Snooze

We were in Carlsbad with some friends a few weeks ago and hubby had a meeting to be at so myself and friends went to brunch. We ended up going to Snooze in San Diego-it was a 30ish minute drive from where we were, but it was worth every minute.

I was craving something sweet and lucky for me they had some great options to pick from. A friend and I split the pancake sampler and a OMG french toast.

For our pancake sampler we got their Smashin’ Pumpkin, Blueberry Danish, and their pancake of the day which was an apple/caramel situation.

The OMG french toast was incredible. It was a brioche bread filled with mascarpone and topped with vanilla creme, salted caramel, strawberries and toasted coconut. We left off the caramel on this one, but didn’t miss it one bit. It was sweet and the toasted coconut added lovely texture to the soft, pillowy french toast.

The Smashin’ Pumpkin was the favorite in the pancakes, but all of the pancakes were fluffy and delicious. I wouldn’t recommend the Blueberry Danish-it was the least favorite and I do love bluebs an awful lot. I think if I hadn’t had the other two pancakes I would have liked the blueberry one more, but in comparison not that great!

Our other friend got a savory dish and loved it too! This place has amazing reviews on Yelp and it was true to it’s ratings. We actually had to wait an hour before getting seated, but I would still come back because I thought the food was that good!

If you ever come to San Diego you need to stop by for brunch!

Recent Eats

Hey sweet people!

I am excited to share with you some meals I have on my phone that I haven’t shared in any of the other blog posts. These are meals I probably captured with the intention of having a full day of eating, but it didn’t happen #badfoodblogger

We had some delicious sushi at Sushi Enya with some friends. Sadly, we only got pics of a couple of rolls and these were actually captured by hubby I think. After this we were so busy eating and talking that few pictures were taken. Oops!

One Sunday after a mediocre brunch we decided to cook at home. We thought about it and decided on steak and cauli. The hubs made a gorgeous steak and I roasted up the cauliflower for a pretty simple but tasty dish!

I usually prefer a savory breakfast, but always need something sweet after–usually fruit. I decided to skip breakfast dessert and just have something sweet for breakfast by way of these gluten free banana pancakes. I know I’ve posted about these and they are quick, yummy, and filling.

20180917_100258

This delicious looking salmon was our dinner one weeknight that I was off. It was a fun dish to create and lovely to look at too!

20180918_180848

We did go back to Malibu Farm Pier Cafe and get some brunch which was a little underwhelming compared to their lunch, but I was too hungry to go anywhere else. I got this salmon hash dish and hubby got an open brussels sprout omelette.

Those are all the random dishes I have for today! I’m sure I will have more in the coming weeks 🙂 Have a fantastic Thursday!

Brunch with Bae

Do you guys remember when I talked about Blu Jam Cafe? It was a pretty excellent experience last time and sadly we hadn’t been back since then. I guess that’s the issue of living in LA. Too many places to go and not enough time or belly space 😀

IMG-20180722-WA0004

We made time last week and hit up Blu Jam for round 2. I got the Migas this time and bae got the Powerhouse.

Migas came with eggs, beef chorizo, mozz cheese (I subbed cheddar), and tortilla chips. It came with a side of the crispiest breakfast potatoes and a few corn tortillas! This was honestly me in a breakfast bowl.

20180722_133443

Bae’s Powerhouse came with egg whites with spinach and two pieces of chicken with salsa to top it all off.

IMG-20180722-WA0005

It was a hot day and so we ended up skipping their famous french toast this time around and stopping by Menchie’s for some frozen yogurt.

I got pineapple sorbet and cake batter with some mango popping balls!

IMG-20180722-WA0002

Bae got all the sorbets: pineapple, watermelon, and honeydew plus some strawberry froyo. He added some mochi, almonds, and whipped cream on top 🙂

Perfect to cool down us and our sweet teeth!

A true brunch

I feel like I’ve posted on here about Leo & Lily’s a few times, but it’s definitely one of our favorite go to spots for any meal, but especially brunch.

We came one Saturday for brunch and then I made a rash decision to have a sandwich from their lunch section. Major shocker! But isn’t that what brunch is about? Combining lunch and breakfast and making it one beautiful delicious meal?

I ended up getting the pastrami sandwich and it was amazing, but I could only finish half of it along with all of my side salad.  We did end up eating the rest late night though so that was a nice treat 🙂

20180714_123516

To keep up with the breakfast side of things the hubs stuck with the breakfast section and got his usual egg white frittata that he loves!

20180714_123536

I love that there is something for everyone here! It’s seriously great food-I’ve never had anything bad here and it’s such a super cute spot to bring friends, family, a date 😉

What is your go-to brunch place?

Brunch at Ingo’s

My belief is that if you want to catch up with a friend it is best to do it with food and if it can be at brunch time that would be optimal 😀

Needless to say that this moment came to fruition so off to brunch we went at Ingo’s.

Our friend got a scramble and we shared the eggs benny and shakshuka.

We opted for crab with our eggs benny and it was rich, creamy and delicious.

20180506_115049

Shakshuka is a tomato based egg dish and was bright and flavorful.

20180506_115038

Post brunch we were needing something sweet to balance all those savory flavors so we decided to go to Sidecar.

I love Sidecar and I think they have some of the most delicious donuts ever.

We ended up with a box of 4: original glazed, old fashioned, Mexican hot chocolate, and a churro donut.

20180506_124448

The original glazed was fluffy and soft and melt in your mouth, the old fashioned had a good nutmeg flavor, but my favorite was the churro. The hubs loved the Mexican hot chocolate!

When in Hollywood…

Do the Hollywood Hike?!?!? Or maybe it was when in Hollywood eat some Japanese pancakes? No? Just me?!

