Our Valentine’s Date

I know I’m a bit late posting this, but I am happy to finally share our Valentine’s Day. Being completely transparent, we hadn’t planned on doing anything major. We were going to stay in, cook dinner, and watch a movie. Everyday is basically Valentine’s Day for me because I get to spend it with the best husband ever, but he knows how much I love a good date night so out we went.

We had no reservations anywhere but forged ahead and walked to an outdoor mall with plenty of options. Our plan was King’s Fish House but the wait would be an hour to an hour and a half. We decided to check out somewhere else and put our names down for Kabuki because the wait was 35 minutes!

While “waiting” we walked around and asked about some other waiting times. Lucille’s BBQ had a wait for three hours!! I was astonished!

Thankfully for us all of that killed some time and we arrived back at Kabuki and chatted for a little while before it was our turn to get seated. We were both so happy to finally be sitting and looking at a menu! To say we went a bit overboard with ordering is being kind.

Anytime we go get sushi we always get edamame. Whether it’s plain or garlicky and spicy we love the stuff. It’s something delicious to munch on and distract you while you wait for everything else. This time was no different and we ordered the spicy garlic edamame.

IMG-20200216-WA0017

This menu had pictures and when I noticed the black miso cod it looked so good so we had to try it. The cod was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The freshness of the cucumbers and carrots that came with it added a nice contrast to the perfectly cooked fish.

IMG-20200216-WA0006

Ever since discovering spicy tuna on crispy rice we always look for it on the menu. There’s something so magical about the tuna piled high on the crispy cake of rice. The texture of the soft fish and the crispy rice patty really make it delectable.

IMG-20200216-WA0016

We ordered three sushi rolls. The first was a nice basic spicy tuna roll. It was good and fresh! Nothing to complain about and nothing to write home about..

IMG-20200216-WA0005

I wish I could remember what the 2nd and 3rd rolls were, but I can’t and I’ve been combing through the menu now for a good 10 minutes and have had no luck figuring it out.

I think the second one was the Sun Kissed Roll with salmon the outside and spicy tuna and avocado on the inside.

IMG-20200216-WA0011

The other had this coconut curry base with red bell pepper, cilantro, and shrimp on top of a California roll (maybe??)..

IMG-20200216-WA0014

We both left feeling fully and happy! It was a little panicky in the beginning trying to figure out a plan B on the fly, but thankfully it all worked out! We had a great time and enjoyed spending some together time…goodness I do love my guy!

For Valentine’s are you guys stay at home and relax to the max people or go out people? Let me know in the comments below!

Christmas in OK

We had a lovely Christmas back at home, but are also happy to be back in a routine after the holidays.

I always feel a bit sad post holiday season, but this year I am happy to get back to day to day.

On the day we arrived we went and stayed at my parents house. I showed hubby family albums and we ate a lot of cookies.

Day 2 was Christmas! Since everything was closed we were restless so we explored some of our old stomping grounds and reminisced about the past and the changes. We decided to grab lunch at IHOP (it was the only thing open)! Pancakes, omelettes, and burgers galore.

IMG-20200101-WA0015IMG-20200101-WA0017

Day 3 we finally had the opportunity to hit up the gym and we headed to B’s parent’s house. Before that we had grabbed some treats from Trader Joe’s and had the fam meet us at Torchy’s for tacos.

IMG-20200101-WA0002

Day 4 we went to the gym and hung out until dinner time. We checked out a mall and went to Ted’s. I guess we missed our Tex-Mex! Andy’s frozen custard was walking distance so we obviously had to check it out 😁😋

IMG-20200101-WA0006IMG-20200101-WA0021

Day 5 included another gym session and eating leftover Ted’s post workout. It’s a commonly known fact that when you go to Ted’s you end up filling up on tortillas, chips, salsa and queso so you take home your entree and that is what happened. It made for a yummy meal! We got some donuts from Hurts donuts for dessert #health. We headed to my parent’s for the night and hung out for a bit before calling it a night!

IMG-20200101-WA0019IMG-20200101-WA0011

On Sunday, we woke up dark and early at 4am to get to the airport the next day. We flew home with no bumps or delays and arrived home to run errands and get ready for the week of New Year’s and a busy work week! We had some Blaze pizza with high rise dough this time and cupcakes from our favorite place! We hit the hay quite early-we were pooped!

IMG-20200101-WA0018

That, my friends, concludes our Christmas! I hope you all had a lovely holiday!!

Happy New Year

Trader Joe’s Treats Review

We absolutely love Trader Joe’s all year round but the seasonal stuff really gets us giddy. I cannot tell you how many videos I’ve watched and blog posts I’ve read hauling and reviewing Trader Joe’s goodies this season-it’s definitely been an obsession.

