V-Day Weekending

As much as I would have LOVED to get this post out on Monday life and work tend to get in the way of well intentioned plans soooo….here we are on Thursday talking about what the hubs and I got up to this past weekend!

I got a serious hankering for BJ’s buffalo chicken pizza on Friday so when B got home we compromised and got half buffalo chicken and half bbq chicken-we DEVOURED this pizza!

20190215_204533

Knowing how much I obsessed I am with food and how much I love dessert B had ordered some cookies for us from PDX Cookie Co. He ordered their variety pack which arrived just in time for our V-Day weekend! I am not kidding when I tell you these cookies were seriously packed with all the goodies and were super delicious…also, super incredible warmed up!

20190215_210328

Pizza and cookies=great start to any weekend? Amiright?

Saturday we woke up, had coffee, and headed to the gym! Post workout we had plans to head over to the mall and finally combine our phone plans to one carrier (we’ve been married for almost 3 years now-it was time). This is a task I had been dreading, but it went so smoothly that I kept talking about how easy and wonderful the process was.

After all this excitement we went home and I ate the lonely slice of BBQ chicken pizza that was left from Friday night πŸ™‚

The rest of the day was spend running errands, perusing through our favorite mall and figuring out what we should do for dinner. We had very well intentioned plans to have dinner at a Brazilian Steakhouse. I had made reservations in advance and we were really excited about the whole thing until we got to the day of the reservation. Suddenly, we wanted everything but steak…anybody else have this dilemma?

We went back and forth on a few options until deciding on Rosie’s BBQ. We ordered a beef rib each, their Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and a side of their baked fries. Sadly I got pictures of none of our dinner on Saturday night so I am very sorry about that 😦

Their was nothing Nashville hot about this chicken sandwich. It was a pretty sad chicken sandwich at that. It was this super thin chicken patty that had absolutely no spice. I turned to hubby and wondered if they had messed up our order…who knows?

The beef ribs were yummy per usual and the fries were the star of the show. They were fat wedge type fries which I normally do not like, but these were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They were seasoned so perfectly! LOVED these fries!

We had more cookies for dessert πŸ™‚

We woke up Sunday morning and did some grocery shopping for the week. We then took a brisk walk around our neighborhood since we were not planning on heading to the gym. Snacked a bit before heading out to a super late lunch/very early dinner situation with our friends.

Before meeting up with the friends we explored Olvera Street and Union Station. It was super cool to check out the vendors at Olvera Street. The sights and smells were incredible and overwhelming. I didn’t know where to look!

We made one last quick stop at Fugetsu Do for a couple of pieces of mochi. If you haven’t been here or tried their sweet creations you absolutely need to. Their mochi is so soft and incredible. We got a red bean and a blueberry Β mochi for dessert!

20190217_195215

I had been wanting to check out Bun Shop for a minute and figured this would be a good excuse to try out their baos. I had a spicy chicken bao and a beef bao. Hubs had the same and we shared some of their Yoshi fries.

20190217_164318

I definitely preferred the beef bao. It had a fried onion on top of it which added a nice crunchy texture to the soft meaty bun. I do wish the buns themselves held together a bit better-they were both split on the bottom which made it a little difficult to eat. The fries were really yummy with the addition of the furikake seasoning!

After spending a good amount of time catching up we all went our separate ways, but before the hubs and I went home we made one last stop at 85 Degrees. I think we both were craving the milk buns, but got a couple of other treats too πŸ™‚

20190217_185207

We made it home with time to watch some Netflix before bed! It wasn’t the most traditional V-Day weekend, but as long as we are spending time together we are pretty happy! I hope you all had a lovely V-Day weekend!!

What did you guys do this past weekend?

Floral and Fruity

I don’t think this is ground breaking or anything, but I am all about smelling like a super scented sweet, floral garden at all times. I love smelling good, but who doesn’t? I haven’t always known though what kind of “scent person” I am. Some people are super sweet, fruity, floral, musky, etc.Β I am definitely a 90% floral person with like 10% fruity and sweet.

