Philadelphia Day 3

I’m only writing this by itself because my last Philly post seemed like it went on forever!

We started this morning off with workout and then Starbucks. I’m pretty sure I was only half functioning till then anyways! I needed all the beverages-green juice, coffee and unseen water.

Post breakfast B showered and headed to his conference. After he left I showered and then proceeded to catch up on emails and life while watching HGTV.

I looked up some Philly cheesesteak spots in the area and even watched a YouTube video about them.

The universe must have lined up because when B came back for lunch break he announced that one of his fellow peeps had suggested a cheesesteak spot. I had not heard of this one, but was excited to try it regardless!

With a name like Ishkabibble’s you don’t know what to expect, but after a 30 minute walk we were greeted with some pretty delicious smells.

Hubs and I shared a cheesesteak with whiz and onions. We also got two tossed salads. I am not an iceberg fan, but I needed some green in my life! I did not get a pic, but it was iceberg, carrots, tomatoes and onion with Italian dressing.

It was a delicious cheesesteak. All the cheese whiz and onions melted into the steak…this is what the cheesesteak guy on YouTube must have been talking about.

I never thought I would be a cheesewhiz fan, but I am a true believer in trying anything once (sometimes twice-just to be sure πŸ˜… ) and trying it the way it was intended before branching out.

I’m still not sure I would eat cheese whiz on the regs, but this is one way I would eat it again without batting an eye.

We walked back to the hotel so hubs and friends could head back to the conference. I dropped by the hotel and headed back out to explore more of thd area.

I won’t lie after 20 minutes I was hot and uncomfortable so I headed back. Lucky for me I saw this gorgeous mural and took a pic that does it absolutely no justice.

Post mural walking I hung out in the lobby writing this post. When B got done there was a little mingling event that we went to. It was starting to sprinkle outside so lucky for us the event was in the hotel!

After chatting it up we needed to eat! We headed out to Cleavers and the rain started coming down. Lucky for us the walk was a “short” 15 minutes, the rain made it feel longer. Honestly, we were just happy it wasn’t cold and raining. By the time we got there we were giddy and ready for food!

They have cheesesteaks, salads, fries, and dessert so obviously we had to get one of each πŸ˜‰

Hubby ordered their meaty 1lb cheesesteak, spinach salad, garlic parmesan waffle fries, and a chocolate cake. I could not even finish that cheesesteak and I took out half the meat! The fries were garlicky and delicious, the salad spinachy and refreshing, and the cake was moist and chocolatey mmmm…

We walked back to the hotel and popped into a couple of stores on the way to browse around, but thankfully the rain had calmed down to a sprinkle.

We watched some basketball games that were on while getting ready for bed. We stayed up until I simply couldn’t keep my eyes open for another second and that my friends concludes day 3!

 

 

Philadelphia Day 1&2

I’m writing this from the comforts of our Mariott hotel while watching some HGTV πŸ™‚ By the time you guys read this we will be in the comforts of our own home, but I wanted to write this while things were fresh in my head.

Since hubs is at his conference currently and I am tuckered out from walking around Downtown Philly I thought this would be the perfect time!

Our Philly adventures started yesterday (Wednesday) when we boarded a 5ish hour flight from the west coast to the east coast. It was pretty gloomy by the time we made it here and we were jet lagged between the time difference and the motion sickness meds.

We dropped off our bags in our room, got ready for the gym and did a quick 35 minute cardio session to help us feel a little more like ourselves. We still felt out of it, but returned to the room to shower and get ready for dinner!

We were both starving and ready for some food so we headed to Barbuzzo. We were seated immediately and soon realized it was a tapas type place.

We ordered the Artisanal cheese board and their steak dish. The Artisanal cheese board covered everything from soft cheeses to harder types of cheese and had varieties of jams as well. It all came with this large seeded cracker and some bread!

The steak was topped with some fun greens and cooked medium rare, I think. It was good, but ended up just being steak, if that makes sense.

We walked around and found the love sign so obvi had to stop and take a picture! There was the cutest pair of baby sisters posing for pictures for their mom. I had momentary baby fever just looking at them!

It was cold and windy and we are not about that life so we walked swiftly back to the hotel, immediately got cozy and climbed into bed. We watched some TV while falling asleep.

