What we’ve been up to

Let’s just say we are excited for things to settle down and build a routine and we’ve been working very hard on making that happen.

In terms of food….

In terms of selling the house we’ve made a few repairs and gotten things in order to continue the escrow process. We are ready to be done!

We’ve also been selling things on FB market (thanks for the tip Mackenzie) in order to downsize and live a little more clutter free!

In terms of staying strong and healthy we’ve been working out (basically everyday since I had been waiting to start work). I continue cycling through our gym, the apartment gym, and HIIT at home. We’ve been loving post dinner walks when the weather cools down.

For work-hubs started a while ago and I have completed hospital orientation and I am about to wrap up floor orientation.

What we’ve been doing and eating

It feels nice to be somewhat settled in and writing once again! We have finally moved into San Bernardino County and managed to somewhat organize ourselves and our lives.

Once we got everything situated into where we think we would like it we also started tackling alllllll the address changes with all the people. You guys-someone needs to invent a one stop shop way of doing this! It’s crazy how many people you have to call and how many websites you must visit to change your address.

Throughout all of the craziness we did manage to workout first thing every morning just to help the endorphins start flowing and get us both in a good head space to tackle whatever the day had in store!

During this time the cooking was minimal, but we did go out and get some fruit and snacky veggies (baby carrots).

We’ve also been trying to get a lay of the land through the food that is around us so we’ve had some fails and wins-some I took pictures of and some I did not.

My hubby loved these donuts and I thought they were mediocre…

You guys are going to think I’m nuts, but since moving here I have discovered Denny’s. I’m not crazy, but I am obsessed with their veggie egg white skillet. Only, I get it with poached eggs and it is so freaking good! I wish I had gotten a better picture, but such is life when you’re post-gym hangry ๐Ÿ˜€

I also got these strawberry pancake puppies from there because again #hangry and they smelled and tasted like heaven. I could only manage to eat one, but that one was so good I ate another. I saved the rest and tried them later that night and you guys-still incredible!

Another day’s bagel-I love a good everything bagel with lox and cream cheese. This one had tomatoes, onions, and capers too!

We went to Berries for frozen yogurt. They don’t have too many flavors, but they will take whichever flavor of yogurt you pick and smash/mix in any add-ins. It’s very similar to Marble Slab or Cold Stone, but with frozen yogurt. We picked a vanilla base with strawberries and chocolate chips. Since it was frozen yogurt it got melty pretty fast, but man was it yummy!

We’ve been trying out a local cake place and so far it’s been kind of a hit and miss situation. One we loved and some others not so much…

We went to Waba for a healthier fare and enjoyed our bowls! I was so full after this because I literally inhaled it down-totally worth it!

One particular day we headed back to LA and I had “snacks” in the form of tacos from Tocaya.ย After anything savory I immediately need sweet and so we stopped at Eataly and picked up these adorable treats!

Working out and staying sane

Hello Friends!

The craziness continues to run rampant in our household as we have both finished up our last weeks at work, worked on packing and trying to keep the house clean for showings simultaneously, and move!

I wanted to talk to you guys about what keeps me sane during these crazy times. Besides my amazing husband, family and friends; taking 40 to 60 minutes to workout has helped keep me physically and mentally together.

I think I took for granted exactly what some form of exercising does until our recent TX trip. We didn’t try to find a gym and because of humidity were unable to walk or hike as much as we normally would have.

When we came back and started returning to the gym and home workouts I just felt lighter and in a better head space.

Working out is basically like eating or breathing in our house so we really don’t think about it or what it’s doing for us until we stop.

There are so many benefits to being active- both physical and mental. I don’t talk about it on this blog as much as I do about food, but it brings me just as much happiness.

I always preach that you don’t need to go to a gym and do “exercises” to be healthy. You simply need to be active in whatever way brings you happiness. Dancing, walking, barre, sports-it all gets the blood flowing and the endorphins going. Sooooo if you don’t already I highly encourage you to get some movement into your day!

After all, couldn’t we all use more endorphins? I think so!

