we ended up devouring the donut after!

We ended up driving home after a brisk walk around the area since we had a Halloween party to get to (we went as Basic B’s if you were wondering). Post party we ended up binging on Stranger Things and got through 6 or 7 of the episodes before calling it quits for the night.

Sunday morning we woke up pretty groggy and tired, but thankfully we had planned on a rest day from the gym anyway.

We had some errands to run and some groceries to get so we did that and grabbed breakfast at Corner Bakery Cafe. Our spread consisted of a scrambler, toast, and potatoes as well as a breakfast sandwich. We shared everything and left full and happy!

We spend the rest of the day snacking and finishing up Stranger Things before grabbing pizza for dinner ๐Ÿ™‚

All in all, it was a successful weekend if you ask us! It was filled with food, adventures, laughter, and my favorite person ๐Ÿ˜‰

Kimchi Turkey Burger

These turkey burgers were the second recipe we decided to try with Plated. I was most excited and intrigued by this recipe because I had no idea what gochujang was. From what I understand (please correct me if I’m wrong) it is a Korean fermented chili paste.

The gochujang was used in two different ways in this recipe-one, it was mixed into the turkey meat and two, it was stirred in with mayo to create a sauce for the burger.

Gochujang aside, I LOVE kimchi and burgers so I definitely thought that this would be my type of dish.

The dish had a side of sesame seed coated carrot fries instead of the usual potato variety. It was a nice touch and much appreciated since it prevented the us from scrummaging through the fridge to throw together a last minute salad!

The recipe was easy to follow and everything came together pretty quickly.

Now on to the taste…

Kimchi turkey burgers from Plated were a total win for the hubs! I on the other hand thought they were okay. I would have liked more bite…more kimchi or some red onions would have been great.

Despite this not being my favorite recipe I am still really enjoying Plated. We’ll see how the next recipe goes…I do believe that lamb tacos will be plated up next ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hello Fresh: Burgers

This is the last meal in my Hello Fresh review and let me say it ended on a super delicious and delightful note ๐Ÿ™‚

If you have seen any of my past posts you know that we do enjoy a good burger and it’s one of our favorite things to make when we’re at home. Based on our burger love alone we figured this would be a favorite for the both of us and it was!

This burger had delicious balsamic onions and garlic aioli spread all stuffed inside of a brioche bun. Instead of making a side of fries-it came with cauli and panko so we could make cauli fries! Similar to the other two-this meal had very little prep and it all came together pretty quickly.

The cauli fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The burger was amazing. The onions were super flavorful and added a nice balance to the rich aioli.

I would say this was my favorite meal out of the three, but I also know that this is something we could have (and we have) made at home.

Late(r) night eats

Now, I can’t tell you that eating tacos and burgers late night is the best for you, but for us it happens on occasion and I just look at it as part of a balanced lifestyle ๐Ÿ˜‰

We had family in town so after the hubs got done with work we met up with them. They had eaten dinner by the time we met up so we figured we would just grab dinner after.

We walked around LACMA and the Grove with them and then we were on the hunt for dinner. By this point we were ready to eat! We settled on Plan Check since we had heard good things, but also because we had heard of their ketchup leather.

We ordered tacos and their Plan Check burger plus some broccolini #getthosegreens

I think my favorite were the tacos, but honestly everything was super delicious.

The ketchup leather was sweet and lent an almost bbq type flavor to the burger.

Post dinner we decided to stop by McConnell’s for ice-cream. We split their double scoop-he got a scoop of double PB chip in a cone and I got the sea salt cookies and cream in a cup. So sweet and creamy!

It was definitely a top-notch food night for us and we enjoyed every last bite!

Hello Fresh

I know it probably sounds crazy, but we decided to try yet another meal subscription plan. I don’t know if we just had high expectations, but Blue Apron just didn’t blow us away so we opted out and went on the hunt for another box.

We saw many good reviews for this one and decided to go for it. Right off the bat during the ordering process we weren’t super excited about any of the meal options, but decided to go ahead and give them a fair chance.

We picked a chicken dish, pizza, and burger and it all came to our house in a nice little box. Everything was packaged, insulated, and iced appropriately.

I liked that they had all the ingredients for each dish in it’s own bag so you didn’t have to even take time to sort out what went with what.

There were recipe cards for each dish and a completely different card for the nutrition facts. They included nutrition facts for ALL the meals that were available that week-not just the ones that we ordered.