We woke up the next morning with a little more energy and feeling more like ourselves. We decided to grab coffee and breakfast at the Starbucks in the lobby. We both got coffees (I got hot and he got iced), a spinach feta egg white wrap, and sous vide egg whites.

This breakfast held us over for our workout, shower, and prepping the booth for B’s conference.

We headed to lunch at Reading Terminal Market. It reminded me a bit of Grand Central Market in LA or Pikes Place in Seattle. It’s filled with food (prepped and grocery), places selling bags/clothes, and bakeries. It was brimming with people when we went, but the group divvied up to grab food and meet up.

B and I got chicken shawarmas and a smoothie. It can be really hard to get in fruits and veggies during travel and we had the intention of getting a salad with lunch, but it wasn’t possible without making multiple stops and with long lines-nobody got time for that!

Our smoothie had spinach, carrot, mango, strawberries and raspberries. It was not super sweet, but delicious and nutritious.

While the gang headed to their conference I decided to go exploring. I found a cloth and textile museum and took a short walk to get there.

I learned a little bit, but it was a pretty small museum. It was still cool to check out and the lady that works there told me the building had been there for 40 years!

Post museum I wanted to go back and check out Reading Terminal Market. I love wandering around places like this and being able to check it out at a leisurely pace. This time around I bought a couple of dessert items.

My first stop was Flying Monkey that had some yummy looking cupcakes and whoopee pies. I was intrigued by a few of the whoopees and decided to go for a couple.

I asked for suggestions and she recommended mango passion fruit and the original. I had been eyeing the mango passion and I figured the original would be a good starting point.

I also got a chocolate chip cookie from 4th Street Cookie Company. Apparently this place was on the Food Network!

I headed out to see more of Downtown and checked out TJ Maxx and Marshalls while being out and about. I saw Wawa which I heard has good sandwiches and is a great little convenience store.

After walking around I was pretty beat and headed back to the room which is where I’m at right writing this post. I’m going to grab an apple to munch on and chill until it’s time for dinner!

Hubs came back from conference and we sat around figuring out dinner. We decided on a Mediterranean spot, but a few steps in we decided on Luke’s.

They are highly rated on Yelp and are supposed to have delicious lobster rolls so we walked on over. The place was completely empty when we got there. It was a little odd coming from LA and having anything be empty-especially something so highly rated.

We ended up ordering a couple of their sampler’s which comes with a mini lobster, crab, and shrimp roll plus a side. We got a slaw for one and chips for the other. They were good, but nothing I would return for.

 

After this we wanted to see the Rocky stairs so we walked 40 minutes to get to the stairs. Philly is such a beautiful city with such gorgeous architecture. These pictures don’t even do the buildings any justice, but I had to try.

Once we got to Rocky we had to obviously take some pics with him πŸ™‚

We sat and reminisced and enjoyed the cool winds until I got to chilly and was ready to head back home. The sun had set so our walk back was much cooler than our walk there. We got back to the hotel and had our desserts that I picked up earlier.

The cookie-just okay sadly! The whoopee pies were good-the original was the best and the mango passion fruit was, again, just okay.

We climbed in bed and planned our days in NY so we’re a bit more organized for where we will be and make the most of our time there.

San Diego Livin’

I had a conference I needed to attend in SD and hubs came along to chill and study!

I really tried to be present and mindful during the three days and two nights we were here. I didn’t want to be focused on getting a decent pic that I missed the scenery, so to speak.

That being said I did get some snaps of our date night and other random meals.

The first thing we ate in SD was this sandwich. It was a reuben and although it was delicious I couldn’t finish my half! I was so nervous about the conference. I’m definitely one of those people that if I’m nervous I can’t eat!

That night we went out to dinner with some of my fellow conference goers. I didn’t get any pics of our grilled octopus or surf n’turf, but it was yummy. Instead I enjoyed the conversation and savored the ambiance.

I had breakfast at the conference. Pretty basic dish of potatoes, scrambled eggs, fruit. I had green juice and coffee. #allthebevs

The 2nd day was 8 hours and we were fed lunch here. It was Mexican fare and pretty good. I snagged a couple of desserts for hubs and I for later!

We got to have a sweet little date night at Sear Sucker.