Over Thanksgiving break we had hauled quite a few goodies from Trader Joe’s to try out for ourselves and since I love posts like these I figured I would share our thoughts 🙂

Jumping into our first item are the Apple Cider Cake Donuts. These were coated in cinnamon sugar on the outside which would lead you to believe they may fall in the too sweet category, but these were very mild in sweetness. In terms of texture this fell on the dryer side of things, but not in an unpleasant way. I wasn’t reaching for water with every bite, but maybe every few bites? We really enjoyed these, but I don’t think they would be a staple in our house.

IMG-20191130-WA0001

The Danish Kringle in almond was something we had no idea what to expect. I knew it was a pastry and people absolutely love it, but we aren’t big pastry people (usually). THIS though was fantastic. The almond paste filling was super nice if you enjoy the flavor-if you don’t then stay away! I will also say this was SUPER sweet between the filling and the icing on top. We tried warming a piece in the microwave and in the toaster oven. The toaster oven definitely had the better texture, but be careful because the icing becomes super hot super fast.

Steering away from the sweets for a minute to check out these Cornbread Poppers. These were filled with pepperjack cheese and serrano chilis, but they are by no means spicy in any way. The outside was a cornbread with the inside filling being a gooey cheese, but when I got these I had assumed it would be a cornbread ball that had cheese and serrano chilis mixed in. Because it wasn’t that I think I was a bit disappointed, but overall these were pretty yummy.

IMG-20191130-WA0010

The Soft Baked Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies are something we had been eying for a long time. I had one cookie from this and hubby finished the pack so it’s probably safe to say I thought they were fine and he LOVED them. These are super peanut-buttery in flavor and the chocolate chips felt a bit like an afterthought. If you love peanut butter cookies you will definitely enjoy these!

Staying in the cookie category this next purchase was an impulse buy. We were in line waiting to check out when we saw the customer next to us had these in her basket. Thank God TJ’s isn’t a big store because I was able to speed walk there and back in good time to check out. All that being said, these were a fail for us. I am not a big fan of crispy cookies and that is what all of these were. In my head I was imagining a variety of butter cookies, but I definitely should have looked at the images a bit closer. As I always say after one of these incidents, “at least now we know!”

The last item are these Ridge Cut Potato Chips with Horseradish and Chive. These were nice and crunchy, but not as crunchy as a kettle chip. In terms of flavor they are very similar to a sour cream and onion with a hint of horseradish. I feel like horseradish lovers and those who aren’t horseradish fans would enjoy these. I know hubby thought these were just okay, but I’ll probably have some with sandwiches and finish off the bag. The combination of us not buying chips often enough and there being a large amount of chips in the world to try I can say safely we probably won’t be rebuying these.

IMG-20191130-WA0025

If you stuck it out this long thank you so much and I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it! I know all these items weren’t seasonal, but what are some of your current favorite Trader Joe’s goodies (seasonal or not)?

Have a great week and happy Monday!

What we ate on Thanksgiving

The past few years we have made burgers for Thanksgiving, but this year we decided to switch it up and go a bit more traditional. I won’t lie we didn’t really make anything from scratch (other than the Brussels we roasted and ate for breakfast 😀 ), but the meal ended up being pretty delicious!

IMG_20191128_134350

We had both sweet and regular mashed potato. The mashed potato ended up being our favorite out of these two-although I will say that the mashed potatoes weren’t as garlicky as I thought they would be?

A corn casserole dish…or as Trader Joe’s calls it Corn Pudding. This was interesting in that the top was the texture of flan.

IMG_20191128_131534

We obviously had to have gravy and were super pleased to find that Good & Gather had made a turkey gravy. This was super umami in flavor and really brought the meal together.

IMG_20191128_131609

Plus turkey and rolls 🙂 I won’t lie the turkey was turkey to me because I am usually in it for the sides, but who isn’t?

00100lrPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20191128135019312_COVER

The only thing I felt like we were missing was cranberry sauce. There’s something interesting about cranberry sauce-I didn’t think I would miss it, but while eating this all I could think was “this NEEDS cranberry sauce.”

Later on we made sandwiches with the rolls and leftovers and again I felt like the slight tart/sweetness from cranberry sauce would have taken it up a few notches. I guess we know for next time!

For dessert we had decided on pies and went for a slice of apple and a slice of chocolate mousse-both of which were really good!

IMG_20191128_140832

That concludes our Thanksgiving meal, but I can’t conclude without giving hubby a big shoutout for these pictures! Thank you babe for taking these ❤️

How was your Thanksgiving and what did you guys end up eating? Let me know in the comments!

Birthdays and giving thanks

If you couldn’t tell from my Monday post we have a lot to be thankful for this past year and one thing I am most thankful for is my wonderful husband!

