Philadelphia Day 3

I’m only writing this by itself because my last Philly post seemed like it went on forever!

We started this morning off with workout and then Starbucks. I’m pretty sure I was only half functioning till then anyways! I needed all the beverages-green juice, coffee and unseen water.

Post breakfast B showered and headed to his conference. After he left I showered and then proceeded to catch up on emails and life while watching HGTV.

I looked up some Philly cheesesteak spots in the area and even watched a YouTube video about them.

The universe must have lined up because when B came back for lunch break he announced that one of his fellow peeps had suggested a cheesesteak spot. I had not heard of this one, but was excited to try it regardless!

With a name like Ishkabibble’s you don’t know what to expect, but after a 30 minute walk we were greeted with some pretty delicious smells.

Hubs and I shared a cheesesteak with whiz and onions. We also got two tossed salads. I am not an iceberg fan, but I needed some green in my life! I did not get a pic, but it was iceberg, carrots, tomatoes and onion with Italian dressing.

It was a delicious cheesesteak. All the cheese whiz and onions melted into the steak…this is what the cheesesteak guy on YouTube must have been talking about.

I never thought I would be a cheesewhiz fan, but I am a true believer in trying anything once (sometimes twice-just to be sure πŸ˜… ) and trying it the way it was intended before branching out.

I’m still not sure I would eat cheese whiz on the regs, but this is one way I would eat it again without batting an eye.

We walked back to the hotel so hubs and friends could head back to the conference. I dropped by the hotel and headed back out to explore more of thd area.

I won’t lie after 20 minutes I was hot and uncomfortable so I headed back. Lucky for me I saw this gorgeous mural and took a pic that does it absolutely no justice.

Post mural walking I hung out in the lobby writing this post. When B got done there was a little mingling event that we went to. It was starting to sprinkle outside so lucky for us the event was in the hotel!

After chatting it up we needed to eat! We headed out to Cleavers and the rain started coming down. Lucky for us the walk was a “short” 15 minutes, the rain made it feel longer. Honestly, we were just happy it wasn’t cold and raining. By the time we got there we were giddy and ready for food!

They have cheesesteaks, salads, fries, and dessert so obviously we had to get one of each πŸ˜‰

Hubby ordered their meaty 1lb cheesesteak, spinach salad, garlic parmesan waffle fries, and a chocolate cake. I could not even finish that cheesesteak and I took out half the meat! The fries were garlicky and delicious, the salad spinachy and refreshing, and the cake was moist and chocolatey mmmm…

We walked back to the hotel and popped into a couple of stores on the way to browse around, but thankfully the rain had calmed down to a sprinkle.

We watched some basketball games that were on while getting ready for bed. We stayed up until I simply couldn’t keep my eyes open for another second and that my friends concludes day 3!

 

 

Full Day of Eating on a Friday

By the end of the week our fridge is usually running low on produce so if I’m at home I’m usually eating the last bits and pieces of our fruit and veg. This particular Friday I didn’t realize we had no kale so I decided I would just have some tomatoes with my morning toast πŸ™‚

I did have breakfast dessert in the form of a mandarin, but that obviously went unpictured…shmurp.

Lunch was half of the last piece of naan bread topped with some sardine “salad” I threw together. I heated up some frozen broccoli since I was craving something green and tomatoes because I needed to use them up. Not very appetizing looking, but it was really delicious and nutritious πŸ˜‰

Again mandarins were had, but nowhere to be found in my phone. Quite the mystery…

We had planned our dinner for Friday night, but had not done any of the shopping for it so once the hubby got home we did some grocery shopping to have our burger night.

We found these delicious challah rolls from Whole Foods. They were crusty on the outside and so so so soft on the inside. I was in bread heaven!

We made a stop at Sprouts to get some ingredients for this Green Goddess dip I had seen on Queer Eye on Netflix plus ground beef and other essentials.