We started with the beef tartare which was a first for both of us. It was flavorful and meaty. It was served with potato chips. The chips added an incredible crunch to contrast the smoother texture of the meat.

For our main we shared the short rib and we ordered Brussels and fries as our sides. It was a pretty incredible meal!

We walked around Gaslamp and enjoyed the lights and sounds.

The next day was our last day of conference. I enjoyed the same breakfast.

By the time I was done, B had packed up. I changed into some comfy joggers and we headed out to LA!

Before getting back on the road we decided to stop for lunch at Meze. It’s a pretty highly rated spot on Yelp.

We ordered this shrimp dish that was flambeed tableside. It was one of my most favorite dishes I have had at a Mediterranean spot.

We also had the cilantro jalapeno hummus. You guys, this hummus was incredible. It is the best hummus ever!

Our main was a combo plate with shrimp, beef, and lamb.

Needless to say we were full, but still needed dessert.

We stopped by a nearby ice-cream spot and shared a cup of some cold and creamy deliciousness. We got the Abuelito and birthday cake.

The Abuelito was like a chocolatey cinnamon flavor and it was delicious!

We hit up a Costco for gas and headed home after this! We spend the rest of the day unpacking and getting ready for our upcoming work week and Philly/NY trips!

Roasted Veggies and Cookies

I feel like this title pretty much sums up my life-I love veggies and I love cookies and in order to be a fully functioning me I need both.

We just can’t seem to get enough of roasted veggies. Spring has sprung, but cooler evening temps has me still wanting warm foods so instead of having a salad or steaming my vegetables we’ve been roasting them into golden brown (slightly charred…okay a lot charred) perfection!

Burgers and fries? Nahhhh roasted carrots, broccoli, and brussels will do just fine πŸ™‚

Leaving the nutriently dense part of this post and entering cookie land now πŸ™‚ Hubs heard about how good these Dunkers from Trader Joe’s were. I spotted them while getting groceries the other day and impulsively added them to the cart.

I’m not a crispy cookie person, but there’s something oddly enjoyable about these for me. I think I may prefer the mini chocolate chip Nantucket cookies from Pepperidge Farm over these, but I can’t say I regret buying these. I will be attempting to finish the package…not all at once!

Now for a cookie type I do enjoy-chewy, melty, and filled with chocolate chips.

We made this recipe and used these incredible Guittard baking wafers. These are some expensive chocolate chips, but we tried a few while baking and LORDYY were they the best chocolate “chips” I’ve ever had.

They are not chocolate chip shaped instead they are rounder and flatter. They do great at layering that chocolatey goodness into your cookie.

These cookies turned out incredible! We still have cookie dough in the fridge and it’s killing me to not pick up a spoon and just dig in to it.

Are you guys cookie dough people or cookie people? I LOVE a good cookie and have always enjoyed cookie dough, but after this I can see why people could enjoy the dough more than the cookie. Let’s talk in the comments about your current food loves/obsessions!

OOTD Deconstructed: Spring is Here

After all the rain and cold I’m happy for promises of warmer temps and sunnier days. It has me having all the feels and ready for dresses, jumpers, and skirts! I’m definitely not an OOTD person, but I love putting stuff together and I thought it would be fun to do a deconstructed version of the OOTD.

Anniversary Weekend

This post is a little late, but with work and all I didn’t have the time to get this post up until now! Better late than never? πŸ˜€

We actually started our weekend off Friday evening with Panera, CAVA, and Go Greek for dessert.

After that we headed to the movies to watch Us.Β We love Jordan Peele and his movies, but LORD did this one scare the living bejeezus outta me! I think I cursed more while watching this 2 hour movie than I ever have in my whole life and TMI, but stress sweated like it was my job!

That being said I don’t enjoy scary movies in general, the previews featured before the movie were mostly all other scary movies, and I did burrow my face into hubby’s arms more times than I would like to admit!

After watching the movie we went home and watched some light hearted Netflix shows until we were sleepy.

Saturday, after running some errands we headed to Unheard LA. It’s this show where locals come and tell local stories. It’s put on by a radio station and it was pretty good-some were funny, some were tear-jerkers. The best part? It was totally free!

Hubs had made reservations at Running Goose. We have run across this restaurant many times on Yelp when searching for places to eat, but brushed it aside. It’s a tapas restaurant and this being our first tapas experience we were not sure what to expect!