Life After NY

We woke up dark and early to catch a Lyft to JFK. Speaking of JFK, what a great airport! I don’t know if it was the time or day of the week that we were there or what, but it was so mellow and there was barely a line-very unLAX.

We grabbed some breakfast and headed to our gate. We could only find Dunkin’ Donuts so I got a egg white veggie sandwich and hash browns and hubs got an everything bagel and cream cheese. I don’t think he was quite ready to let go ๐Ÿ˜€ We also got a strawberry glazed donut with sprinkles to share!

We hopped on the plane and had a really lovely 5 hour trip back to LA. I really enjoyed the snack box they gave us that had Chobani vanilla yogurt, granola, apple slices and this flat blueberry muffin thing. I loved that muffin and wish I could figure out where they sold it!

We arrived in LA at 10:50am (nothing like gaining a few hours back) and had all the intentions of going to the beach, but we were exhausted! We instead went to see if we could get movie tickets to Avengers: Endgame and get Chick-fil-a to eat at the park.

We did both and were very pleased with ourselves. After we arrived at home we unpacked, threw in laundry, showered and who knows what else before heading out to Endgame.

It was a 3 hour movie and holy cow was it the movie of all movies! If you’re an Avengers fan…you’ve probably already seen it!

We went home and grabbed some TBell for babes and In n’ Out for me. We had also planned it out and grabbed cake and a cookie from Susie Cakes!

Friday morning we woke up and headed out to our first gym session since Philly. It felt good to be in the gym! I was so hungry after this session and we came up with a breakfast plan.

Yogurt with granola and honey plus a shared PB and banana sandwich!

We had reserved tickets for The Broad for when we got back from our trip and so we showered up and headed out. The Broad was incredibly cool and saw some really interesting pieces.

I guess neither of us were ready to let go of NY quite yet because we headed to Langer’s for pastrami sandwiches. We shared a sandwich which was great because each half could have been one sandwich.

This was a really great sandwich! It was meaty and vinegary from the kraut and mustard…all the good things!

Having not been to Century City in a minute we headed over to check out some stores and grab a little sweet treat from Shake Shack- their strawberry shake.

After wandering around and finding a skirt we headed off to a free comedy night at a pizza shop we had also been wanting to check out #notreadytoletgoofNY

We shared a pie and enjoyed some comedy! Can you tell how much we really enjoy comedy?

We picked up some cake on the way home, but by the time we got home we were too exhausted to even bother. Sleep really took the cake ๐Ÿ˜‰

Saturday morning was for all the tidying up and touch ups. Since we’re moving, we’re going to be putting our house on sale so we had some decluttering to do before pictures. We spend most of the morning doing this, but before that we had to gather supplies and give ourselves some fuel.

That fuel came in the form of Pascal Patisserie. We got the breakfast burrito (my fave) and the carne asada sandwich (B’s fave). When we got home we had some cake! We finished up our tasks and cleaned up for yet another comedy show…we have a problem…

We were planning on going out for dinner, but neither of us were feeling like it so we picked up some Panang curry from Jasmine Thai. We had our second piece of cake after and called it a night!

Sunday was our last vacay day and we made the most of it by finishing up our stuff and going grocery shopping ๐Ÿ˜€ We also skipped the gym this morning and got breakfast from Pascal. We got a bagel (there’s that NY thing popping up again) and an omelet sandwich.

We also picked up a pistachio croissant and an almond chocolate croissant. We split the pistachio one and saved the almond chocolate.

We went home after this and prepped for the week and finished tidying up. I started getting hungry later into the evening and so we figured we’d better grab dinner.

Which brings me to another thing we did again was pick upย Thai food from another place called Box Thai.

We got dumplings, chicken satay, and an order of pad kee mao. It was SO good! We will definitely be back here for more Thai!

We ate the almond chocolate croissant for dessert and chilled out for the rest of the night! That concludes our vacation-definitely had some vacation blues, but we were both ready to get back to some normal eating!