We woke up bright and early to do the Hollywood Hike which despite lack of motivation at the beginning ended up being quite rewarding. It’s a steady up hill climb, but nothing crazy.

20180504_093009

After having hiked we build up a nice appetite and found a sweet little brunch spot at WKNDR.

20180504_120941

We ordered the chicken sandwich, like we do.

20180504_120922

Then we ordered the Japanese pancakes and my life was changed.

20180504_120916

The chicken sandwich was a good chicken sandwich-crispy chicken, soft bread, etc. But the pancakes were literally like eating cake. It was moist and once drizzled with syrup they were sweet and amazing!

Post brunch dessert ended up being a walk with some fruit cart fruit. It was tangy and salty and sweet-a perfect little ending to a sweet little brunch 🙂

Have you tried Japanese pancakes? What did you think??

Erewhon Haul

Hello sweet, sweet friends! Today I come to you with a mini-haul and brunch (lunch) from Erewhon. We had some groceries to get so we figured we would start with a fun stop at Erewhon market!

I won’t lie I kinda love this place. It has the usual groceries along with a cafe area, cold and hot food bar, sushi, pizza, bakery, etc. Basically, if you love yummy, whole foods you will probably love it here 🙂

We grabbed snagged these organic edamame puffs which were crunchy and pretty delicious. I believe they were supposed to be a cheesy flavor, but I didn’t get a lot of that. They had a nice satisfying crunch! What made them better was alternating them with the next snack we found…

20180415_152552

These cauliflower puffs which were vegan and apparently had probiotics. These were super light and pretty similar to Cheetos puffs (not in flavor, just in texture). Honestly, they may even be lighter than the Cheetos. These were great and as I mentioned if you made your own snack mix with the edamame puffs and cauli puffs you basically get a delicious supersnack 😉

20180415_152540

We would not be us if we did not get ice-cream and when we found this PB marshmallow crunch we couldn’t resist. The ice-cream is good, but not great. It had great peanut butter flavor, but no marshmallowiness at all 😦

20180415_124128

After all this shopping we worked up a good appetite and decided to share a slice of bbq chicken pizza, some cauliflower wings, and watermelon kombucha. The ‘buch was delicious! I loved this watermelon flavor (side note: the mango flavor is great too). I thought the pizza was okay, but the hubs really loved it. The cauli wings were so yummy and crispy and pretty flavorful. I was impressed!

Gluten Free Pancakes

I have been very blessed to not really have any type of food allergy/intolerance. The only thing I can’t really handle is dairy milk, but that doesn’t bother me since I’m not a fan anyway. I love my Califia almond milk 🙂

BUT I’ve come across this recipe many, many times with all sorts of variations and I had a ripe banana I didn’t want to eat, but needed to use so this seemed like a great time to try it out.

20180409_103335

All you need is a well ripened banana and an egg to make this recipe, but I did add some almond butter and cinnamon in. You mash up your banana and stir in your egg and whatever fun ingredients you prefer, mix it all together, and cook it up in a pan like all other pancakes.

This made 2 medium size pancakes and 1 teeny baby pancake. I did eat one medium size pancake while these were cooking just in case you were wondering about the missing one. Does anybody else do this while making pancakes?

20180409_103901

More almond butter on top and a clementine on the side

Just so you know these don’t hold together like a traditional pancake so flipping can be slightly difficult, but not terrible. The other thing to note is that they are pretty soft and slightly gooey in the middle from the ‘nana.

I freaking LOVED them. They were delicious and tasted like a cross between banana muffins and french toast…um, yes please.

If you have made these let me know what add-ins you like and if you haven’t made these I say give them a try!

Post-Test Weekend

We had a pretty relaxed and chill weekend (last weekend) because we were both spent and exhausted from the busy week.

20180401_135118

We still managed to get in a workout, do our grocery shopping, and squeeze in lots of walks 🙂

We also had a nice yummy brunch at Leo and Lily’s. The hubs got their egg white veggie frittata and I got a breakfast burrito!

IMG-20180401-WA0017

I did only manage to get down half of this burrito because it was (as the waitress warned me) SO filling!

We were planning on doing some shopping, but soon realized everything was closed due to the Easter weekend so instead we indulged in one…or maybe five macarons. The passion fruit flavor was my fave and the hubs loved the blueberry lavender one.

We had a pretty early dinner of T-Bell and watched some Fixer Upper! Our sweet tooth kicked in and we both decided Go Greek sounded too good to not have so off we went.

IMG-20180401-WA0028

Early bedtime since we had early wake up times Monday 🙂 I love having a chill weekend especially when I get to do it with my fave guy. I hope you lovelies are having a great week and I’ll see you Wednesday!

Oh the food we will eat…Great White

After a full day of working out and then doing some indoor rock climbing (my first time, hubs second) we were exhausted and in need of serious nourishment!

We were having trouble deciding where to go and what to eat, but finally decided on Great White. I can’t even tell you how glad I am we decided on this.

First of all the space is gorgeous and secondly the doors open up completely to let in all the sunshine. It’s really well done with a seamless indoor/outdoor eating area. It was already packed by the time we got there, but we were able to snag a table for two pretty easily!

We were too tired to think and ended up going with a breakfast burrito (it’s called Breakfast Burrito on the menu) and Crispy Chicken Sandwich.

20180224_154118

Hubby fell in LOVE with this breakfast burrito-the softly scrambled eggs is what did it I think 🙂 He even went as far to say that this was “the best breakfast burrito I ever had.”

The chicken sandwich was pretty spectacular as well! I really loved the use of dill in this sandwich and the side of fries were crispy and perfect.

20180224_154109

We really loved this place (the hubs was a BIG fan) and we will be going back to check out more of the menu (or if you’re hubby-get the breakfast burrito again)!

Have you been to Great White? What have you tried on the menu??