I don’t know why we were so hesitant about trying this place out. I mean, I’ve talked repeatedly about how much I love trying a few bites of a bunch of different dishes. How did I not put two and two together and see how obsessed I would be with tapas??

I’m done lecturing myself…on to the food!

We basically ordered all their popular things starting with the corn tostada. I was surprised that it was a cold dish, but thoroughly enjoyed it. It was light, fresh, and crispy!

The cod churros were described by our lovely server as “adult fish sticks” and that is exactly what they were! Crispy outside, fluffy inside. Impossible to hold up because they broke apart, but delicious!

Brie which came with apricot compote, roasted garlic, roasted pepitas. It was served with these crunchy pieces of toast. It was sweet and savory and gooey!

Our last savory item was the salmon belly sandwich. Even though we were warned it was spicy and it had a good chance of being spicy with the kimchi and jalapeΓ±os it was not spicy! It was really delicious and savory!

Lucky for us our server stopped us here (we ordered all this at once) and told us that was probably the perfect amount of food for 2 people and we could always order more later. She was absolutely correct-it was the perfect amount of food and left enough space for dessert πŸ™‚

Coconut white chocolate bread pudding with salted caramel ice-cream caught my eye and I couldn’t unsee it so that is what we got! The crunchy outsides and soft insides, the hot and cold-it was all glorious and I need one now!

After dinner, we walked around the area and explored before heading to Target for a few things and then home. We stayed up a little bit watching shows before I fell asleep and we headed to bed!

We didn’t have plans for the next day so we worked out and went to try a new brunch spot-Claudine Kitchen and Bakeshop.

I ordered the Smoked Salmon Lox on Toast Bowl (yes, I know I was confused as well) and hubby did a create your own omelette. We ordered a malted milk pancake to share because #breakfastdessert

My bowl had a LOT of lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled shallots radishes, capers, a boiled egg, and whipped lemon cream cheese. It came with a piece of multigrain toast. It was honestly so good! I was unable to finish the lox so hubs helped me out πŸ™‚

I did not try the omelette, but it came with salad and hash browns and you know I tried the hash browns. I couldn’t resist! SO good!

The pancake was the star of the show in my opinion, but hubs did not think it was as amazing as I did. It was a little cakier and more flavorful than a regular pancake. It drank up all the syrup and LORDY was it just the most amazing pancake I have ever had!

After breakfast we walked around and spotted a Home Goods/Marshalls combo and went in. We looked around trying to find a bread proofing basket to no luck and then tried to find a dutch oven. We did find a dutch oven, but didn’t know it was a dutch oven which lead to more stores until realizing our mistake and returning to ANOTHER Home Goods to buy it.

After all the running around we were pretty beat! We chilled around for a while and by that I mean doing some meal prep for the week which included making our current favorite Green Goddess Dip.

After all of that we finally got around to our new Sunday tradition. Burger night! I feel like every Sunday for a while now we’ve been making burgers and roasted veggies. I’m kinda loving it!

I honestly cannot remember what we had for dessert, but we had an early night since we both had work the next day. I know it was a long post so if you made it this far all the high-fives to you!

 

Fab Fit Fun Spring Box

Besides all the other wonderful things hubs did and planned for my birthday, he also got me another Fab Fit Fun box.

He did some add ons this time around which were a fun little surprise! I thought it would be fun to share the unboxing and show you guys the add ons πŸ™‚

Add on numero uno was this necklace which came the day before the box arrived. It’s the Pisces symbol. I’m definitely a dainty necklace/jewelry gal and although this Pisces symbol is bold I loved the delicate chain and the beautiful gold details.

The second one arrived in the box and were the deluxe Murad samples. He knows how much I love skin care and trying new things and added this!

Now for the actual box!

This season’s box had this gorgeous short sleeved floral robe! It will definitely be perfect for the warmer months and I am so looking forward to wearing it! It feels light and soft and I love the pattern.

This champagne body scrub is something I am excited to use and see how much I like it. I love the packaging on it too-so pretty!

I don’t use a lot (or any) product in my hair other than my regular shampoo and conditioner. I do put coconut oil in my hair once a week as a deep conditioner and wash it off, but I am a little intrigued and scared of this Ouai leave in conditioner. The smell is nice, fresh and clean. I’ve currently pawned it off on my husband, but I may have to try it out!