This post was brought on by my most recent perfume purchase at Sephora. It was a scent that almost brought me to tears because that is how good it smelled (it’s the last product I mention in this post). It made me realize how passionate I am about good smells and I thought it would be fun to share some things I have been using to keep myself smelling like the most floral unicorn in all the land πŸ˜€

After talking about how much I love floral this Palmer’s Cocoa Butter doesn’t make much sense, BUT I’m a nurse and I can’t wear anything super scented at work. This is perfect for that! It smells like cocoa, but the scent doesn’t last and isn’t very strong.

I discovered Palmer’s sometime last year and it has been my go to. The skin on my body tends to be dry so I love a good thick moisturizer and this definitely does the trick. It’s been great especially in the winter!

20190131_115714

This is a little extra and I may use this one by itself in the summer, but I will put this Rose and Vanilla Body Cream from Bath and Body on top of the Palmer’s. I usually do this when we’re going out because I love the scent, but during this season it’s not hydrating enough by itself.

20181115_104901

I’m a major sucker for packaging and I always fall for these VS body sprays. Both of these fall into the floral/fruity/sweet that I love. I mentioned these last year and they are still going strong! I spray one or the other (depending on my mood) post shower and no matter how crazy my wet hair is I just feel pretty and put together.

20180723_120839

Elizabeth and James Nirvana White may not be a thing anymore? I was trying to find it online and had no luck, but I have this in the roller ball and it’s a really beautiful scent. It’s floral and clean and sophisticated-I had no idea this was described as a floral scent until I read a description of it, but I guess a girl likes what she likes πŸ˜‰

20171203_083112

I got this Chloe perfume around December 2017 I think?! I was super obsessed with it at that time and I still love it. It’s a really lovely rose scent that’s perfect for more than just spring or summer. I don’t know if it would be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like rose scented things you will probably like this.

IMG-20171203-WA0002

I almost cried (happy tears) when I smelled this next item at Sephora. Seriously. I’m that passionate about good smells! I didn’t buy it at that time, had a lot of regret, and went back to a different Sephora the very next day and snatched one up. Dolce Garden is everything to me at the moment and I wish you could smell it through this post. Floral and fruity-this perfume just makes me so happy ever time I smell it.

20190127_113110

That’s all for my post, but I would love to hear what some of your favorite scents are! Talk to me in the comments below πŸ™‚

Loving

Hello, hello! I thought it would be fun to share some of the things I’ve been currently into…I want to keep this post short and sweet so let’s jump in πŸ™‚

My Sedu straightener finally gave up and gave out. It was a good long 10 year run and it did a great job of straightening my hair without damaging it, but I was ready to try another brand. I took a leap and got this Kristin Ess 3 in 1 straightener and so far I have been loving it! It does a really great job and it’s so beautiful! White and gold? My heart!

20190122_075638

I’ve been wanting this book since the moment it came out, but for whatever reason waited to buy it. I love books by strong women-it’s so inspiring and I just feel so motivated after. If you haven’t read it yet I would definitely recommend!

20190122_130555

I’ve been looking for a dress for an occasion that is months and months away. It will actually be during the summer so I wanted something summery, light, and classy? Does that make sense? Anywho, I found this dress at Aritzia and snagged it up! It’s my first Aritzia purchase and I just keep trying it on and going head over heels…

That is all I got for now! Have you guys read anything you couldn’t put down? Let me know in the comments below πŸ™‚

Mini LA Food Crawl

We had been meaning to go around the city and try out some pizza places so we ended up doing just that along with a couple of pit stops for a fish taco and another for pies πŸ˜€

This is maybe more of a mini food crawl, but it was still tasty and fun! At each of these places except the pie place we shared one item so we weren’t super stuffed and sick.

Our first stop was Mulberry Street Pizzeria.

20190112_125954

The pizza was SUPER thin, but maintained it’s crispiness. I did some serious damage to my mouth because it was SUPER hot, but it was so worth it.

20190112_130143

Ricky’s Tacos was another place we had heard so much about.Β They are known for their fish tacos. The truck lists their many taco accolades including being one of the top fish tacos in the nation!