We created an amazing side of roasted cauliflower that we dipped in the delicious Green Goddess dip we made. I highly suggest making the dip! It’s so yummy and herby and noms!

We obv also had these amazing burgers in the most incredible buns. A co-worker had gifted (kinda forced) some white cheddar on me and so we used that to top our burger. We both felt like we had found our best burger situation…the bun, the cheese, the meat, seasoning-it was all perfection!

Another thing we picked up at Sprout’s were these mochi ice-cream that we saw. They were new and the flavors were intriguing so we obviously had to try a few! I think I prefer the fruit flavored mochi ice-cream over these, but they were still tasty!

Recent Eats

It’s kinda been a crazy month or so in our household and because of that I haven’t been the best at taking pics of a full day of meals. I have on the other hand taken pics here and there of a few meals I’ve made and some we’ve had out.

I wanted to share them since I had them and I thought it would be fun!

We’ve been eating our share of broccoli in this house…whether it’s roasted or steamed. I’ve been having it with a delicious quesadilla.

I’ve been loving a simple slice of bread with some PB for a basic morning breakfast. It’s even better when I have some berries on the side or a banana to top it off πŸ™‚

V-Day Weekending

As much as I would have LOVED to get this post out on Monday life and work tend to get in the way of well intentioned plans soooo….here we are on Thursday talking about what the hubs and I got up to this past weekend!

I got a serious hankering for BJ’s buffalo chicken pizza on Friday so when B got home we compromised and got half buffalo chicken and half bbq chicken-we DEVOURED this pizza!

Knowing how much I obsessed I am with food and how much I love dessert B had ordered some cookies for us from PDX Cookie Co. He ordered their variety pack which arrived just in time for our V-Day weekend! I am not kidding when I tell you these cookies were seriously packed with all the goodies and were super delicious…also, super incredible warmed up!

Pizza and cookies=great start to any weekend? Amiright?

Saturday we woke up, had coffee, and headed to the gym! Post workout we had plans to head over to the mall and finally combine our phone plans to one carrier (we’ve been married for almost 3 years now-it was time). This is a task I had been dreading, but it went so smoothly that I kept talking about how easy and wonderful the process was.

After all this excitement we went home and I ate the lonely slice of BBQ chicken pizza that was left from Friday night πŸ™‚

The rest of the day was spend running errands, perusing through our favorite mall and figuring out what we should do for dinner. We had very well intentioned plans to have dinner at a Brazilian Steakhouse. I had made reservations in advance and we were really excited about the whole thing until we got to the day of the reservation. Suddenly, we wanted everything but steak…anybody else have this dilemma?

We went back and forth on a few options until deciding on Rosie’s BBQ. We ordered a beef rib each, their Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and a side of their baked fries. Sadly I got pictures of none of our dinner on Saturday night so I am very sorry about that 😦

Their was nothing Nashville hot about this chicken sandwich. It was a pretty sad chicken sandwich at that. It was this super thin chicken patty that had absolutely no spice. I turned to hubby and wondered if they had messed up our order…who knows?

The beef ribs were yummy per usual and the fries were the star of the show. They were fat wedge type fries which I normally do not like, but these were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They were seasoned so perfectly! LOVED these fries!

We had more cookies for dessert πŸ™‚

We woke up Sunday morning and did some grocery shopping for the week. We then took a brisk walk around our neighborhood since we were not planning on heading to the gym. Snacked a bit before heading out to a super late lunch/very early dinner situation with our friends.

Before meeting up with the friends we explored Olvera Street and Union Station. It was super cool to check out the vendors at Olvera Street. The sights and smells were incredible and overwhelming. I didn’t know where to look!

We made one last quick stop at Fugetsu Do for a couple of pieces of mochi. If you haven’t been here or tried their sweet creations you absolutely need to. Their mochi is so soft and incredible. We got a red bean and a blueberry Β mochi for dessert!