NY Day 3: The Last Day

Our final day in NY we had planned to stick around Brooklyn, but instead ended up checking out Brooklyn and heading back into the city! We got to do and see some random things which made the trip come full circle for us.

We started this morning by just getting ready and heading out. If you know me, you know that I need a cup of coffee in the morning to kick things off, but I actually did okay. We made it to Ix’s for coffee, stew, and a sandwich.

We could have probably just had the soup and been fine! The soup was so incredible and the flavors in the broth were warm and savory. It was definitely the star here!

After that we headed to Prospect Park and enjoyed the sunshine and walked around. I won’t lie I think after a few days of being on foot and some lingering jet lag we were both really feeling it because we (I) got tired of the park pretty quick and we went on to another adventure.

Brooklyn Heights is something we wanted to check out and it’s a beautiful little stroll by the water! After a short sit to hydrate we decided to take the trek over the Brooklyn Bridge.

I love that the bridge has a place for walkers and bikers so anyone can enjoy the view and enjoy strolling into Manhattan from Brooklyn.

Once there we rewarded ourselves with a hotdog from Nathan’s. Apparently we need to eat after each trek otherwise we’ll wither away ๐Ÿ˜‰

With a bit more energy we went and saw the World Trade Center. I had no idea there was a Westfield mall there, but it was cool to see.

Afterwards we went to find the NY Stock Exchange and on the way I needed a snack…pretty desperately. We found a biryani truck that also sold Kati rolls. We ordered one Kati roll with lamb.

I was expecting one roll when we opened up the package, but instead we got two little ones-even better! These were so good!! It’s meat and sauce and lettuce wrapped in a paratha and made to eat on the go. We just stood there and scarfed it down, but one of my favorite items we had this trip.

After finally arriving at the NY Stock Exchange we took in all the buildings and took a few minutes to just sit on the stairs across from the stock exchange building just to take it all in.

Then we headed to Di Fara’s for a slice of cheese ๐Ÿ™‚

And took a short walk for taiyaki at Taiyaki NYC…this was really good, but Somi Somi will always have my heart โค๏ธ

L’industrie Pizzeria was the last pizza stop of our trip and it was a pretty great one. It was a great slice, but different than a traditional NY slice. The crust was a little flaky and the cheese was lighter despite being topped off with parm before being baked. I really enjoyed it!

We were both so beat that we headed home to pack up some things before heading out to our evening plans at Union Hall. We love comedy and this particular comedy show combined magic and comedy. We didn’t know it when we bought the tickets, but we were more than fine with it and enjoyed the show!

After our Chinese food in Philly I had been wanting to try some in NY and got the chance after the show. Sadly, I don’t remember the place and I wasn’t a fan of the food sooo…it all works out?

By the time we made it home we were ready to crawl into bed and get some shut eye before having an early wake up time for JFK!

NY Day 2: The day of 3 Pizzas

NY day 2 started the similarly to the way day 1 started-coffee and a bagel. This time with a bit of a further walk…I think the place was called Lola’s.

After showering up we headed back to the city for some more exploring! We had some plans on what we wanted to do for the day and our first stop was this NYC institution.

We bought a chocolate chip and a chocolate peanut butter chip and my oh my were these cookies incredible!

After securing our dessert we stopped by a pizza place called Made in New York Pizza.

We walked around exploring the area and found our way to Central Park. If the first day was cold and rainy, the second was sunny and pretty warm. We took off our jackets and found an ice-cream truck!

We walked some more and headed to a subway station to head to another NYC institution-Katz Deli.

Okay, don’t kill me for saying this, but I have to be honest. As a foodie, I am so glad we went! It’s a place I would have always wondered about if we hadn’t gone. As a foodie, I felt a bit let down because the food was just okay? Maybe I missed something!

For our dessert stop we found a Black Tap that was super close and couldn’t resist. This is something that’s been on our list for YEARS and let’s just say it did not disappoint!

We shared this monstrosity and felt like we were 10 years old again! Super giddy on sugar we walked around explored some more. We explored Chinatown and found a million little stores selling the same little touristy trinkets!