20190112_133127

The fish in this taco was light and had a really great crunch from the batter, the cabbage added some much needed freshness to the fried fish. The tortilla did a great job of holding everything together. We topped it with the spicy salsa and their special mix of mayo and mustard and it was simply delicious!

20190112_134033

Pizzanista was our next stop!

20190112_140333

This place had the most interesting pies and the great thing is they have vegan pizza with vegan cheese and “meat.” Since we were comparing pizzas we had to get a slice of cheese. They were kind and split it for us.

20190112_141020

There was a lot more cheese on this slice and the crust was thicker. It was a good slice of pizza, but not my favorite compared to other spots!

We walked to our next and final place-The Pie Hole. Pie Hole has sweet and savory pies to please the whole crowd. We got two of their more popular pies-The Earl Grey and the Cereal Pie.

20190112_144642

The Earl Grey was very light and smooth. I tasted more chocolate then tea. The filling was nice and fluffy, but contrasted with pistachios sprinkled throughout.

20190112_144805

The Cereal Pie was denser. The filling was similar to cheesecake in texture and had fruity pebbles mixed in. It was topped with a few different cereals you may remember from your childhood (or last night) like Fruit Loops and Lucky Charms.

20190112_144757

They were both very different and very delicious!

The two places we would go back to are probably Mulberry Street and Pie Hole! It’s not that Pizzanista and Ricky’s didn’t taste yummy and in fact I recommend you try all four of these places if you get the chance!

Have you ever done a food crawl where you live? What’s your favorite spot?

Sundays are for Dim Sum

After reading Mackenzie’s post about her dim sum experience I was dying to go. The hubs had gone once before, but I never had and I wanted, I needed, to go.

We went to Bao Dim Sum House and had a quick glance at the menu before deciding on what to get. They aren’t walking around with dishes instead you just order and they will bring it to your table.

20190113_122541

After we ordered we were brought some sauces to dip our dumplings in. There was a chili sauce and a creamy wasabi sauce. You really had to be careful with the creamy wasabi because it looks like harmless peanut sauce, but it’s a real punch to your sinuses.

20190113_123200

We ended up mixing the two and it created a nice melody of spicy savory goodness.

We got the Har Gow (shrimp dumplings). These were good. The outside was nice and thin, but didn’t too well holding up to the shrimp filling inside. They were better when dipped in sauce since they didn’t have much flavor on their own.

20190113_123428

I wanted to try a bun and since all their buns had pork except for the veggie one we ordered the Veggie Bun. I LOVED the texture of the bun. It was so incredible, but I will say it needed something meatier to hold up to the carby goodness of the bun.

20190113_124003

The spicy chicken dumplings were our favorite. It was ground chicken with spices. This one held together better than the shrimp!

20190113_123424

We got the chicken and spinach potstickers and they ended up being my second favorite. I really enjoyed the sear on them. They were super hearty!

20190113_124334

I was super curious about the crispy crab and shrimp balls, but can say these were my least favorite. It was too fried and greasy and I didn’t even eat the half that hubs put on my plate.

20190113_124000

After dim sum we walked to Four Winters. It’s a little ice-cream shop where they make your ice-cream right in front of you.

20190113_131426

I got the Knafeh which is sweet cream ice-cream with vermicelli, pistachio, and rose syrup. I think it was an homage to baklava. I loved it so much-it was sweet and crunchy!

20190113_131754

The hubby got a cookie dough and it was brimming with cookie dough pieces. He really enjoyed his too πŸ™‚

20190113_131705

All in all I can say it was such a great and cool experience. I love how many different kinds of dumplings there are and the textures between each thing is interesting and fun! If you’ve never had dim sum I highly encourage you to give it a try!

What’s your favorite dim sum item?

Staycation

The hubs and I had a week off together and instead of flying out somewhere like we normally do we decided to stick around home and discover some places, food, things that we had not yet explored in LA.

The night (Tuesday night) we made our steak dinner from Sun Basket we went to a comedy show. We love comedy and there’s plenty of it in LA. We love the Comedy Store, but are definitely going to be trying some other spots.