Tula isn’t a skin care line I’ve heard a lot about, but this probiotic wash intrigues me. I’m interested in looking into it before using it, but it’s always nice to have a back up of face wash!

The box came with this beautiful necklace as well. It’s a lovely light chain and I love the bar with the white stone in it. So pretty!

I have yet to use or find an eye cream, ointment, anything really. This box included a Dr. Brandt eye de-puffing gel and I am curious to see how it works and what it will do.

I broke a favorite pair of my sunglasses a while ago and I’ve been on the hunt for something similar. Even though this is a little different I am so excited about these Quay sunglasses. I’ve heard great things about them and they look so fun on!

This last product is definitely one of my favorite things in the box. The Lavido lotion with mandarin, orange, and bergamot smells so delicious, fresh, and clean I just can’t get enough!

birthday week

Hello all!

Thanks for stopping by for another post! Last week was my birthday and it was a fun week with treats and sweets and lots of love ❀️

Hubs got me some gorgeous flowers and my perfect card…I mean c’mon!

And then I got more flowers from my in-laws. It was so sweet! I love me some flowers and it’s been so great having these beautiful pops of color everywhere in the house.

I had to go in for a meeting at work my co-workers Β did a sweet potluck and got me this beautiful and delicious chocolate cake!

I started my Friday off like any other with a workout, cleanup, and shower. I had a slice of bread with some PB for breakfast.

I kept things pretty chill during the day and when B got home from work we ventured out to do a few errands and grab some dinner. We decided on Poquito Mas-he got a burrito and I got tacos.

We also had some cookies for dessert…more to come on this later πŸ˜‰

Saturday morning was met with a workout and Chick-fil-a breakfast. We showered quickly to headed out to a painting class. This is B’s painting…he always does such a great job at these things!

After class we went to find some late lunch. Our initial idea was to head to Fiore for sandwiches, but they were out of bread. I was devastated, but pulled it together to find Monte 52!

We ordered a Red Dragon which we added turkey. It was so yummy with tomato, avocado, red onion, lettuce and lots of mustard and red dragon cheese. I had never heard of it, but it’s cheese with mustard and it definitely brought a punch!

The other sandwich was a roast beef with horseradish aioli, cheddar cheese, and fried onions. This one had a nice spicy kick, but not too spicy. It was so yummy!

We headed closer to home and wandered around the mall thinking about our evening plans. We decided to head to a Redbox and finally rent Instant Family. It was such a cute movie-funny and emotional all at the same time.

After such a late lunch it was around 9pm when we decided to head out to dinner. Il Fornaio seemed like a great option. It was close by and open and I had never been!

Upon being seated we immediately were served warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread was fluffy on the inside and crusty on the outside. Bread. Heaven.

We spotted the Antipasto Di Pesce which was seared ahi tuna, spicy grilled calamari, scallops and shrimp. My favorite was the spicy grilled calamari, but honestly everything on this plate was delicious! It was well cooked and so flavorful!

For our main we split a dish off their seasonal menu, Trenette all Riminese. It was housemade spinach and egg pasta with shrimp, scallops, crab, tomatoes, shallots, and arugula. I’m usually a tomato based pasta girl, but this was delicious!

Our sweet server brought us a tiramisu for dessert on her! This is hands down one of the best tiramisu I have ever had. It was light and creamy and oh so dreamy!

Sunday morning we woke up and I decided against the gym and instead we “hiked” through a hilly neighborhood. A few up and down hills later we found a couple of more sandwiches to eat at The Carving Board.

We had their turkey dinner sandwich. This was a take on a left over Thanksgiving sandwich with stuffing, turkey, gravy, and cranberries. I really enjoyed this and the whole time I was eating it I kept thinking about FRIENDS and that scene with Ross and his turkey sandwich with the moistmaker. Anybody else?

Surprising for us our other sandwich was also turkey based. It was a cold sandwich with onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, and mayo. This also had cranberries. It was fresh and crunchy and had all the ingredients to a good sandwich!

We had some grocery shopping to do, but we needed something sweet. From the sandwich shop we walked to Whole Foods and on our way their we spotted Uba Tuba. We had never tried it so we got the super mini dessert portion of their acai bowl. It was the perfect little sweet treat.