It was time for another food stop, another slice of pizza! Prince Street Pizza had a line that went quickly and a slice that was worth the wait. We devoured this slice and walked some more contemplating our evening plans.

We found ourselves in Washington Square Park and sat down as it started sprinkling down some rain.

We were torn between a few things and finally decided on some live music. We were not disappointed by any means! This band played R&B and hiphop and man were they good! We had so much fun singing and swaying to the music…

Right next door there was an Artichoke Pizza-we honestly could have shared one slice because these slices were HUGE. I don’t think the picture does it any justice!

We headed back home and slept hard!

NY Day 1: The day of 3 Bagels

Our first morning in Brooklyn, we woke up and went for a short stroll for a coffee and some breakfast. We found PLG Coffeehouse and had our own coffees and split an everything bagel with cream cheese.

We hurried back home to shower and head out for the day! We took the subway into Manhattan and explored Grand Central Station.

Immediately after we had to stop for another bagel at Ess-a-Bagel. There was a pretty hefty line, but we finally made it to the front and ordered an Everything Bagel with lox, cream cheese with chives, capers, tomatoes, and even some lettuce.

We knew we’d want something sweet to have post bagel so we also decided to get a black and white cookie.

The bagel was so, so good! It’s one of my favorite bagels of the trip and the cookie was so soft and cakey! I normally am not a cakey cookie person, but it worked so well here…I devoured every last bite!

As we were heading out we noticed that it was downright pouring outside and let me tell you we were not prepared, but we also did not care one bit! We love being anywhere downtown in the rain…there’s something romantic and magical about it (blame rom-coms)!

We had some sights we wanted to see in the area we were in so we started our journey and stopped a few times to take some pictures. There are so many incredible buildings and doors in NYC!

Our next stop was the NY Public Library and again such gorgeous doors and ceilings! I may have already been a little door obsessed and being in NY made it worse ๐Ÿ™‚

Right around from the library was Bryant Park where everything looked so green…

We walked from there to the Empire State Building

From ESB to ANOTHER bagel shop (our 3rd)! Best Bagel and Coffee had everything seasoning on the top and bottom of the bagel…we shared another bagel with lox and all the fixings.

We had stopped by a Lindt shop on our way and picked up some truffles and we had a couple for dessert post bagel.

We headed out to find the High Line and found these tulips on the way. Besides doors, NYC is filled with so many tulips!

The High Line stretched on forever and we walked basically all of it, admiring the new apartments and taking in murals.

We hopped off eventually and headed to Chelsea Market where I smelled the most incredible candles (and yes, nearly cried), but sadly we had barely any space in our luggage so I couldn’t get any. A blessing and a curse.

At Chelsea Market we found a taco shop that we wanted to check out anyway and got a carne asada and a chicken taco to share.

Our dessert stop was at City Cakes where we got 3 cookies. A chocolate chip walnut, white chocolate mac, and a snickerdoodle I believe? These are hefty half pound cookies!

We walked off our food by heading to Times Square and walking around! We had seen some of it during the day when we arrived, but it was just incredible to be there IRL at night.

After all the bagels we wanted to have at least one slice of ‘za before our day of eating ended so we had a $1 slice…it felt wrong to not have at least one slice of pizza!

We had some plans for the night-a comedy improv show at Upright Citizens Brigade in Hell’s Kitchen. We made it there and were so happy to finally sit for a bit after all the walking!

The show was great and even though we had thought about grabbing food after-our bellies were full and our feet were exhausted. We found the fastest metro route home and made it home to finally chill the heck out!

Long Weekend Recap

I love a good long weekend…who doesn’t? We took full advantage of this one and did (and ate quite a bit). Go ahead and settle in for what may end up being a long post!

Friday we ended up making some dinner at home. I don’t like to waste things and we had some potato buns that needed to be used up so we got some Boar’s Head pastrami and made sammies.

We also tried a couple of more slices of cake from Susie Cakes-one was raspberry and the other was red velvet. I loved the red velvet whereas the hubs preferred the denser raspberry.