20190108_171542

While there we indulged in this soft pretzel with mustard and since we had an early dinner so we could make it to the show we had hot slices of pizza from Vitos afterwards πŸ™‚

20190108_20071920190108_215145

On Wednesday we woke up and worked out at the gym. We had some errands to run which included grabbing bagels and printing our tickets for Universal. We did all of that and made it home, showered, and headed out.

Once we arrived at City Walk I knew I wanted to try Voodoo Donuts. We got their mango jam filled donut with tang dusted on top! B loved it and I thought it was okay-the Tang made it super tart.

20190109_142322

We arrived at Universal around 2pm and stayed till they closed that night at 6pm. Rides now vs rides when you were a kid are totally different. I was definitely nauseated after a couple…they were still fun πŸ™‚

Of course when we went to Harry Potter world we had to get some butter beer. We got the frozen version and boy was it sweet and delicious!

20190109_153844

I couldn’t believe how realistic they make it all seem and how cool the effects are! I did do a photoshoot with this snowman. Shout out to hubs for always indulging my ridiculousness!

20190109_174601

After a full day of being active and being cold we decided to go for some warm comfort food at home. We got takeout Thai from our favorite Thai Blvd Bistro and brought it home. We stuck with our classic favorites-Pad Thai and Panang curry.

20190109_194434

Before stopping for Thai food we had made a stop to grab dessert at Porto’s. We love this place and it’s so inexpensive!

Thursday we worked out and found a nice little area to walk. We ended up walking to a lunch spot, Blue Table, we had been to once before and split a turkey sandwich and a steak sandwich.

20190110_13100520190110_131019

The steak was the favorite!

We walked from there to a frozen yogurt shop and ended up walking around with our frozen treats. We eventually walked back to our car and drove home.

During this time the hubs had been working on making some sourdough. He created starter and he made us a couple of loaves during the break. You guys, sourdough bread warm out of the oven with butter? It is everything!

On Friday we did a hike and went to brunch at our favorite Leo and Lily’s. I got a turkey club and he got a Buffalo chicken sandwich. We split them and they both ended up being just okay! I don’t know if you can tell, but we really love our sandwiches πŸ™‚

20190111_13484820190111_134900

I think I will leave it off here because Saturday deserves it’s own post. We did a little food crawl around LA and it was super tasty πŸ˜‰

Do you guys enjoy staycations?

Sun Basket

Happy Monday Morning!

I hope you’re having a great start to your week! I wanted to share with you a recent meal subscription we decided to try. We had some time off and thought it would be fun to not just eat out, but also get back in the kitchen and make some tasty meals.

20190107_170214

I did some research and found that Sun Basket was one we hadn’t tried and their meals looked delicious! We ordered recipes for 2 people for 3 times a week.Β For our first box we picked a Mongolian Beef and Spinach, Steak with Mushroom Pan Sauce and Brussels, and a Salmon and Eggplant dish.

We came home Monday to find our box waiting for us at the front door and were so excited to dive in. We decided to make the Mongolian Beef dish that night. This was a super quick and easy meal to make. It was flavorful-I loved the gingery, garlicy beef paired with the fluffy rice and wilted spinach. We added in the roasted broccoli for some extra nutrition. This was our favorite meal out of the box!

20190107_201723

The very next day we decided to go ahead and try the Steak with Mushroom Pan Sauce. Again, it was a 20 minute meal-super quick and came together very easily with 2 people in the kitchen. Even if it was just one person in the kitchen this would be super quick.

We had never made a pan sauce and we ended up loving the mushroom one paired with the steak. Everything was cooked and seasoned so well! Loved this meal!

20190108_171542

Our third was the salmon and eggplant dish. Sadly, I think our eggplant may have gone bad by this time, but it was not our favorite dish. Maybe it was because we like a good pan sear on our seafood? I’m not sure, but the flavors didn’t seem to go well together. Everyone has different tastes and so you may love it if you love saucier fish dishes, but for us not a winner…

20190111_213754

Hubby said at the end of our cooking adventure that this may have been his favorite meal subscription box. I may have to agree! It had fun flavors and things we wouldn’t think about throwing together.