I had been wanting to check out Bun Shop for a minute and figured this would be a good excuse to try out their baos. I had a spicy chicken bao and a beef bao. Hubs had the same and we shared some of their Yoshi fries.

I definitely preferred the beef bao. It had a fried onion on top of it which added a nice crunchy texture to the soft meaty bun. I do wish the buns themselves held together a bit better-they were both split on the bottom which made it a little difficult to eat. The fries were really yummy with the addition of the furikake seasoning!

After spending a good amount of time catching up we all went our separate ways, but before the hubs and I went home we made one last stop at 85 Degrees. I think we both were craving the milk buns, but got a couple of other treats too πŸ™‚

We made it home with time to watch some Netflix before bed! It wasn’t the most traditional V-Day weekend, but as long as we are spending time together we are pretty happy! I hope you all had a lovely V-Day weekend!!

Sundays are for Dim Sum

After reading Mackenzie’s post about her dim sum experience I was dying to go. The hubs had gone once before, but I never had and I wanted, I needed, to go.

We went to Bao Dim Sum House and had a quick glance at the menu before deciding on what to get. They aren’t walking around with dishes instead you just order and they will bring it to your table.

After we ordered we were brought some sauces to dip our dumplings in. There was a chili sauce and a creamy wasabi sauce. You really had to be careful with the creamy wasabi because it looks like harmless peanut sauce, but it’s a real punch to your sinuses.

We ended up mixing the two and it created a nice melody of spicy savory goodness.

We got the Har Gow (shrimp dumplings). These were good. The outside was nice and thin, but didn’t too well holding up to the shrimp filling inside. They were better when dipped in sauce since they didn’t have much flavor on their own.

I wanted to try a bun and since all their buns had pork except for the veggie one we ordered the Veggie Bun. I LOVED the texture of the bun. It was so incredible, but I will say it needed something meatier to hold up to the carby goodness of the bun.

The spicy chicken dumplings were our favorite. It was ground chicken with spices. This one held together better than the shrimp!

We got the chicken and spinach potstickers and they ended up being my second favorite. I really enjoyed the sear on them. They were super hearty!

I was super curious about the crispy crab and shrimp balls, but can say these were my least favorite. It was too fried and greasy and I didn’t even eat the half that hubs put on my plate.

After dim sum we walked to Four Winters. It’s a little ice-cream shop where they make your ice-cream right in front of you.

I got the Knafeh which is sweet cream ice-cream with vermicelli, pistachio, and rose syrup. I think it was an homage to baklava. I loved it so much-it was sweet and crunchy!

The hubby got a cookie dough and it was brimming with cookie dough pieces. He really enjoyed his too πŸ™‚

All in all I can say it was such a great and cool experience. I love how many different kinds of dumplings there are and the textures between each thing is interesting and fun! If you’ve never had dim sum I highly encourage you to give it a try!

Staycation

The hubs and I had a week off together and instead of flying out somewhere like we normally do we decided to stick around home and discover some places, food, things that we had not yet explored in LA.

The night (Tuesday night) we made our steak dinner from Sun Basket we went to a comedy show. We love comedy and there’s plenty of it in LA. We love the Comedy Store, but are definitely going to be trying some other spots.

While there we indulged in this soft pretzel with mustard and since we had an early dinner so we could make it to the show we had hot slices of pizza from Vitos afterwards πŸ™‚

On Wednesday we woke up and worked out at the gym. We had some errands to run which included grabbing bagels and printing our tickets for Universal. We did all of that and made it home, showered, and headed out.

Once we arrived at City Walk I knew I wanted to try Voodoo Donuts. We got their mango jam filled donut with tang dusted on top! B loved it and I thought it was okay-the Tang made it super tart.

We arrived at Universal around 2pm and stayed till they closed that night at 6pm. Rides now vs rides when you were a kid are totally different. I was definitely nauseated after a couple…they were still fun πŸ™‚

Of course when we went to Harry Potter world we had to get some butter beer. We got the frozen version and boy was it sweet and delicious!