Saturday, we started out with a workout, breakfast snack and then a hike. The hike ended up being somewhat of a fail because we were hoping for ocean views and super blooms, but instead got very hot and a few creeks. It’s not a complete fail because any activity is good activity ๐Ÿ™‚

We made it home for showers and naps before heading out to Magicopolis for a magic show. It was from 8 to 10pm and ended up being hilarious and magical!

After much pondering we decided to try Cheesecake Factory out again for late night dinner.

We started with their bread (noms) and Asian lettuce wraps (double noms)

And we had to get dessert so we got their chocolate truffle tower cake. This was pretty fantastic. Our server said this was the “lightest” of the 3 chocolate cakes they offer. I was happy with our choice of the chocolate tower ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday morning included a workout and a fun little brunch at Claudine Kitchen and Bakeshop. This time I got a salmon sandwich and the hubs got a create your own omelette.

We had ordered their special cookie butter coffee cake of the day, but they ended up refunding us because they were out ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Luckily for us, it was a warm day and we thought aรงaรญ bowls sounded pretty tasty. We found Ubatuba Acai at a different location that you can have as many toppings as you want!

They also had a lot of different bases like chia pudding, aรงaรญ, pitaya, etc. We ended up ordering one to share and got aรงaรญ, chia pudding, and pitaya. I believe we topped it with sweet and condensed milk, honey, mangoes, and two types of granola.

It was refreshing, sweet, and oh so tasty!

We ran some errands and then headed to a couple’s massage. Hubs had gotten this Groupon a while ago and we never had a chance to use it, but nothing gets us more motivated to use something other then it being close to expiring. Anybody else?ย I have never had a massage (crazy! I know) and so I was a tad nervous, but it ended up being a really great experience.

Sunday night means burgers so that is what we had for dinner and we used up all our potato buns so yay for no waste!

After Claudine’s we had walked around and found Sweet Lady Jane Bakery so we stopped in and saw so many delicious sweets. We picked up a slice of triple berry for dessert later and ended up having it after dinner!

This caps our weekend! We definitely had a lot of cake this weekend, but recently it’s been our go-to dessert ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for reading!

Philadelphia Day 4

Good morning, afternoon, night whatever it might be!

It’s Saturday afternoon here in Philly as I’m writing this and we just got done with lunch, but to catch you guys up I haven’t done too much today ๐Ÿ™‚

We started off with our usual Starbucks. I still haven’t drank the green juice by the way, but always need all the beverages!

We opted to work out later in the day when hubby gets done with his conference instead of waking up early. We were needing some sleeping in-we were feeling rough!

He went to conference and I decided to catch up on reading blog posts and editing some of my own. I got restless like I tend to do and did a HIIT session in the room. I thought I would be good with using my own bodyweight for some exercises, but I think having used weights and resistance bands for so long-I definitely missed them.

Still got the heart rate up and fantastically sweaty! I cleaned up and realized I was feeling hungry. Remember that salad we ordered with our dinner last night? The spinach one? We took a couple of bites last night and brought the rest home. Excellent for me because I had a lovely nutrient dense snack.

There was SO much spinach packed into this and I was so hungry I scarfed most of it down before stopping to think about taking a picture. Sorry about the half eaten mess you get to see!

Mid eating the spinach salad hubs texted asking if I would like to grab lunch! Heck yeah I would! Not gonna lie, I was mostly just ready to see him and hang out.

We went to Hershel’s Deli which is in Reading Terminal Market which is a few steps away from our hotel ๐Ÿ˜€

We got a corned beef reuben and a pastrami sandwich. It came with pickles on the side and we got a diet Dr. Browns cream soda to drink. We couldn’t find seating anywhere so in order to eat and get hubby back as quickly as possible we ate in our hotel room.

That worked out pretty well since we had some jalapeรฑo kettle chips ready for sandwiches in our room.

YOU GUYS! These sandwiches were so incredible! I preferred the corned beef and hubby loved the pastrami. I could only get through my half of the corned beef so we still have a pastrami half in our fridge. I have a feeling we will be munching on that post workout ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also, I have never had any Dr. Browns, but this diet cream soda was very sweet and very delicious! I need to find this on Amazon or something.