Have you tried Sun Basket? What did you think?

Back to SF

We woke up Sunday morning to a really gorgeous view of the sun rising outside of our AirBnB. We showered, packed up our things, and headed out for the second leg of our adventure to SF.

We stopped by a Safeway to grab some snacks for our drive to SF and I need a cup of coffee in the morning so we stopped by a local coffee shop to grab some and plan out our day.

20190106_093935

We started our drive and munched on some bluebs. We ended up driving to downtown SF to check out a mall and walk around. It was raining so we were wanting to stay warm and cozy…this thought didn’t last long πŸ™‚

20190106_111912.jpg

Soon enough our hunger creeped in and we decided to hit up Limoncello for some sandwiches. If you’ve been to SF you know how hard it is to find parking so once you aren’t leaving. This sandwich spot was a 30 minute walk, but feeling adventurous we decided we were up for it.

You guys it was pouring down rain so hard that we had to stop in at a CVS to buy an umbrella. We finally made it completely soaked, but super excited for our sandwiches.

We got a turkey pesto and a pastrami sandwich. We added their spicy sauce for both and they were both fantastic. I can’t tell you which one to get because the hubby liked the pastrami better and I liked the turkey.

20190106_144929

20190106_162129

By the way, they were massive sandwiches and totally shareable. We actually ate the turkey first and then had the pastrami later on.Β After the sandwich we decided to go and check out the Painted Ladies. I just love these houses and how cute they are!

20190106_151355

We headed to our next AirBnB so we can get freshened up and get our stuff unloaded. The house was so cute!

20190106_154155

The bedroom was done in a cheerful yellow and super cozy and clean! We rested for a little bit and listened to the rain spatter on the windows and roof.

20190106_155633

We headed out to the comedy show at Neck of the Woods. It was a pretty good lineup. There were definitely some that were funnier than others. After the show we discovered we were close to Burma Superstar.

20190106_190042

It’s a super highly rated restaurant on Yelp and our friends had recommended the spot to us as well.

20190106_204053

We started with a couple of apps-their well known Tea Leaf Salad. It’s seriously the most interesting salad I have ever had. It’s got all these different flavors and textures…SO MUCH crunch! I loved that they mix it up for you table side.

20190106_204510

We also ordered Platha Dip. It was this super flaky, layered “bread”-similar to an Indian version of paratha-that was served with a warm coconut curry. The curry was savory and perfectly spiced.

20190106_204515

Even though we had every intention of ordering an entree, after having the Platha Dip we had seriously no room. We were full and done! I hope we eventually get the chance to go back and check out an entree or two πŸ™‚

We headed back to the AirBnB for a goodnights rest! We woke up Monday morning to a little bit of sunshine. We stopped by a Panera for a couple of yogurt parfait’s before heading home.

20190107_091808

Have you guys been to Burma Superstar? What did you think?

Carmel Valley

The hubs and I had a staycation recently, but he planned a surprise getaway for us during the start of our week.

20190105_122357.jpg

We drove up the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) to head to Carmel Valley and do a couple of hikes along the way. Sadly for us, due to the rain, we didn’t get to do one of the hikes. The other one was short and sweet, but absolutely breathtaking.

20190105_121624

That picture definitely does not do it any justice, but the rain definitely added to the beauty and our sense of adventure.

After getting lost along a dirt path and finally finding our way out and back on a nice paved road we arrived at our AirBnB. This place was like a woodsy cabin and all around us was this gorgeous greenery.

20190105_145450

It was all windows so we had some beautiful views. There was a television and we were super grateful for the heater inside because it was chilly!

20190106_085204

After unloading our things we decided to head out and explore the town a bit. We explored the shops a little and ran into some local places. We found a little shop that had some of the best spreads, dips, and caramel sauces. The great thing was we were able to sample everything πŸ™‚

After a long drive and munching on very few snacks we were ready for an early dinner. We found out that a pizza place we bookmarked was within walking distance of where we already were. Dontchya just love it when things work out like that?