I couldn’t believe how realistic they make it all seem and how cool the effects are! I did do a photoshoot with this snowman. Shout out to hubs for always indulging my ridiculousness!

After a full day of being active and being cold we decided to go for some warm comfort food at home. We got takeout Thai from our favorite Thai Blvd Bistro and brought it home. We stuck with our classic favorites-Pad Thai and Panang curry.

Before stopping for Thai food we had made a stop to grab dessert at Porto’s. We love this place and it’s so inexpensive!

Thursday we worked out and found a nice little area to walk. We ended up walking to a lunch spot, Blue Table, we had been to once before and split a turkey sandwich and a steak sandwich.

We walked from there to a frozen yogurt shop and ended up walking around with our frozen treats. We eventually walked back to our car and drove home.

During this time the hubs had been working on making some sourdough. He created starter and he made us a couple of loaves during the break. You guys, sourdough bread warm out of the oven with butter? It is everything!

On Friday we did a hike and went to brunch at our favorite Leo and Lily’s. I got a turkey club and he got a Buffalo chicken sandwich. We split them and they both ended up being just okay! I don’t know if you can tell, but we really love our sandwiches πŸ™‚

Carmel Valley

The hubs and I had a staycation recently, but he planned a surprise getaway for us during the start of our week.

We drove up the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) to head to Carmel Valley and do a couple of hikes along the way. Sadly for us, due to the rain, we didn’t get to do one of the hikes. The other one was short and sweet, but absolutely breathtaking.

That picture definitely does not do it any justice, but the rain definitely added to the beauty and our sense of adventure.

After getting lost along a dirt path and finally finding our way out and back on a nice paved road we arrived at our AirBnB. This place was like a woodsy cabin and all around us was this gorgeous greenery.

It was all windows so we had some beautiful views. There was a television and we were super grateful for the heater inside because it was chilly!

After unloading our things we decided to head out and explore the town a bit. We explored the shops a little and ran into some local places. We found a little shop that had some of the best spreads, dips, and caramel sauces. The great thing was we were able to sample everything πŸ™‚

After a long drive and munching on very few snacks we were ready for an early dinner. We found out that a pizza place we bookmarked was within walking distance of where we already were. Dontchya just love it when things work out like that?

We moseyed on over to Little Napoli where they were pretty full with people. We decided we didn’t want to wait and grabbed a couple of seats by the bar. They had the best pictures on Yelp of this delicious garlic bread-we had to have it.

We also ordered the burrata which came with some roasted red peppers. I won’t lie I thought the burrata would come with crostini or something to eat it with, but it didn’t so we just used our garlic bread. Is it a thing to just eat burrata by the forkful??

We nibbled (who am I kidding, we scarfed down) on our apps and perused the menu to figure out which pizza to order. We settled on their version of a margh (surprise, surprise!).

The pizza was Neapolitan style and it had a crispy crust and gooey cheese. The billowy edges of the pizza and bubbly cheese are always my favorite parts. We weren’t able to finish all of it and took the rest back to the AirBnB for later.

We ended up spending the rest of the night watching The Innocent Man on Netflix until we fell asleep. It was a pretty fantastic first day! I’ll see you Thursday for our SF adventures πŸ™‚

Friday Night Fun

Good morning lovelies! Welcome back to another post πŸ™‚

Every fun filled weekend begins with a good Friday night? Am I right?

Let’s start at the beginning shall we?

We ended up heading to the mall and grabbing some coffee. This iced oat milk latte is a total dream from La Colombe. Honestly, this is hands down one of the best coffee shops ever. Their coffee is always smooth, never bitter. It is perfect the way it is and it doesn’t need sugar, but I do add a little bit of simple syrup for sweetness because it’s me and I like things a little sweet πŸ˜‰

We mosied around and took in the sites until we were ready to head out and find some dinner. We love Vito’s. You all know this, we know this. It’s not a secret. Sorry (notsorry) about the messy box-we ate a slice in the car. Lawwwwdyyy is it delicious when it is super fresh!