I’m going to get back to my Love It or List It on HGTV until our workout!

We ended up working out and heading back to our room for a shower and packing session. We head to NY tomorrow (Sunday) so our plan is to do some laundry here and pack up our things tonight so we can have a pleasant train ride over to the Big Apple.

We went to dinner with one of B’s coworkers and her hubby plus a couple of other friends of theirs. We went to a cool little Chinese spot that was recommended by one of the friends who lives in Philly.

I got absolutely no pictures, but the food was incredibly delicious and I enjoyed every bite-we got cumin lamb, mapo tofu (which I had been wanting to try), sesame noodles, a spicy chicken dish, and I can’t remember anything else, but there was a LOT of food!

We walked back to our hotel with everyone and then decided we needed something sweet. B and I decided to check out Mango Mango which was in the same area as the Chinese spot so we walked back!

We were seated immediately and I ordered a mango crepe cake and B ordered a mango strawberry sundae which had so many delicious things like mango and lychee. We walked back home to wrap up laundry and head to bed!

We were up pretty late so needless to say we were pretty exhausted the next morning. I’ll save our NY trip for another post! I’m hoping to get it written and up soon so bear with me till then!

Philadelphia Day 3

I’m only writing this by itself because my last Philly post seemed like it went on forever!

We started this morning off with workout and then Starbucks. I’m pretty sure I was only half functioning till then anyways! I needed all the beverages-green juice, coffee and unseen water.

Post breakfast B showered and headed to his conference. After he left I showered and then proceeded to catch up on emails and life while watching HGTV.

I looked up some Philly cheesesteak spots in the area and even watched a YouTube video about them.

The universe must have lined up because when B came back for lunch break he announced that one of his fellow peeps had suggested a cheesesteak spot. I had not heard of this one, but was excited to try it regardless!

With a name like Ishkabibble’s you don’t know what to expect, but after a 30 minute walk we were greeted with some pretty delicious smells.

Hubs and I shared a cheesesteak with whiz and onions. We also got two tossed salads. I am not an iceberg fan, but I needed some green in my life! I did not get a pic, but it was iceberg, carrots, tomatoes and onion with Italian dressing.

It was a delicious cheesesteak. All the cheese whiz and onions melted into the steak…this is what the cheesesteak guy on YouTube must have been talking about.

I never thought I would be a cheesewhiz fan, but I am a true believer in trying anything once (sometimes twice-just to be sure ๐Ÿ˜… ) and trying it the way it was intended before branching out.

I’m still not sure I would eat cheese whiz on the regs, but this is one way I would eat it again without batting an eye.

We walked back to the hotel so hubs and friends could head back to the conference. I dropped by the hotel and headed back out to explore more of thd area.

I won’t lie after 20 minutes I was hot and uncomfortable so I headed back. Lucky for me I saw this gorgeous mural and took a pic that does it absolutely no justice.

Post mural walking I hung out in the lobby writing this post. When B got done there was a little mingling event that we went to. It was starting to sprinkle outside so lucky for us the event was in the hotel!

After chatting it up we needed to eat! We headed out to Cleavers and the rain started coming down. Lucky for us the walk was a “short” 15 minutes, the rain made it feel longer. Honestly, we were just happy it wasn’t cold and raining. By the time we got there we were giddy and ready for food!

They have cheesesteaks, salads, fries, and dessert so obviously we had to get one of each ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hubby ordered their meaty 1lb cheesesteak, spinach salad, garlic parmesan waffle fries, and a chocolate cake. I could not even finish that cheesesteak and I took out half the meat! The fries were garlicky and delicious, the salad spinachy and refreshing, and the cake was moist and chocolatey mmmm…

We walked back to the hotel and popped into a couple of stores on the way to browse around, but thankfully the rain had calmed down to a sprinkle.

We watched some basketball games that were on while getting ready for bed. We stayed up until I simply couldn’t keep my eyes open for another second and that my friends concludes day 3!