20190105_165201

We moseyed on over to Little Napoli where they were pretty full with people. We decided we didn’t want to wait and grabbed a couple of seats by the bar. They had the best pictures on Yelp of this delicious garlic bread-we had to have it.

20190105_165636

We also ordered the burrata which came with some roasted red peppers. I won’t lie I thought the burrata would come with crostini or something to eat it with, but it didn’t so we just used our garlic bread. Is it a thing to just eat burrata by the forkful??

20190105_165646

We nibbled (who am I kidding, we scarfed down) on our apps and perused the menu to figure out which pizza to order. We settled on their version of a margh (surprise, surprise!).

20190105_171923

The pizza was Neapolitan style and it had a crispy crust and gooey cheese. The billowy edges of the pizza and bubbly cheese are always my favorite parts. We weren’t able to finish all of it and took the rest back to the AirBnB for later.

We ended up spending the rest of the night watching The Innocent Man on Netflix until we fell asleep. It was a pretty fantastic first day! I’ll see you Thursday for our SF adventures πŸ™‚

Have you been to Carmel Valley or Carmel by the Sea?

Saturday Shenanigans

I just love the word shenanigans! I try to not overuse it, but every time I say it, it just makes me so happy! Anyywho, I am having to split this weekend post into two so it’s not super long. You’ll see what we got up to on Sunday on Thursday’s blog πŸ™‚

We started Saturday off a little slow. We had a late Friday and didn’t get up till 9am on Saturday. This is actually super late for us, but it was fine since we didn’t have anything planned for early in the day.

We’ve had this tickets to Magic Mountain for a while so we headed over there and checked out the park. It was a surprisingly warm day and we tuckered out pretty quickly and decided to head to “brunch.”

Sandwiches seemed like a great option so we went to Mendocino and ordered our favorite Peruvian Steak Sandwich and their Pesto Turkey Tartine.

20181222_133238

Neither of use realized that the turkey was a tartine till it came to our table. It was super messy, but pretty delicious. Honestly this did not need to be a tartine, it really needed another slice of bread!

20181222_133627

The steak sandwich was delicious as always-a little spice, a lot of savory.

20181222_133614

We headed to the Grove after this to check out the sights and Christmas decor. When we got there we realized we needed something sweet and ran into this crepe shop.

20181222_145405

We created our own with strawberries, banana, and nutella. Holy cow was this so yummy! We finished this super quick!

20181222_145523

We walked around a little more and then headed back to the car for another little bakery adventure. I’ve talked about Porto’s on the blog before and we LOVE it. It’s a really great bakery and the prices are fantastic.

If you ever have a chance to visit Porto’s I highly recommend it. Depending on when you go the lines look crazy, but they go by super quickly. It also gives you a chance to figure out what you want!

We headed home with our goodies and relaxed for a while until our tummies started to tell us it was dinner time. We found a new sushi place on Yelp, Raku Teriyaki, and decided to give it a go. They had 4.5 stars and 233 reviews so we figured it was a safe bet.

20181222_193806

20181222_193811

We got a few rolls and two orders of nigiri. The nigiri was $6 to add on to a roll so we thought why not?

20181222_193803

20181222_193814

The hubs and I both thought they were good…I may have enjoyed them more then he did πŸ™‚ The fish was fresh and tasty and I always love it when the flavors on the fish complement the fish and not overpower it. Raku did that pretty well!

We had some watermelon kombucha to wash it all down! This is one of my favorite kombucha flavors from this brand.

20181222_194004

We decided to get a “few” items to have for dessert that night and may have gone just a tad overboard. We got their cheese roll, guava and cheese pastry, tres leches cake, flan, chocolate cake, mango mousse, and a hazelnut chocolate cookie. All of this was under $20 and all of it was delicious!

20181222_170355

Don’t be alarmed we definitely sampled all of the things, but did not finish all of it. We ended up warming up the cheese roll the next day in the toaster oven and it was just as good!

It was pretty fantastic foodie Saturday all in all πŸ™‚

What’s your favorite bakery? What do you get from there?