20191026_192035

It is his birthday today and I just want to take a minute to let him know how grateful I am to be his wife. Babe, thank you for being the incredibly kind, generous, and loving person you are. The way you take things in stride and see the brighter side of things-no matter the situation is something I am in awe of.

I know I tell you all the time but you really are the best husband ever and to top it off you are so stinkin’ hot! I love you so much and hope you have the best birthday ever and that this year brings true all your wishes!

Besides birthday wishes I wanted to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. I know I normally do Monday/Thursday posts, but since I’m doing this one today I figured I’d combine the birthday/Thanksgiving. I hope you guys are getting to spend some good quality time with family and eating some delicious food!

I’m not sure if I’m going to be taking pictures of our Thanksgiving, but if I do I will most certainly share that with you!

Happy birthday babe, Happy Thanksgiving my friends, and have a lovely weekend!

Happy Halloween

I absolutely LOVE this time of year! I love the buzz of excitement in the air when it’s holiday season. It’s just so magical-everything from the beginning of October through Christmas just fills me with warm, cozy, festive vibes!

I am super excited about settling down and decorating for this time of year, but until then I am perfectly content with having some sweet treats and lighting my autumnal candle! I am at work so to bring in some festivities I made some fun goodie bags with Annie’s bunny cookies (organic version of animal crackers) and some kettle corn.

How are you guys celebrating Halloween? Let me know in the comments below!

Labor Day Weekend

The only thing I love more than a good relaxing weekend is a good relaxing weekend of good eats!

I actually have some eats from the week mixed in because good food is good food no matter when you eat it. Also, I think my brain is tired so forgive me if I say some off the wall things in this post 🙂

On Tuesday I had this simple breakfast of egg frittata from Trader Joes, a waffle and some blackberries. The egg frittata has been compared to the Starbuck’s sous vide egg bites, but this was not my favorite on it’s own. I did put it in a tortilla later in the week with some cheese and enjoyed it MUCH more that way.

20190827_084231

For dinner that night we had some leftover ground beef so hubby whipped up some burgers and we are still on the carrot fries kick!

20190827_184341

Fast forward to Thursday night our Gobble box arrived. Since we both had work and hubs actually had to work late we made a dish from the box on Friday night: Souvlaki marinated salmon…I’ll do a whole post about this later on this week!

IMG-20190901-WA0001

Saturday morning included workouts and grocery shopping! I was starving and decided to pick up a turkey pesto sandwich from Sprout’s. Sometimes a sandwich and some potato chips just hits the spot and it deffo did…noms! I was only able to eat half the sammie and half the chips before I was full.

20190831_114837

We made an early dinner (linner, really) of the baked eggs in channa masala from Gobble before hubby had to head out to a work thing. I ended up hanging out and binging on all the reality TV on Hulu.

20190831_162944

It was a little past 10:30pm when he was heading home and I was feeling the hungers again and Blaze sounded like a great idea so we picked me up a simple pie. I ate the whole things minus 2 slices. The hubs ate one of those….

20190831_225522

I ate the last slice with some tomatoes the next day (banana for dessert)!

Sunday was our first full day off together so we made the most of it and headed to Santa Monica. I really wanted Sidecar Doughnuts and went for their yeast glazed doughnut. They are just so good! You can’t go wrong with this place.

20190901_144239

We were both pretty tired as we walked around so we decided to grab a snack. I’m normally not an energy drink person, but I just felt like the day called for it. I saw this Alani Nu in Hawaiian shaved ice and felt like it sounded so incredible. The hubs found some gummies.

20190901_152710

The energy drink was DELISH! LOVED IT! The gummies were not great, BUT hubby totally enjoyed them. He loved them so much he bought a few more the next day!

We picked up a few baked goods and headed home to make some burgers (we have a serious problem with burgers).

20190901_192127

Burgers-delicious! Sadly dessert did not go as well…we had stopped by Milk Bar and Alcove. The cookie and birthday cake truffles from Milk Bar were good, but for whatever reason the cakes from Alcove were not.

20190901_193451

Alcove has been our go to cake spot and we were a bit bummed, but what is a girl to do?

The next day we did some more grocery shopping for the week and made our last Gobble dinner. It was a honey harissa shrimp dish!

20190902_181937

We finished up any left over dessert and called it a weekend!

How was your LDW? Let me know in the comments what you guys did!

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Monday and Happy Labor Day!

I love a good long weekend even if I don’t always get to participate (I do this time)! I hope you are all having a great weekend and start to the week. I am working on a couple of posts from this past weekend and those will probably be going up next week 🙂

Until then, enjoy this picture of a lunch I had! And yes, that lovely blob are sardines, and yes they don’t picture great, BUT they sure did make a yummy lettuce wrap 😉

20190826_131732

Enjoy the day and let me know in the comments what you guys got up to!