 

We could pick two toppings so hubby got strawbs and nanas. I got bananas and sweet and condensed milk. It came with honey as well! It was light and refreshing and I could totally go for another one right now…

While at WF we spotted these individual yogurt bars. If it looks familiar it’s because we’ve been getting the strawberry and vanilla version of these from Costco. I quite badly wanted to try the hazelnut flavor so we did πŸ™‚

After roaming around WF and finishing up groceries at Trader Joes we came home and unloaded our goods. We went for another walk and it started raining!

Thankfully it was a short walk and we had thought ahead to wearing hooded jackets so it was okay. We did some Yelping to figure out what we should have for dinner and decided we needed to check out Johnny Pacific again.

We ordered 4 empanadas-2 chicken al pastor and 2 beef tingas and got the chicken skewers which came with rice and salad.

The beef tingas were our favorite out of the 2 and we really loved the whole meal. The flavors were really great and we will definitely be going back!

Full Day of Eating on a Friday

By the end of the week our fridge is usually running low on produce so if I’m at home I’m usually eating the last bits and pieces of our fruit and veg. This particular Friday I didn’t realize we had no kale so I decided I would just have some tomatoes with my morning toast πŸ™‚

I did have breakfast dessert in the form of a mandarin, but that obviously went unpictured…shmurp.

Lunch was half of the last piece of naan bread topped with some sardine “salad” I threw together. I heated up some frozen broccoli since I was craving something green and tomatoes because I needed to use them up. Not very appetizing looking, but it was really delicious and nutritious πŸ˜‰

Again mandarins were had, but nowhere to be found in my phone. Quite the mystery…

We had planned our dinner for Friday night, but had not done any of the shopping for it so once the hubby got home we did some grocery shopping to have our burger night.

We found these delicious challah rolls from Whole Foods. They were crusty on the outside and so so so soft on the inside. I was in bread heaven!

We made a stop at Sprouts to get some ingredients for this Green Goddess dip I had seen on Queer Eye on Netflix plus ground beef and other essentials.

We created an amazing side of roasted cauliflower that we dipped in the delicious Green Goddess dip we made. I highly suggest making the dip! It’s so yummy and herby and noms!

We obv also had these amazing burgers in the most incredible buns. A co-worker had gifted (kinda forced) some white cheddar on me and so we used that to top our burger. We both felt like we had found our best burger situation…the bun, the cheese, the meat, seasoning-it was all perfection!

Another thing we picked up at Sprout’s were these mochi ice-cream that we saw. They were new and the flavors were intriguing so we obviously had to try a few! I think I prefer the fruit flavored mochi ice-cream over these, but they were still tasty!

Exercise Lately

Working out is something I hold near and dear to my heart. I don’t remember how or when it happened, but after many years of working out it is now a part of me. It’s now a need more than a want, it keeps me sane, and it’s a part of my life.

I work 3 days a week, 12 hour shifts and I’m on my feet a majority of that time. Because of that I don’t work out on days I work. Instead I save my workouts for my days off. Whether it’s at home or at the gym I try to make the most of it!

At home recently I’ve been more into trading off between HIIT and pilates type workouts. I like having a good variety in my workouts since I get bored when I don’t change it up now and then. I’ve got some dumbbellsΒ (5lb and 10lb) and resistance bands at home. These are great for some extra resistance, but you can always use your own body weight for that!

At the gym I jump around between machines and free weights to get a good burn πŸ™‚ I also like a few of the cardio machines and tend to jump between them to keep it interesting. This is a lot easier when you have some good music or some Youtube to watch!

At our house we also love getting in a good walk. It works for us on busier days because we can catch up and talk or vent and get some energy out. We love a good hilly neighborhood for these days because you get your heart rate up too.

I don’t think there is one type of exercise that will work for everybody. It’s about having fun and getting your body moving. I don’t remember ever having worked out and left thinking, “man I wish I hadn’t bothered.” I’m usually much happier post workout regardless of how unmotivated I was before.

I don’t know if this was necessarily useful information, but I like doing these posts to keep you guys filled in on what’s been going on with my workouts. I know I talk a LOT about food a LOT of the time, but I love being my best, healthiest, most balanced self and that includes pizza, but it also includes working out!
