The time we went to Kansas City, Missouri

A few weeks ago hubs had a conference he needed to go to so I tagged along and we made it a little adventure 🙂

We had to be on the plane by 7am so we woke up before the sun was even shining to make it on the plane. This meant I had time for coffee, but no food. Don’t worry friends before I could get hangry our plane landed in Denver and we had enough time to grab some breakfast.

This is where I had my first Einstein Bros bagel. I ordered an everything bagel with lox but got a plain bagel instead. I was a bit devastated, but I will say it was still pretty yummy! Bae had some greek yogurt with berries…

We got back on the plane and headed to our final destination-Kansas City, Missouri. It was hot and a little humid when we got off the plane, but we decided to check in to our hotel and find some lunch.

We went to this little market close to the hotel and the hub and I shared a couple of sandwiches. We got a spicy turkey of some sort and I think the reuben.

Both were yummy, but we both liked the turkey the best!

After this it was time for some conference stuff so we split up and I went to the hotel to get us kind of unpacked and organized for the weekend. I also had a chance to chill, hydrate, and freshen up for the night!

We had started asking everybody we saw including our Uber and Lyft drivers what their favorite bbq spot was. We got a few different answers, but a lot of it was between Gates’s, Q39, Joe’s, and Jack Stack. We knew there was no way we were going to be able to eat that much bbq in the 3 short days we were there, but we all decided to give it our all.

In that spirit we made Gate’s our first BBQ stop.

We were hungry and the employees at Gate’s got us super excited and we got the presidential platter which may have been a mistake.

It’s SO. MUCH. FOOD. Definitely, way too much food to split between 5 people-you need at least 10. It came with turkey, chicken, brisket, ribs, sausage and we got beans, coleslaw, and bread too.

I think the beef sausage was our favorite that night…it had a really great spice that I really enjoyed!

It was all delicious and so we ate and ate and I don’t think we even made a dent in that platter. We did we could and packed up the rest and gave it out to whoever was in need of some bbq!

We ended up at Insomnia Cookie for dessert and it was pretty spectacular. We shared an ice-cream sandwich. We paired a white chocolate macadamia cookie and a chocolate chunk cookie along with birthday cake ice-cream to make a sweet, melty treat!

We took a short walk around to check out the night life and stayed up well past any of our bedtimes. I think the hubs and I were in bed by 2am and we woke up around 6am the next day to workout, but that’s a story for next time 🙂

See you then!

Hahaha I would have been devastated about not getting an Everything bagel too!! It still looks awesome though, I’ve never tried Einstein Bagels! But I am crying about that Insomnia Cookiewich, I dream about those all the time still– we used to get ’em after dinner so often when we lived in MN. 😭