Since we were trying to figure out dessert we also headed to Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar. I’ve been wanting to go since it opened, but I am not a fan of huge lines (who is?) so we waited and our patience paid off because we had 2 people in front of us! Winning!!

We had to get her famous crack pie. It’s pretty similar to gooey butter cake if you’ve had it, but this had a cookie crust. To be honest this was our least favorite item. I’m not saying it wasn’t good, but it was just sugar (again not a bad thing, but a tad too much). I know a LOT of people love this item and it’s their favorite thing, but I preferred the other two items much more!

Speaking of other two items we also got the birthday cake truffles. These were yummy! Sweet, but I liked the texture of the crumbly cake and the smooth frosting holding this together. It was definitely a birthday cake flavor which I LOVE!

The last item we bought was a slice of the birthday cake. The hubs and I agreed that this was delicious, but we weren’t sure if it was worth $7 a slice. The frosting was light and airy. The cake was also pretty light, but held up well to the frosting. Thinking back on this cake now I’m a little ashamed to say (babe don’t kill me) but I may pay $7 a slice for this…I mean look at it!20181221_210833

It was all about the experience and we had a VERY enjoyable experience at the bakery. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The decor was so cute! I would recommend a visit if you ever get a chance because they have some yummy sweets and frankly, I think Christina Tosi is pretty awesome. I mean have you seen her on Master Chef?

Full Day of Eating

It’s my first Full Day of Eating post in 2019 and I am here for it!

I love starting my day off with a yummy Β breakfast so today it was a bowl of greens, grape tomatoes, potatoes, and eggs! Noms!!

I’ve been having breakfast later which means later lunch. The only problem with that is during the work week we have earlier dinner so a big lunch means I don’t want to have dinner. My solution? Have a smaller/snackier lunch. I’m happy with that and you guys know I LOVE having little bit of everything so this is perfect!

I decided on a half grilled cheese, greens, tomatoes and a little bit of golden lentil soup from Amy’s.

The other trend you may notice is that I tend to eat the same veggies with most meals. This is because there’s only two of us and I hate buying a bunch of produce and throwing it away because I didn’t have time to use it. To avoid this I will buy a few different veggies and use them up throughout the week.

I’ve also been buying frozen bell peppers to add to eggs and frozen breakfast potatoes because it keeps pretty well and sometimes it’s even a little less expensive.

For dinner we ended up going to an AYCE sushi place called Hikari. It’s actually pretty close to the other AYCE Β sushi place we went to, Maru. This place was delicious, but we still prefer Maru.

Hikari also gave us complimentary green tea ice-cream at the end of our meal. It was sweet and had a very mild green tea flavor!

Meals Lately

I’ve been so busy posting about our trip, but that doesn’t mean that I have forgotten to take snaps of food we’ve been eating since being back home.

I won’t lie most of it is home food and I don’t know if that’s interesting to you guys, but that’s what I’ve been eating so that’s what I’ve taken pictures of πŸ™‚

This first meal was made in a hungry rush! I made a bean and cheese quesadilla and added an egg on top to make it “breakfast.” I feel like you could make anything “breakfast” if you add an egg to it-anyone else?

Donuts for dessert are always highly appreciated in this household. We adore SK Donuts! They have such soft, fluffy yeast donuts and they have a good variety of cronuts too!

This next meal was homemade burgers and fries! Such a simple meal, but so yummy πŸ˜‹

We happened to be at Century City and I could feel my blood sugar crashing so we stopped by Eataly and I had half of this for a snack. It was a cacio e pepe pizza and it was E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

These apple chips were breakfast dessert one particularly ravenous day. I really enjoyed them! I don’t remember ever having apple chips other than in the Fuji apple chicken salad from Panera and I can say I am a fan!
